Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

Guys, seems you recommend KDL42W653 over the w805 for gaming. Lack of 3d kind of sucks but the price is very welcome.

Anyway, as I would like something larger then 42'', I stumbled upon this tv - 50W656A

Do You guys know if this is 1:1 the same tv just larger or should I be cautious? Also can't find the input lag, and a page ago the smaller than 42'' one had a way worse one.

Thanks in advance for help.

It's not a real 120hz set. 120 is the "effective refresh rate" which mean truly it's about half. I heard that their "240 Hz" set is a true 120hz.
Don't understand this, so even though the specs say its 120hz....its actually not?
I have to buy the 240hz Vizio to get a true 120hz? What?......that is weird

Its marketing. They make sure to slide "effective" in there to cover there asses but it's just interpolation. There was a chart online that had all the big HDTV makers and there gimmicky refresh rate tech names and the true rate but in on the iPhone right now. If refresh rate is your sticking point though I think LG is pretty good with true refresh rates.

I currently have the Panasonic Viera GT20 and I'm looking for a newer TV. It's for next gen.. any suggestions?

Requirements:
- 42"
- minimum 2 HDM inputs
- price: €600-700

I was looking at the : SONY KDL-42W655

I spent the whole day researching what TV to get (got a semi-headache), and narrowed it down to 3 TVs:
aHVEM62.png

All 3 are the same price and should come out to be around $600 and input lag of 26-28ms

So what to get?

How much was it going for?

Probably $10,000

He probably saw it without proper lighting, even the Best Buy Magnolia centers don't have proper lighting inside to offset the allure of torch mode. A LCD is going to look nice and vibrant in a store. OLED has the same benefit and is very vibrant, even in a store unlike Plasma, so of course it will look better.

Damn, I can't notice any lag AT ALL on my W655 (32"). It's supposedly 30ms, while the 42' hits only 15ms. But it works wonderfully for me. Also, PQ is stellar, I see no BB at all, great colors, contrast, etc. I'm very happy with my purchase. Playing Resogun on it is awesome.

Probably input lag since I will be primary be gaming on it.

I wish the Sony KDL-55W900A wasn't so damn expensive. IT NEEDS TO GO ON SALE lol
Lol that's the tv I was gonna recommend.

Here is a Sony(actually has better input lag than the 900A) that's about half the price.

http://store.sony.com/47-diag-w802a...id27-KDL47W802A/cat-27-catid-All-W-Series-TVs

They also have a 55inch for 15. I think these 3 Sony's are the best compromise between Input lag and PQ.

What's your price range If you don't mind me asking?

I'm not able to go above more than $500, and I don't need a 60" (though I'd like to have one), I know there's not much to go on with this TV, but what do you guys think?

I had seen a slightly bigger TV for $50 more on Best Buy's "Door Buster" deals, but I'd rather not get into that sort of mess with dealing with tickets to get the product.

This is a slightly smaller model being sold right now for $449, and I've looked at it in store (the box anyhow). It seems good, but I'd like an opinion or two from somebody in the know.

The only downside is that there are only two HDMI ports, no composite cables (I'll have to get that Wii HDMI adapter I guess :/ )

My Samsung 46A650 decided to die today, right after I bought a PS4/XBone/Wii U. Need to get another TV ASAP.

I'm about to do research on the differences between Sony w802 and w900. Any other TVs I should consider? First priority is gaming, second is movies.

About to start my extensive research, but any and all help would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Also, does anyone know if wall mounts have changed or should I be able to attach my current mount to these new TVs?

man, still no major price drops for the sets i want. i guess i'll just go for it if nothing drops this week or on Cyber Monday.

Perhaps you should wait till after CES, around superbowl time. New models will be launched/announced and the first round of cuts should start happening to the 2013 models. TVs are probably cheapest around superbowl time.

Maybe people who've actually experienced both sets can better comment but aound the internet, the general consensus is that the w900A is not worth the price difference over the W802.

The 802 has slightly less lag, but the 900 was far better picture. The 900 all around seems like one of the best bets if 55" is the size you want.

Whats the best 42" for the moment? Since the W802 is a bit over my budget :p

Edit: just checked a webstore and they have the SONY KDL-42W805 for €949. Thoughts?

Looking to get a 50" plasma during the upcoming black friday specials. What is the best thing I can get for under $1200 (list price) at that size? I hear the Panasonic ST60 50" is good. Any other suggestions?

I'd be interested to hear your feedback (have my eye on that set but also like my HX803). It may be simply because it's a 50/60Hz set with no motionflow, but hopefully not.

Well, I watched a film and booted up a spot of Far Cry 3 on the PC last night and was really, really impressed with what I saw. Where as I’d just spent most of Saturday setting it up and calibrating so hadn’t really got a feel for any actual viewing content.

FC3 looked absolutely spectacular, much nicer than even my previous full-array local-dimming LED or plasma before that. Noticed no problems whatsoever with motion during actual viewing content, looked at least as acceptable as any LCD I’ve seen in that respect. Low input lag was immediately apparent too, felt great and very snappy.

So yeah, I’m more than happy with enough with it now. Definitely a fantastic gaming display.

I want a Panny Plasma and I think it might actually sell out or go up in price cuz they're not making anymore.

But I'm keeping my options open for a LED set if that happens to drop dramatically in price. Hoping that Sony set that everyone loves here drops in price as well.

great looking set. pretty high input lag though. the s60 is supposed to be great too. less smart tv extras and glare/reflective screen though. a few hundred cheaper though. i just bought a 60" for 1150

Yea ST60 is supposed to be the absolute worst for gaming. Better off getting a S60 instead. That one has better input lag from what others have said here.

Amazon.de sells W650 and W655. An import, then?

W650 is the best for gaming right? Both input lag and response rate (read: no blurry ghosting mess).

I know that in the UK this model is called W653A, and here in Brazil it's branded as W655A.

I just bought one (42W655A), it should arrive here tomorrow, I'm really looking foward to play my games on it.

Will be converting my actual LCD TV, a LG 32LD650, as my new PC monitor. :D

bruceleeroy (iirc) swares by his st60. i'd imagine it has more to do with the type of games you are playing, at what level, and of course, personal preference.

I dunno, Displaylag posts it as having a Bad rating as well, iirc. I play action games so it's definitely a thing I worry about.

Split between 22 or 32 inch tv that will double as my monitor. 22 is a little too small and 32 is a bit too big to sit 4 feet away from it... Any opinions?

Ow, will keep an eye on that one. Thanks.

Edit:
Whats the difference between the SONY KDL-42W655 and SONY KDL-42W653?

I couldnt buy the deal on Amazon since it didnt support my creditcard :<

In the UK w653 has a black bezel and W654 has a silver bezel. I don't know what the same models are in other countries sorry. By the way, i've found the TV to be great for what i wanted. Spot on.

Hey guys,
Just wanted to say I bought a TC-P55ST60 last month. The PQ has noticeably improved over the past month (using CNET settings), and it is rather stunning. Have been playing Killzone SF and Battlefield 4 online. Honestly, the input lag is not something I see at all or has noticeably impacted my performance in shooters.

Many people forget that there is a really small percentage of people with newer TV's with low input lag. Maybe 5% of the people out there are going to have an actual competitive advantage. If you are not sensitive to input lag, and don't play fighters competitively, don't hesitate to buy this set. I compared it to the w900a (side by side) for a good hour on three separate visits, and the PQ, black levels, black detail, motion detail and colour representation is frankly in another class on the ST60.

3D is also great, Pacific Rim blew me away, and goes to show that the transfer is just as important as the set for reducing cross talk. Anyway, just want to reassure those that want this set, to go ahead and buy if you game, but also love movies and shows and maybe the occasional 3D content. There is a very vocal minority of people who way overblow the effect of the input lag. Great that you can notice something that is less than 1/3 of the time it takes to blink, but if that takes away from your enjoyment so much that you have to pass over this set, then it is definitely your loss. These people almost stopped me from getting this set, and I'm glad I listened to myself and my own feelings. This is again only meant to reassure those on the fence about this set, not criticise anyone.

I am about to pick up the w900a. Most of what I read has been positive. Some people on AVS forums have been saying that they have been seeing ghosting during gaming. Anyone with this TV, how is it for gaming, sports, and blu ray viewing? Have you noticed ghosting?

Is this Samsung 55" F7100 a good deal for $1297.99? I believe that's the BF price.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BCGROFU/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I have this tv.... goona list the tvs I have owned before it:

Sony 52HX909 local dimming Led
Pioneer Elite Pro 110, 111 and 1150
Sony XBR 910
LG 15 inch OLED

ugh and a slew of other tv's and monitors.

Anyway that Samsung 55 F7100 is AMAZING for gaming. I label the HDMI input PC, then it runs in 4:4:4 Chroma correctly and has 39 ms of input lag which is less then any of my Pioneer Elite plasma's had.

The uniformity on the 55 F7100 is excellent, uniformity when panning left to right or up and down is the best I have seen on ANY LED tv and all of my Pioneer Elites had DSE and this Samsung does not!!

I highly recommend it, I paid $1699 for it but went in to Best Buy yesterday and they credit me the difference with this new sale, real nice of them to do that!

Anyway here are my settings for the F7100 55 inch in PC mode :

Standard Mode (entertain should be avoided at all costs)

backlight 7
contrast 90
brightness 45
Sharpness 50 ( 50 has no sharpening to it! no ringing, perfect)
Warm 2
HDMI Black level normal ( seems if you feed it rgb limited you need to set it to normal)
All other "enhancements" are turned off.

Edit: Oh! The 55 F7100 samsung has a panel made by samsung, not all samsungs have that and yes it makes a difference! Also there is no grid pattern on the images that the previous samsung tvs had, I believe hdtvtest.uk goes more in depth about that. Basically the image in pc mode is just like a monitor, very clear!!

Well, you are quite convincing. I'll put it back in my cart in Amazon.

I found a brand new 47W802A on Craigslist for $720. I also found a 55W900A for $1,500, used for a few hours (guy says it's too big, no such thing IMO). I'm not sure the extra size and Triluminos display are worth an extra $800, but they could be.

What would you guys do? The $720 47W802A (possibly slightly negotiable) seems too good to pass up.

That is just wrong. In a light controlled environment reviews have indicated that the ST60 and the w900a are almost a toss-up in terms of picture quality. Add some ambient light and the superior brightness of the w900a will start giving it the advantage (and the brighter the room the bigger the advantage will be).

The ST is a better picture quality value but it isn't even close to being "in another class" in absolute terms.

Me personally, I'm going for most likely the 55W900A. But I won't get home till March so it's still kinda up in the air. Maybe there will be something in the 2014 line that catches my eye?

will say my first choice was to go for a nice plasma, but I have a 70lb shipping limit so it doesn't look like that'll happen. I say if you have the money go bigger but if it's any kind of stretch on your wallet then grab the 47in. I don't think the PQ step up is worth the extra money on its own, but I'd pay more for size.

Just got done playing through Metal Gear Rising on my ST60 for the first time. I was parrying like a boss on the last boss, couldn't notice a hint of lag. You just have to turn all the processing stuff off on the ST:

Game Mode = On
Both noise reduction options = Off
Ambient Sensor = Off
Pixel Direct = Off
Motion Smoother = Off (think Game Mode turns this off anyway)
Overscan = Off
Pixel Orbiter = Auto

You can't be serious.

I managed to pick up the last 50" S60 in the country. Stoked. Done the 100 hrs prep slides and D-Nice calibration settings, looks really good compared to my previous set, not much different to the Cinema preset, I might just have untrained eyes though?
