PSVR might replace my TV if the lag is low enough, lol. Plus it's a cheap option to get into OLED.
It is claiming <18ms.

Looks like people on avsforum are receiving their G8. Excited to hear about their experiences.

Wowzers
Too bad the TV isn't very good outside of that. Now if only other TV manufacturers could get with this. IF ONLY
It looks like it got a pretty decent review?
I don't think it's a bad buy if you game on it most of the time.
I am thinking of just going with the 1080p 64" D series version. Just waiting for their review to confirm the same low input lag. I mainly game and watch cable and don't see those taking advantage of 4K anytime soon.
edit- I should say console game.
There's a 1080 version coming?
It is already out
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01A0LGUOI/
In the rtings review in the questions it says
The D series also includes 1080p models. How do those compare to last year's E models?
We will post a review of the 1080p D Series separately, in a few weeks.
Good aussie carDidn't know AVS had a forum dedicated to cars... The Pontiac G8 was a pretty dope car

Debating between to television brands, to replace my Toshiba with(probably the first TV on the market with local dimming) with either Sony 55" 2015 900c or Vizio M series 50", I'm leaning towards the Sony because of its upscaling capabilities. Just bummed it doesn't have local dimming, I can survive the light bleed. Anyone have either model, and would like to share their opinion?
I'm really eyeing an OLED tv eventually, but I have a question: has any company discussed a tv with adaptive/free/g sync? As a living room PC gamer it might be my most dreamed about feature.
Total pipe dream at this point?
Kenny Powers' advice
I guess it depends what content you consume most. The Sony has IPS screen vs VA for Vizio. The Sony has much better video processing for streaming content. The local dimming on the Vizio isn't implemented that well. The Sony has wide-gamut which makes it slightly more future proof and truly more of a 4k set. 4k sets without wide-gamut sort of negates 50% of the reason to upgrade to 4k in the first place. The Vizio has lower lag, but both are suitably low for gaming.
To be honest though, these sets aren't really in the same league/price-point. You'll def get more for the Sony if you decide to sell it down the road.
I'd personally choose the Sony.
Thanks, yeah definitely going to Sony. Will be my first after a Samsung, and three Toshiba's. The last one, a fuse blew and I fixed it, so it can go to another room.

I would get a Sony 4K TV, but not an IPS-based. The native contrast in that will be very low. Find a VA-based Sony.
I read that, if I had a higher budget, a Samsung would be in the cards. The wife wants a new sofa in the living room and TV stand with better storage.
http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/uh8500As an interesting note, the 55" shares a panel very similar to the 2016 LG 55UH8500 that we reviewed a few weeks ago. The response time measurements are almost the same, as well as the contrast ratio (around 1200:1, which is very good for an IPS).
The Android ecosystem is huge and it takes very little effort to get an existing Android phone app to run on Android TV. Also, Android TV apps are written in Java which is better suited for higher performing apps/games unlike the web technologies used for Tizen/WebOS apps. It will have way more app growth than the others because of this.
Here are some pics from my Bravia X850D 55 inch which I just picked up on Bestbuy.com on sale for 1,600. The picture is stunning.

IPS has come a long way on TV's with black levels. While they are not as deep as VA, it is not crazy discernable like they used to be if you have one sitting in your house, not next to VA panels in the store, lol.
I was actually impressed with the Sony 830c IPS models in Best Buy with the screen gloss, etc. Blacks looked plenty satisfactory, again, brighter lighting obviously. But you are not going to be measuring black levels with tools at home like review sites.
They are not all greyed and washed out like hyperbole videophiles shout about, lol.
Yeah, I gotta agree here. Not all IPS panels are created equal too. Truth be told, I'd take a Sony IPS over a Sony VA (and I have a Sony VA).
I do actually measure black levels at home with a colorimeter and the only way to get the deep blacks that are often recorded in review sites (not all, mind you) is to use a contrast enhancer which typically gives you an inaccurate image. I'd trade a slightly higher black level (which is only really noticeable in dark viewing conditions) with much better viewing angles (which is noticeable in all viewing conditions).
... and a bonus pic of how my shelves are coming along...

New Vizio P-Series released.

65" $1,999
55" $1,299

I went down to bestbuy to check out the new 4k LG Oled tv, that tv is the truth. It's a shame that the input response is so poor. 50-60ish ms if I remember correct and that's really not acceptable for gaming. Hopefully, the 2017 model can sort that out.
I would have to agree there. Ever since I got a decent IPS gaming monitor, I would never go back to VA again (poor viewing angles eats at me more than a minor bleed or little less on the black levels). OLED or bust at that point.
And if you keep soft ambient lighting red or blue lighting behind you, it does not stick out like they used to with quality IPS panels.
It may eat at some people, but to me, it still looks fantastic.
Next step is an OLED TV, but I am torn if I should get a 50-55" Sony IPS in the $800-$1K range, or wait on another SlickDeals $1300 for the EG9100 whenever that will be. I want the set before Uncharted 4 hits, and I have a backlog I do not want to play on my 27" 1080p IPS monitor, because I want to experience them on a 50"+ screen. Especially Alien: Isolation, (which is making me lean towards the OLED for obvious 'infinite blacks' reasoning, lol).

Once you go OLED you can't go back. So if you ever want to enjoy an LCD again, don't buy an OLED now.I would have to agree there. That remote is a huge waste of money and resources. They probably could have doubled the number of zones and/or pulled off at least 100% P3 for what that thing's costing them..
I thought the current 2016 model (i.e. the G6) was like 34ms.
Looks like the new M Series will also include the tablet remote but lacks the Ultra Color Spectrum that Vizio lists on the P Series.

9100 is really impressive (being only fullhd and all).
Watched an episode of better call saul on my old tv and then tried it on the new one because I remembered the episode opened with a black and white scene.
Different worlds, shit looked like 8k or something compared to the old set. And when the colors came in: holy shit, can't really describe it but colors looked so... colorful I guess. Don't know if it has something to do with 10 bit content because I honestly don't know if BCS is shot that way, but the picture was incredible.
For the record, I've calibrated the set so it's not like I have shitty dynamic mode enabled or something, colors look just awesome. And blacks even better.

The 1080p OLED will still make 4k LCD look worse.
Those TVs looks great and Vizio always has the best prices. Glad this is a feature they decided to highlight, it bodes well for it's gaming performance (even if it's the last feature they show off lol)
.
Is there a Youtube video showing this as I've wondered how this works since last year. Is it 4k 120 fps, because we are a long way away from video cards doing that. Or is it 1080p 120fps then TV upscales it to 4k. At that point I think I'd just rather have native 1080p 120fps with no upscale.
1080@120hz upscaled, the upscaling is great on most 4k sets though. The TV has to upscale since it wouldn't display it otherwise. 4k is at 60hz. Display Port 1.3 might be able to do 4k@120hz but we haven't heard much more about it at this point.
