Just got the Sony Bravia X850D. Ordered the 55 in from bestbuy.com since stores don't have it in stock yet.

Picture quality is absolutely incredible and the display has almost zero light bleed after thorough inspection. Android TV is really nice and the turn on TV by Chromecasting to it is sick. You can tell it has a slower CPU than my Shield Android TV though. Its still way better than my Samsung TV's OS and now I can move my Shield TV to that room. The only other con is Sony added some bloat but I can disable that in the Android settings.

Overall I am very happy with the picture and its great to finally have a TV that doesnt need 3rd party streaming devices hanging off it.

Edit: Has anyone tried the playstation on demand service built into these tvs? Is it ps3 games?

I decided to hold fire on my 4K tv purchase for now. The hilarious thing is the TV I wanted is now back in stock after months of no availability, but I want to see what this years TV's all offer.

I want to get at least a 65 inch 4K TV so happy to wait a few more months to see what features will be added.

But, I decided my TV is so old, anything I get is going to be a massive improvement. Who cares if something better comes along in a couple of months. Ooooh nice! Still holding out hope for the 930D. Some recent impressions have been positive compared to the early ones. Otherwise, I'll be looking at the KS8500 next.

I am talking about the Bourne Trilogy, Lords of the Rings extended edition and I tried out Fellowship of the Ring disc, Hulk(Eric Bana) Transformers 2. None of them seem to be without the film grain filter, but the odd thing is when I use Netflix I truly never have grain with shows and movies. So this is a Blu Ray.... thing then?

Speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if Netflix DNR's it out of existence so they can squeeze the bitrate down. Film grain doesn't compress gracefully.

I have the 9000 which is essentially the same panel. It's an amazing tv. You're in for a treat. I came from a pioneer kuro and while the blacks aren't quite as good, everything else is a huge step up. Love the TV.

Yeah I was afraid of that. It looks like I'm going to have to wait until the "next" 980ti.

So you mean the normal noise reduction or also or only Mpeg noise reduction? The first one does seem to help but if you go any higher I can really notice a weird screen smear effect.

Yeah I have the normal noise reduction on "low" for blu-ray movies. Everything else turned off. And for games everything turned off.

Yeah Amazon is the best. My OLED was supposed to come pristine in original packaging (open box from Warehouse Deals) but not only was the original box missing, but it had a dent on the side of the panel. I was scared to turn it on, but it didn't have any impact on the screen or image.

They wound up offering to have me ship it back or knock 10% off the price. I didn't want to ship it back even at their cost, as the tv is lovely otherwise. I was already getting a good deal on the open box, the extra made it a steal.

What settings are you on?

An overly sharpened image can make grain look worse than it actually is.

After looking at the curved, it is hard to look at the large flat screens. Especially if they are next to each other. The flat ones, just look, flat, lol. Where curved actually looks like it has depth. Your eyes are naturally curved, so it makes sense I suppose.

But at first I was not a fan of curved, but after several in-store looks, it feels more natural, and the peripheral vision is so much better, especially in FPS games. So I am either getting the 55" 9100, or the 55" 9500 4K. One of the reps in BBY said he would hook me up towards the end of this month if I waited, with an 'open box' for the 9500, also got a 2x rewards points coupon in an email the next day that expires 3/31, so perfect timing. And a ton of points.

Trust me, do not look at the 4K. The 1080p is glorious, and I may just settle with that one. But the 4K due to the pixel density is insane, almost like the AMOLED in the S6/7. And the 1080p on it still looks practically native (would be very hard to tell unless both were next to each other, and even then pixel density would play a role). I was stunned.

And you are right, probably why I liked the OLED curved more than the Samsung ones, was due to it being more subtle and not 'too much'. Also it works in the corner where it is going on the stand that is currently there, as well as the aesthetics flow of the room.

The only other players announced are from Panasonic and Phillips. Panasonic is launching in Europe first around April but no announcement yet for the US. The Phillips model is expected around late May or June.

A French site is listing Creed with a 5/18 release there so expect it in the US around that time or maybe a little sooner.

Simply coming to post that i finally jump on a Sony Bravia R550c, and jesus, i just return it one day later. I havent seen a tv degrade over its viewing angle that much in my life. When u stick in front of it, its amazing, but the second your like 15 degree of center, the colors, brightness,fade.

Im still not sold on LED tv, never tough this would that much of a problem. My old LG LCD never lost any color or clarity when moving from an angle. Perhaps they are better LED, but i guesss ill wait for this generation of TV to get better. Its sure does an amazing job when standing right in front of it for games, but im so dissapointed for what it did to movies. I just dont understand why my 2008 model tv does a better job for brightness, blacks, viewing angle. I tough it wouldnt be an issue, knowong i was doing an upgrade. Hum, was wrong.

I just expect to be blowned away, even by an average. I was. When standing in front, it was so damn bright, and games were looking really nice, but start to make adjustment for movies and high def cable tv, was never on spot with my old LG lcd.

Cant wait then to see Samsung and Sony jumping in. But i guess ill be more patient.

Yeah, pretty much nailed it where you ultimately have to see for yourself. I am also going into it with the train of thought, that I have not picked up a new TV since my Phillips 1080p stopped turning on 4 years ago, and I did not want to spend the money to replace the inverter board, only to have it happen again (I guess common on them).

So being out of the TV market and content with monitor gaming, all the new products look great to me, lol.

If I can get BBY to budge on the price to match online, I will get the LG there. If not, the Slick Deals postings all the time are too sweet to pass up ordering online. And I can still get a nice full coverage, no deductible and transferable warranty for just as cheap as BBY.

I'm torn between waiting for the EF9500 LG OLED (still not available in my country) or buying now the Samsung JS9500. The Curved LG EG9600 is available but I read it doesn't support HDMI 2.0A and cannot be upgraded.

It's hard to say really. I am biased and will always say OLED instead of settling for LED. The best flagship LED can't compete with even the worst OLED in terms of image quality.

I'm looking for only 1080p as 4k is expensive and not yet ready for market.I'm from India and not everything which is mentioned in rtings.com are available here we have very limited models and at times some companies dump there models here.Gaming on PS4 and with PC with GTX 970.I'm still 1.5 month away from my purchase as I'm waiting LG to launch there 2016 lineups unfortunately most companies have jumped on 4K so hardly 2-3 1080p models, sony even re-hashed there 2015 models for 2016

I have been looking to purchase LED somewhere between 43-50' , I did a research on several TV's and found below, can you guys suggest.

1. Sony

- Great Picture and Sound in 2015-16 models
- Low input Lag and Motion Blur
- Most Expensive
- Android is still WIP

2. LG

- Best OS (But does it actually matters ?)
- Quality Picture match-able to Sony
- Great Performance vs Cost
- High Input Lag
- Heard stories of TV failing after 2-3 years

3. Samsung

- Good Picture
- Input Lag average
- Input models available

4. Panasonic

- Great Picture
- Support is iffy
- Cheaper

I don't see how Android TV is work in progress. Sony did a bad job porting Android TV to their Bravia line in the beginning but I can tell you now that they have definitively improved. I have one of the brand new 2016 Sony's and a Shield Android TV and the Android OS has been great. The fact that it has the playstore and built in Chromecast puts the Android OS far past the others. It also has voice dictation that is far beyond anything you will see from the competition as well. Keep in mind you are getting google's database with Android TV when you are voice searching.

The Android ecosystem is huge and it takes very little effort to get an existing Android phone app to run on Android TV. Also, Android TV apps are written in Java which is better suited for higher performing apps/games unlike the web technologies used for Tizen/WebOS apps. It will have way more app growth than the others because of this.
