Tell that to Kotick

Activision will do everything they can to turn this into a billion dollar franchise. Sony has been heavily promoting it in their at their conferences. Destiny had longer stage demo than any game at Sony conference last E3.
I remember seeing that, and thinking, "you're insane, Kotick." Not only would that have to beat Wii Sports, but even ignoring that, it would have to be phenomenon. I know Activision has experience with multiple of those, the latest example being Skylanders, but I have serious doubts about them being able to recreate a fever pitch following overnight at will.

I think Destiny 1 will be huge, but not COD huge until Destiny 2 (after Comet 1), earliest. I see the first entry capping out at 10-12million units.

Because Sony do better out of strong yen than weak yen in the US. They had no incentive to raise the US price since it had a marginal effect on their proftiability. It was the other currencies that killed them, and you can see that in pricing even now where European and Asian prices are buffered against a sudden strengthening of the yen in case of an external shock or natural disaster.

So when a $300 PS3 purchased in the US got them 22,500 yen instead of the usual 30,000 yen, that was a bigger benefit to them?

The retailers/distributors favouring MS is very real in the UK too. Hard to tell if it's hold-over attitudes because the 360 was so dominant, higher margins on the Xbone or favourable treatment from MS in general.

Yea I've been noticing that in the UK. Every Game twitter account is regularly saying "Xbox One [insert marketing here]". Yet I've not noticed a single one say anything about PS4. Possibly I'm just missing things. I'm surprised retailers are so pro Xbox considering Xbox would go all digital if they could. Then again money is money.

GAME will take whatever they can get at this point, they're looking to refloat themselves on the stock exchange and Microsoft's support is crucial to that. But the irony is, if Microsoft dominated the same way they did with the 360, you can guarantee they'd bring back the DRM this gen or the next, which would shutter GAME for good.

I'm pretty excited to get some NPD numbers after the posts Bish made. I said earlier in the month I think Xbox will outsell PS4 by 40K so I'll stick with that, but it sounds like either PS4 beat Xbox, or Xbox crushed PS4 (which I doubt). Either way should be fun reading.

Every PS4 they receive sells without them lifting finger.

Jesus christ, I know right?
#TheKartWon'tChart
He misspelled Kart. I fixed it for you. Carry on.
Lol thanks for that. And yes, it was a (pretty obvious) joke. Kart will chart; I merely wanted to convey that it will not have an appreciable effect on Wii U sales overall. I (perhaps mistakenly) believed that a cheeky hashtag was just the vessel for my message.

It made no difference to them since their supplier and assembly contracts were, and are, priced in USD. If there was ever a shortfall in the contracts having a stronger yen allowed them to spend less money to make it up which is why it was actually advantageous to have a weak dollar and/or strong yen.

Bish should have a small window in his bunker, so at least he can take peaks of the carnage going on outside.

i might sneak in and join him, grab some popcorn and see the madness through the window

To hit 15m they will have to continue to seel 1mil a month right upto holiday season in Late December.

If they are limited to how many they can produce currently won't they be holding some back the latter half of the year for the Holiday sales?

Meaning they may take a hit say from Sep to Nov (say 250K held back each month) but then have a huge blowout over xams to sell 2mil to reach the 15Mil by year end.

If Destiny in September drives a lot of sales could this then impact the amount they have ready for Holiday period, also there will be another COD, BF etc.which could also drive a lot of sales.

If I was a parent intending on getting one for Xmas this year I would probably buy early and hide it away, come December I think the hype train will return and the console will be very hard to come by yet again.

Why would they hold back numbers for the winter when they can sell them easily in the summer?

There was the prediction that the 3DS will sell around 500k in one month on the prediction thread. Bish must be referring to this.

Blood will be spilled and egos ripped to shred for that were all sure of. Gonna be an interesting day to say the least.

Yup. People put too much stock in their own expectations and then go crazy when things turn out different. We're going to see the word "banned" a lot today.

But what is this huge number of sold XBOs?
500k? 1mln? That's better than last months, but to me it doesn't seem like something Sony should be afraid of(they'll be ahead of sales by a couple of millilons anyway).
Or is people expecting more than a million? Sounds a bit crazy to me.

Will it though? There was no meltdown when Xbox One won December. The Xbox and PS4 are tied at the moment; it's not very surprising that they would have a few victories. That is if they won March; I don't think they did.

To have a larger stockpile for the Holidays.

I can see the demand for the PS4 this Holiday being worse than last years. Depending on E3 and what and when Sony announce their 1st Party titles, if any are due to hit before the end of the year I can see demnad far out stripping supply.

Maybe Sony doesn't want to upset to many little Johnies xmas morning.

Obviously in December neither had a AAA title out and Sony was still supply constrained. Moving forward to March with Titanfall and Infamous out now we get to see systems moving for these games. Gonna be inteersting to see how well evryone did either way..

i was under that impression too, but he seems to reference bunkers with bombs being dropped.

Could be. Regardless, people will get whipped into a frenzy over it making the NPD thread even worse. I'm not blaming bish, just people's inability to handle this kind of news.
