Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

Ugh. I looked at the Vizio in person in BB and the screen looked great but the thickness
You can't have thin and be able to rock 126/128 FALD zones at the same time. I, for one, have never understood the push for thinness. When I'm watching TV I never, not once, have thought "boy this picture would sure look better if the TV were thinner," let alone even think about the width.

If you want one of the new LGs the B/C should be getting released here very shortly and should be cheaper than the P/G.
Nope.

OLEDB6P (Flat-panel OLED TV, 4K Smart TV with HDR)

· 55″ OLED55B6P: $4000
· 65″ OLED65B6P: $6000

OLEDC6P (Curved-panel OLED TV, 4K Smart TV with HDR)

· 55″ OLED55C6P: $4000
· 65″ OLED65C6P: $6000
It pains me to admit it, but the OLEDs are just priced way too high (though their picture IQ is the stuff of gods and legends). The Vizio P series, bar none, offer the best bang for the buck, as well as being highly reviewed across the board.

Again, I vote the Vizio.

That's list price, right? Why would anyone buy the B if the E can be had for $6K at Amazon?

And it's not just about thickness (though I did, admittedly, call that out) but it's the thickness AND the metal bezel that just makes it look gaudy or something. I get it's subjective and all, but I wish they had just gone all black.

edit: Can the E6 soundbar be removed? I don't want that thing since I'll install surround in my new home anyway.

I feel like the Vizio P should be cheaper and not include a tablet that no one was asking for. I also dislike the lack of a tuner and the silver bezel.

Otherwise I would've bought one by now :/

Guess what? The prices will drop when they are available to order. Just like the E magically dropped $1000 when it became available. They aren't going to keep the B/C models the same price as the E, you can bet on it.

the P is the E series. All four models end in P.

G/E/B/C.

I've had my 65e6p for a week and it's sensational. I had my V-Series Panasonic Plasma hooked up and running next to it last night as I sold it to some really nice old dudes from Craigslist and I was kind like "holy shit, I thought that Plasma looked good."

I couldn't really believe what a jump it was seeing them side by side.

If you've got the scratch, go for it. But I get it, I got lucky buying one of the closeout EF9500s and having an issue that ended up with LG just replacing the set with the new model. I probably wouldn't have quite been in the E6 market yet on my own... but I think the OLEDs are worth waiting for unless you need a TV right now

Sorry I meant E. Fixed my post to reflect as such.

Street price and MSRP are different things. The 55" E6 currently retails for $3999 everywhere. Why would the B6 and C6 with fewer features/bells/whistles be at the same price point?

So most of the references I quoted above were regarding the OLEDs "P" and not the Vizio P series? That's mighty confusing!

I had not seen any other news about the sets being available at retail outlets yet, so I posted the only concrete evidence available: the press release.

No, the soundbar cannot be removed from the E series. It's where a lot of the TV's processing guts are.
Guess what?
Bingo! Crutchfield has the 65" B6 for $4999 as apposed to the MSRP of $5999.

Holy ShamWow, put the pitchforks away! I'm not so stupid as to not understand that not a lot of consumer products these days actually go for MSRP. See above.

So basically if I want a 2016 LG OLED that's not curved and I *don't* want the unnecessary (and arguably unsightly) attached soundbar then I need to get the B model (which, sadly, doesn't do 3D). LG you silly people.

If you knew that was the case then why did you try to tell me I was wrong? Sorry if I was defending what I said.

Yep.

Yep.

That makes me think the 65" 2015 model might be the way to go for me for $4500. I know it might not be as good as the 2016 models, but it still looks really good.

I like the silver bezel a lot personally. Much nicer IMO than the standard black plastic-like bezels

How does 1080p content look on that screen? Do you play games? Do resolutions between 1080p and 4k scale well?

1080p looks great after some initial calibration. I don't use the 4k/60hz port on the tv as I have nothing that will really drive it at this time. I use HDMI port 1/30hz but yes I do game and set my calibration up more for watching movies. If I feel like gaming I turn on the gaming setting for lag reduction which takes most of the processing for movies etc out of the picture and it's fantastic for me.

I used this here to calibrate
http://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/vizio-m65-c1-2015-m-series-picture-settings/

But strangely enough doing a color reset really made things look great , even better than using all the white balance settings shown at the beginning of the article.

These things are on close-out essentially, so dealers are pricing them to go. An incredible incredible TV at that price. and LG's VIP service is great too if you end up with any issues

Thank you! I bought a brand-new one for $3000 earlier today from a MicroCenter! You saved me like $1500.

Has anyone tried these things yet?

I never bought an expensive TV before, but now I have enough savings and want to repalce my projector, since I don't have space for it anymore :(

Are those TVs any good for gaming? I'm very susceptible to lag.
It has an input lag of 36ms at 1080p. Which is pretty good for an UHD TV.

I don't know how it goes for all TV, but my "old" Philips model has lower input lag when feeding it a 4K image versus a 1080p image. I assume that the upscaling process slows that TV down. However I can't say that the same goes for the LG OLED screens. I don't have the things needed to test that at the moment.

yup. Best TV I've ever seen.

Between TV, HDR/4K/UHD, and incredible gaming, it's been an awesome purchase

Well I ended up going with a Samsung KS8000 and so far it's pretty great. I need to fine tune it a bit before calling it, but so far so good. I was kind of worried about getting a LCD tv, but even without game mode it's not too bad. It's not like my plasma, but I'll get used to it.

Does anyone have some good places to download test 4k content? HDR stuff too.

I'm gonna wait on buying a 4k UHD player for the time being.

I have a question regarding UHD upscaling in gaming mode.

So I've been eying the Samsung JU6850 model for quite a while now(unfortunately thats only the german model name, I don't know what the model is called in the US, if available at all.)

The reason why I'm interested is because it has HDR while costing well below 1000€. According to Samsungs own PQI its in line with the usual 1500€ models while costing way less. The next significant jump in picture quality would be the Quantum Dots models for 2500€+

Now I've read quite a bit about it and I have heard some conflicting things regarding input lag and UHD upscaling. My primary use will be gaming, so input lag is important to me.
One reviewer on amazon said that the input lag is pretty significant with all the post processing in effect, thats fixed in the gaming mode, but the upscaling in gaming mode creats heavy artifacts and the picture quality suffers a great deal.

My question now: Is this something I will have to deal with or are there models that either have low input lag with proper upscaling enabled, or still provide a good image in gaming mode.

Moving to a new place giving my 2009 model Panny plasma to a friend, looking to upgrade.

I was considering the Sony XBR55X930D ($1,999.98) but the input lag is 52ms..no thanks. My budget is $2000, picture quality and input lag are top priority for me. Any GAF recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I don't know much about what to avoid in new sets right now.

Get whatever size you need in the Vizio P series. 17ms input lag on Input 5. And Best Buy is having a crazy good sale on the 50/55" sizes.

I can't recommend the JU7100 enough. It doesn't support HDR or Quantum Dots, but it has one of the lowest 4K latencies (26ms) and offers what is perhaps the best picture for an LCD. It scales everything perfectly with even SD content looking as intended. Perfect display for gaming.

Just switched up and back with Comcast for better internet.

Now the wait is on to see if they ever give two fucks to release their Xi5 or Xi6 boxes. Would be nice to have a UHD/HDR box over the Xi1 box I have now currently.

Since NBC has the Olympics in UHD HDR with Atmos I would expect Comcast to be pushing for July. Maybe throw us a bone and put a few events on their UHD sampler app.

I've been looking for TVs for a while now, and since I've just recently moved into my apartment, the time seems good. What is GAF's opinion on the Samsung UN48JS8500?

Going to be using it for gaming and movies.

EDIT: My price-range is $1000 - $1800.

Rumor is an HDR box in July. It's not gonna be 4k just hdr supposedly.

I've heard so much bs from Comcast about all of this though I'll believe it when I see it. Plus I imagine Comcast charging out the ass to get the better box.

Currently torn between the new Vizio M series and the Sony X810C. The Vizio M is newer (released just a few weeks ago) and has HDR. The Sony has great reviews but it's a 2015 model and doesn't have HDR. It seems like the Sony is better at upscaling content under 1080p (e.g.: TV channels) too. Both TVs are the same price.

Decisions, decisions...

Will someone with a 2016 Vizio P-series please tell me what version (number) of Lollipop is running the tablet?

My vote is for the M-Series. HDR is going to be *everywhere.* 4K is nice, but it's a minor upgrade without HDR, imo.

No reason not to get a HDR model at this point unless you are looking to spend sub $600.

Plus beyond that specific Sony model there are a ton of HDR models from Sony, Samsung, LG ect... from last year on sale if you wanted to go that route.

Apparently some outlets have had trouble measuring the input lag, FlatPanelsHD said

We know that others have had issues with input lag on XD93, even failed to measure it with a meter, but our Leo Bodnar gave us no trouble. We measured a decent 36 ms input lag in the game mode, which means that XD93 is a good choice for game console use. In the Cinema Pro profile input lag rose to 65 ms that is somewhat too high for a great game console experience.

I'm looking at the X93D or X94D for my future TV when the prices come down. I would love an OLED, but don't like LG. If Vizio was available in my country I'd definitely check them out though, they sound like great value.

Yeah, I'm currently feeling the same way. Just a bit worried about how content under 1080p will look on the Vizio since I watch a decent amount of sports.

Any 55-60" 4K HDR at $1250 or less from those brands? I didn't see any at all.

I read one of the more recent reivew, X930D input lag is 36ms, not the best but definitely not bad. Lots of reviewers were having trouble taking proper measurement earlier. On top of that, Sony has also released multiple FW update since launch. I am interested in buying the set as well.

I can't speak on sports yet, as NFL is the only sports I watch, but I've not had any motion issues with my P65. So far I've played video games, watched TV, and watched a number of blu-rays and 4K streaming content.

Have you considered the Vizio P series? They have double the FALD zones than the M and the 55" can be had just outside of your price range.

Yeah, I'm torn between the M and P since there are other devices that I want to get this year and next year (consoles, computer, and possibly a new phone).

The reason why I was looking at the Sony was due to how well it upscaled sources that were under 1080p. I honestly can't see the new Vizio being any worse for 480p/720p footage than my current Samsung HDTV that's three years old though so I think I'll just get the Vizio.

Is the 7" tablet required to change all settings on the Vizio TV? I have an iPad Pro so if the Vizio app works well with iOS then I would really have no need for the Vizio smartcast tablet (and would possibly sell it).

I actually got the 43" m series last week (my brother broke my tv.. was trying to hold out until black friday..) it has very good picture i didnt notice any motion blur last night during the warriors win.

Contemplating a Vizio P65 as my seven year old Samsung Plasma just started having green/blue vertical line/power cycling issues on startup.... not sure how long it's going to make it!

Trying to decide if the $700 difference between the 55 and the 65 is worth it. Best Buy is the only place to find these things it seems?

So my folks just bought a new '55 tv after the last one died..it's the Sony X8508C.
Does this tv considered a good one?
Also,of anyone have calibaration settings foe tv view for the Sony 40w705c (my set) I would appreciate it very much! Thanks.
