You definitely did, but let me say this... Rising blacks on Panasonic PDP series 10 is NOT due to the degradation of the panel itself. It's Panasonic software shenanigans:

By factory default, the panel rises 0.03 Cd/m2 after just 200 hours of operation.

They only fixed that on series 30, and via a firmware upgrade, sadly they didn't do the same thing for 10 and 20 series despite the fact they could.

But you can make it return to the original values nonetheless; by reseting the hour counter every once in a while; not ideal, yes... But I gotta say that a V10 kinda deserves it still.

Yes. Supposed to be really good. I just bought a W6 which doesn't have it, but I'll definitely look out for it on my next set. I do tend to favour Sony for LCDs because of their superior motion flow

Ugh, tried to order the 65 inch Panasonic S60 on Bestbuy.com after debating all day and it says that it is unavailable in my area...lame.

Are there any other good options for 60-65 inch TVs for that price range ($1200-1500) for mostly gaming?

Edit: Man the 50 inch S60 was reduced to $699 in store at Best Buy too but it isn't available anywhere close to me. Bummer.

I'm upgrading from a 720p 32" Samsung LCD to a 1080p 42" Samsung LED 2013 model (so pretty much exactly same as you're asking) tomorrow/this coming week. So I'll let you know!
 
So right now I have a Samsung 22'' 720p model from like 2010 that I got pretty cheaply. I wanna finally upgrade and get a 32''-40'' 1080p because I don't have a ton of room. Anyone have any suggestions for where to go from here? I don't want to go too far over $400 unless the jump will be that huge.
 
What is Cinema Mode and why is it turned on Automatically when watching FIOS but turned off and cant be access when playing PS4/PS3?

I see the Bluray movies fine and it says om HDMI info its running at 24hz as it should,
but why is Cinema Mode not active?, I would assume a mode like that would be put in there for movie watching?.

Maybe the TV realizes its a gaming console not a Bluray and Blocks Cinema mode expecting it to have a side effect?.

For FIOS I see extra clear PQ and Motion isnt soap opraish but you can tell news scrolls look smooth and clear not blurry.
 
In the ultimate bargain hunter, but won't satisfy the aficionado category, when this comes back in stock/sale at $250 it is truly excellent. Upgraded from a 32" 1080 IPS CCFL, and man is it great.

Almost imperceptible flash lighting (usually the serious issue with these cheap sets), though improved after extended power cycles.

Excellent white and black levels with (surprisingly) Dynamic Contrast on Low. No visible ghosting or lag issues perceptible to my eyes.

Runs a little crushed out of the box, recommend bumping the brightness, otherwise very good RGB coverage.

This one has since flash in the corner. And I have seen color pop and blocking that I don't remember on the other set. She says we are done exchanging sets though.
 
I'm thinking of buying a Panasonic ST60, but I'm concerned about the burn in as I watch a lot of stuff in 4:3. Am I better off getting a non Plasma TV?
 
Just got my 60" VT60!!

Will post impressions later, but the build date is June 2013 and this was before the supposed fan fix (I believe). What should i be on the look out for? A buzzing noise?
 
Just got my W900a setup, there were some hand prints on it after moving it. I went to clean it, just using water, but the water wouldn't come off easily and now I am having a difficult time removing the streaky water marks.

Did I do something wrong? How am I supposed to clean this thing?

Why do a lot of the listed settings for the Sony W900a, and many other LCDs, use Warm 2? I find that setting dulls out the whites, makes them kinda brownish, wouldn't the base setting or warm 1 give a more accurate color representation?

Warm 2 is the most accurate whitepoint (6500k). "Neutral" is seriously blue tinted. Use warm 2 for awhile then try and go back. You'll see.
 
Jesus H. Mother of God, I recently got my Panny ST60 delivered and it is a fucking beast! So much depth, the images pop out of the screen (no 3D needed lol), the blacks are super black and the input lag is really not that noticeable for me. Then again, I don't play online shooters or racers, so I'm not bothered by it.

Granted, when watching regular cable tv it looks okay, but once I changed the source to HD, oh mamma, there is nothing like it! Best purchase I have made in a loooong time.

I'm in the same boat. I am still breaking in my VT60, but the THX mode while watching Pacific Rim (amazing Blu-ray btw) made my jaw literally drop, especially during the Hong Kong fight. Jesus. The inky blacks, the color contrast, I couldn't take it!

Still waiting for around the ~150 mark to calibrate.


Also, does someone mind explaining 96hz to me and 1080p/24. Are these things related? I always assumed that because most tvs are 60hz, the 24 fps of typical movies would cause some sort of additional judder? Is that right? And, using 96hz, a multiple of 24hz, allows it to be smoother without adding "soap opera effect." Is that right?
 
So I have a quick, stupid question. I've been hunting around and comparing 55-60" tvs and was considering a couple that are on sale this week, but I would really like to see what sales will start tomorrow before I take the plunge if possible. Any way to see next week's ads early?
 
How are Samsung's plasmas? I'm moving early next year and want a plasma set but Panny is discontinuing them. I've had some seriously bad experiences with Samsung sets before but if it's the best price/performance ratio it'll be my only option.

Horror stories about every brand, its inevitable.

My Samsung b650 plasma will be 5 yrs old this year, never missed a beat and aside from newer sets having better measurable black levels I have never seen anything so dramatically better I felt the need to upgrade.
 
On my st60 I watched Tron legacy at 96hz and looked gorgeous and smooth. Tried watching Prisoners tonight at 96 and noticed flickering so had to bump it to 60hz. Guess films handle it differently.

I don't have much hands on with the cheaper models. I did install a 5500 series for my father in law, and from what I had seen in store, and in his basement it looked great.

Personally I have owned (and still do) quite a few Panasonic plasmas over the years. I had exchanged a few higher end Panny models for various reasons, and settled on the 8000 series plasma.

It's been a great experience since I had installed it. It's brighter then the VT that it replaced, and the black levels are pretty damn close to the VT so much so, that I have to REALLY look during a A/B testing while I had both in my house. I also noticed that the glare was reduced as well, from the different filters.

I can only speak on the 8000 series, but you will not be disappointed with the purchase.

My Panasonic VT60 honestly, was pretty sucky when I bought it. But now, after 200 or so hours of use, and a calibration, it's blossomed into something very, very beautiful. I loves it.
 
Jealous of all you new plasma owners. Still rocking the 42" pz85. Still a nice set and I'm glad it's working just fine, but I'm lusting after those inky blacks. Was always envious of the Kuros back then but they were way out of my budget. Might be in the market for a TV next year, I just hope Samsung is still in the game.

Performance of their top end line is about the same as the VT/ZT, if not pretty damn close. Plus with the ability to get a lot brighter and (IMO) a better AR filter. Quality probably isn't as good as Panasonic, but I haven't heard anything scandalous about their plasmas either. I'd say it's worth it. If Samsung is still making plasmas next year, they're going to be the only option for anyone wanting good picture quality.

Has Samsung even mentioned what their plasma plans are? It would be awful if CES rolls around and plasmas are quietly removed from their lineup. Videophiles will be truly fucked in that scenario.

Correct. When you're watching a bluray, switch to 96hz for smoother playback. This isn't the soap opera effect, it's just displaying films in their natural cadence like in the movie theater. Having said that, the judder at 60hz is pretty subtle, perhaps even undetectable on the newer sets, so you might not even notice a difference.

I just received mine (F8500) this past Monday. It is incredible. Best TV I have ever owned or seen. The thing that sets this apart from other plasmas are its brightness ability and its clarity/sharpness. It's like an LCD in that respect with a plasmas deep blacks and rich colors. With the recent firmware update, gaming lag is not noticeable (in game mode, which still looks awesome).
 
Guys, I found a Panasonic LED, 39", smart tv and Full HD with 3 HDMI. Its model is TC-L39EL6B.

Is Panasonic (and that model) recommended? Or should I go with Samsung?
Because I found a 32" samsung, full HD, LED, 3 HDMI, and it was more expensive than the 39" Panasonic. The model of the Samsung is this one 32F5500AGX.
 
Bought the 55" w900a yesterday, super happy with it, especially coming off a 32" viera. Its going to give new life to all my ps3 games.

Few Question.
1. Are default settings ok or should I get it calibrated? picture looks great to me already.
Only thing ive changed was sharpness to "0" as I remember everyone saying I should do so, or should I put it back to 50?

I also changed the mode to "game/gaming" which I assume stays in that mode no matter what im doing "tv, bluray, etc.."

2. Regarding my ps3 and ps4, should I set them to 1080p or "automatic" ? Does the tv or the consoles automatically change the resolution depending what the game resolution is?
Also that rgb full limited thing, what should that be set on? Any other settings I should b aware of on the consoles?
 
I was playing some Mario Kart 64 on my ST60 on game mode today. As I was dodging obstacles, power sliding, and boosting through turns; I made note of how much the supposed lag was not a problem. I'm guessing this is more of an online competitive FPS sort of problem?

I hope that for 2014 there's something between the 5500 and 8500 but I doubt it given how much of a decrease in competition there will be. 8500 is out of price range but 5500's performance doesn't sound up to snuff for me. Bang for the buck is a big deal to me.

Your first hand account is absolutely meaningless when the Leo Bodar clearly shows the lag is horrible and the set is practically unusable for gaming.

Just bought an 32F5500 Samsung. I found it a lot cheaper then I was finding in another stores and got it, once it have everything I want (Full HD, LED, 3 HDMI ports, 32" screen, Smart TV).

I have a LN26A450C1 (its a Samsung, LCD, 26", not Full HD). So I believe I'll see a huge difference! And how I never felt a frame-rate problem or a "non smooth" feeling, Im not looking for a 120hz TV right now (also they are harder to find, and more expensive).

Here at home we have an LG Full HD, 42"; a Toshiba 32" (not sure its model and specs); a old Philips 42" (not full HD); and mine Samsung 26"... all of them LCD. And sometimes I am still impressed with the color scheme of my TV even being a 26" non special screen. So I am very sympathized with Samsung brand for TVs.

I use it as a PC monitor, and to play my PS4. Hope that I like that new LED one, and that I can see a hunge difference compared to my actual one.

Buy the Disney WOW BluRay, it's a cheap way to get much more out of the set until/if you become interested in professional calibration.

Turn the sharpness back up to 50, I played around with it for a bit, and 0 makes everything way to blurry. Anywhere between 50 and 60 seemed pretty good to me.

Also most of the picture settings seemed pretty good to me, I turned off a lot of the extra things like motion, the reality thing, edge enhancement and the others like that. Maybe someone else will have a better idea of what to leave on to get the best picture.

Hmm it did seem like it was a little blurry when I turned it down to 0.
