Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

Not sure if i wanna go with the B6 65" or the 75" Vizio P series. I've got a panasonic ST60 right now and I don't know if I can handle LCD. Has anyone here moved over from a Panny to one of these new Vizios? if so how do you feel about it?

I always say this but I don't think anyone has listened to me, lol. Play unfinished swan

I skipped over it initially, but I'll give it a go.

Congrats on the E6 purchases. I'm still planning on joining the club but with the banding issues on the 65" I'm probably going to buy from Crutchfield to get the 60-day option and no tax. All the banding discussion and pics in the UK forum has me concerned. I think the $1,000 off ends on 4/30 so I'll be putting in an order between now and Saturday unles it gets extended.

I ran some slides after I got it setup and I only noticed very faint banding on the 10% slide. Other than that I have yet to see it while watching any media. Including 4K footie on YouTube, 4K HDR Marco Polo, 4K Knights of Sedonia, some Force Awakes, some hockey, plenty of gaming, and just some standard HD TV. I'll get some slide images after the TV gets some more hours clocked.

I redownloaded Super Stardust Ultra and Trine 2 to test out the 3D and it works damn well, but goddamn if Trine 2 doesn't look gorgeous on this TV and that was a PS4 launch title. The Show 16 looks pretty crazy, Alienation really shines when everything is exploding around you, and I haven't had a chance to give Ratchet & Clank a spin yet. The fam is watching DirecTV which doesn't look bad at all uprezzed. I have to say I'm really blown away by this TV.

Ah yeah. I really have to give Super Stardust a try. I can see why that would look great!
It's definitely incredible, especially if you never had an OLED before.

That sucks. I don't know if mine has it, and I don't wanna go look for it. I'll try to detect it during regular viewing but that stuff with all those sliders, and then possibly finding something and constantly knowing where it is, I don't think I want to do that.

If I remain happy with it, not being able to see any issues, then I'll keep it. So far I've not seen anything yet.

Do you know if there are banding issues on the 55" as well?

I had mine (E6) for a week now, not much to say other than that it is completely awesome. Coming from a 2009 Plasma TV, it's just an entire different experience watching on that TV.

I haven’t purchased the E6, but I have seen it at the store. I gave my impressions on AVS and will repost it here:

I finally took the opportunity yesterday to see one of the 2016 models in person. I stopped in at a Best Buy on my way home from work and ironically, they didn’t have a G6 on display. However, they did have the E6 (55”) set up.

I will have to say, it looked amazing. Even though the TV was like 15’ in the air, the improvement in quality compared to the other televisions was obvious. Much brighter and very vibrant with colors. There was no question which was best.

When speaking with the salesman, I asked to watch varying broadcast channels. And where there were times I did seem some artifacting, it was extremely minor and something I can live with. I am guessing that station was probably in 720. When looking at ESPNHD (which I believe is 1080), I didn’t notice any kind of artifacting at all.

I did ask the salesman if I could get an example of something fast in motion (wanted to check the motion resolution), which he then brought up the Hulk vs. Hulkbuster scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Very good example, and honestly, if there was any kind of blur or judder, it’s not something I noticed, and I was trying to look for it. Although I will admit it was probably a little harder to find due to the height off the floor.

I also asked him if it was in TruMotion, and he wasn’t certain. But he looked for the remote, and of course could not find it. And as it was well off the floor, we couldn’t manually check. However, either way, if TruMotion was on or off, the scene looked great without issue that I noticed, and it did have a lot of very fast movement.

Finally, I want to comment on how ‘real’ the clip looked. I even asked if this was 4K (and then remembered Age of Ultron has not been released in it yet). But he confirmed it is just blu-ray upscaled. However, it just popped out at me, it felt like I was looking through a window and watching the combat going on outside. I was duly impressed.

Oh, and one last thing. I did look for banding, and didn’t notice any. But then I know it hasn’t been reported with the 55” as much as with the 65”.

I have a Samsung UN55D8000 from around 2011-2012 and I'm thinking of finally upgrading. I have a bit of cash to throw around so I'm thinking about the Samsung UN55JU7500.

Displaylag put it as the best gaming tv in 2015, it's curved, 3d, smart, 4k, 240 refresh. I want something with a low input lag, and I believe it was clocked in at around 17ms.... other sites I've read said around 20ms though....

Any thought or impressions before I pull the trigger on it?

Funny that you mention "looking through a window". I had been describing my experience to friends saying that it's not like any TV I've seen before, it really is as I described it too, like looking through a window.

Can't wait to watch real 4k on it. But that might be far off, it will have to be through streaming. I don't plan on getting an actual player until the new PS4K comes around.

I ended up taking some pictures of the slides last night for the hell of it. One thing to note is that you may see some bands on the slides, but I have yet to actually see them in a real world situation. I downloaded Unfinished Swan as well, but haven't had a chance to play it.

Have there been any rumors or leaks about the pricing for the B6 models? The wait is killing me.
$ 2,999 for the 55" apparently.

That looks much, much better than last year's models. White slide is looking good too. Congrats and enjoy your new TV.

Edit: Second pic doesn't seem to work. At least not for me.

I can get the 65" 9600 online for $3700 right now, I'm hoping that by this time next year I can get the B6 65" for the same or less. To the people that already got their E6s, congrats, you're living the dream.

Hey guys, is 4K worth it at this point?

I think I'll rather buy a new TV that I can keep for years to come, and not buy another in the next 5-10 years if possible.

If 4K is recommended, any good options out there?

It will mostly be used for gaming as well

Priority for me is for games to look at their upmost potential. Everything I've had usually makes games too dark or too bright.

As long as the games look great, no input lag (perhaps a gamed mode option?), that should be enough.
With that mentality, wait until the 4k HDTVs can hit most/all of the BT.2020 color spectrum. Next year's models should start breaking down that barrier.

Next week me and my bro are going to demo the JS8500 and there's a good chance he'll buy it if he really likes it. We'll bring the Xbox One with us.

We just need to know how to access game mode on that TV. Because i remember on the HU7500 that it was kind of a hassle to find game mode. We really will want to try that mode to see how the input lag and picture quality is.

Must. Stick. With. 9300...

The E6 looks amazing though.

With these reviews of new TV's i always wonder truly how much better it possibly can be than for exampe the 9300. I mean those black levels are already like looking at ink, so would i even see that difference? I wonder the same about picture quality, if i fire up a game or movie on my 9300 and also on the new one, would i truly see huge differences?

In settings I think you scroll right down towards the bottom and it should be under general. I would make sure the samsung motion smoothing is turned off as well, makes things look weird to me

You ask the weirdest questions. It's not going to get any blacker because the pixel is just turning off entirely on both sets. Movies will look way better on the new OLEDs

Cross post cause I'm back to shopping again...

Picked up the Vizio P55 from Best Buy yesterday and I'll be returning it today. I'm having some unbearable issues with ghosting from PWM flicker while playing on the PS4. It's giving me a headache and my eyes feel like they're straining after about 15-20mins of gameplay. Not sure if it's a bad panel or I'm just sensitive to PWM flicker as I haven't encountered it much before. For watching TV and streaming video's it a great TV.

Thanks man.

That wasn't my intention. It's just that i think there's a point where you just don't really see a big difference anymore. I mean i went from a Sony W829 to a EC9300 and while it's a lovely TV, picture quality during shows or movies is actually quite the same. To me it is, except of course for the black levels. But as for these two OLEDs i am genuinely curious how big the difference is with a blu ray disc or while using Netflix. But then again, i am not a big tech guy. And I'm sure there's stuff in the new one that makes it significantly better.

Have any long play sessions of any games with persistent HUDs? I'm plowing through Dark Souls 3 and am wondering if image retention is a problem
I have had my OLED for a year now, not one problem with image retention.

Dark souls 3 looks stunning on it.
There's auto dimming on static elements to prevent it, though. Have you noticed it, dsk? Especially visible when watching sports. Apparently you can turn it off somehow, but don't know how smart that is. Tempted to do it when I get a 2016 model, as it was pretty irritating, for me at least, when I had the EG9100.

The main difference between last year's 4K models and this year's, are the amount of nits (how bright the screen gets), colours, screen uniformity, and of course input lag, which are all improved on this year. An un-trained eye will probably not see any distinct differences in terms of just picture quality, as the contrast ratios are the same on all the OLEDs (infinite).

Going to take my friend (also roommate) with me on Sunday to take a look at the TV and see what he thinks. But I’m pretty close to pulling the trigger on it.

I don't notice dimming on static images unless the whole image is static. If I leave dark souls for 5 mins without touching the controller it definitely dims, but the moment I touch the controller the brightness shoots back up.

Does your remote have and info button on it?

I am yeah, anything I should know? haha..

The US version doesn't have the row of buttons that the info button is on. I've been trying to figure out how to get the streaming info for the native Netflix app since there is no info button.

Ohh.. how weird. Yeah, it's right there. I've not used it for anything yet but that seems like a pretty important button to take away eh? =/

Complicated situation ahead.

I've run into a conundrum. Have my 4k set and a new receiver. Excited to finally get my surround sound up and running. Don't know much about audio, but got it all hooked up with everything going to the TV through HDMI, and then the TV outputting audio to the receiver through optical. I'd imagine you wiser people see where this is going... Optical can't do uncompressed surround sound, apparently. If I try it on my bluray player, it just turns my sub off. I was able to get around this by fucking with PCM/bitstream settings. I get all my channels, but I assume that means it's being compressed in some way.

Then, I switch to PC. It won't do shit other than stereo. I have to use HDMI to the receiver to get surround sound. I'm guessing it just won't fuck around with compressed surround, so my choices are stereo over the optical from the TV, or the real shit by plugging into the receiver. Problem is there's no convenient way of winning with the way settings work on the TV.

I have three inputs in use:

  1. Video Games (through a separate HDMI switch then to the samsung breakout box)
  2. 4k BluRay (with HDR on)
  3. PC (With HDR on, set to PC mode)

There's really no convenient way around this. If I just sent everything to the receiver, then the receiver to the TV, I'd have to be turning game/PC mode on every time I want to use them. I also assume I don't want to leave HDR on for an input that isn't actually using HDR (like the PS4). Thought I'd read it will fuck your colors or blacks or something. Turning HDR on/off on an input requires the TV to reset as well, so that's super inconvenient. Essentially I either need multiple outs on the receiver, or an HDMI audio out from the TV. Neither of which I have. So, I'm kind of fucked unless someone here comes up with something I'm missing.

Sorry for the long read.

What TV? I'm having a similar issue with my Vizio. Does your PC have optical out, or a spare PCI slot so that you can use an add-in card for optical out, or analog out?

Has anybody ran into a problem with red highlights on white text?

I get that on my tv when I run the PS4.

I've seen this happen on some TVs when they exhibit false contouring. Most "edge enhancement" settings do far more harm than good and make sure that your sharpness is set correctly. (for some manufacturers that means turning it all the way down, for others it means dead center)

It has the same button layout as the Euro version but they have different functions.

Top row is the same.
Middle row: US - rewind, play, fast forward; Euro - Text, T. Opt, Info
Bottom row: US - Caption, Pause, Focus; Euro - Play, Pause, Focus

No info button would be annoying but I'm going to use my Harmony One for most of the time. I'm assuming you can navigate Web OS with the D-pad, correct?

Going to Best Buy tomorrow to finally see one in person. Will probably order one from Crutchfield afterward.

Yep you can use the cursor or d-pad to navigate.

I got a 65in Samsung ks8000 Friday. Just tried ps4 and XBO this morning with game mode on. I'm experiencing some kind of frame skip/hitch or judder every 3-4 seconds. Any idea what's going on?

I'll respond to myself. So I fixed my issue by renaming the input and picture to "PC". I have no idea if the "PC" mode trick on Samsung tvs is lower input lag than the "game mode" setting though. I know rtings measured it around 20ms so I assume the "PC" mode is same or better?

So, exact same tv and I've noticed this issue as well. Game mode is totally fucked with constant stutter or tearing or something. PC mode is fine. But, turn on game mode and it turns into a shit show. On 3D games it appears as a stutter. But, it's easier to see playing 2D games. It looks like a weird screen tearing thing.

Wonder how wide spread this issue is.

Just bought a EG920v (2016 build) and wow does the picture look amazing on it. Only played Elite Dangerous, Forza Horizon 2 and Super Stardust Ultra on it but boy does it look good.

Can't wait to give the TV some 4K input to crunch.

Ordered a 65" OLED E6 today. Been looking to upgrade my SXRD rear projection for almost two years but waited until the right TV came out. I think this one will be worth the wait.

Where'd you order from?
And if you don't mind me asking for how much? I've seen reports on avs of really good prices at Cleveland plasma

Crutchfield for the full $6K but no tax which makes it a few hundred less than Best Buy and Amazon. I heard good things about Cleveland Plasma but they are cheaper because once you sign for the delivery, the TV is yours. No returns unless it's DOA. You have to deal with LG for any issues you have. With Crutchfield you have a 60-day exchange for any defect. They ship you a replacement at no cost to you. If mine ends up with banding issues I can hold on to it for almost two months in hopes that a later build will be improved. If you want to return it for a refund they ding you $125 for return freight fee though.

I did see a few people post about getting deals at Best Buy for around $5,100 - $5,500. I think that included using their BB credit card which I don't have. Even if I signed up for one they probably wouldn't start me off with a credit limit high enough to get an E6.
