SERIOUSLY!!!! But watch some dopes in this thread blame Sony and say they are just being a greedy corporation. As if a 20-30% tariff increase wouldn't change the cost of an imported product.

When prices across the board are increasing for absolutely everything, it's going to happen.

PS/Xbox are building in the same factories, sourcing from the same component manufacturers, and using the same international grid of shipping and retail outlets...it's going to happen. Blue box or green box, it's not a matter of corporate greed it's a matter of larger economic conditioning.

Only economically clueless sheep will repeat, "Greedy corporations".

They increased prices in Europe before not because of tarrifs. Consoles get cheaper to produce with time, even with everything getting more expensive it's still 5 years old technology. Greed aspect is still there.

"Everyone is raising prices so why we don't do that?"

Component prices have also been going up lately. Everyone knows TSMC is charging more to fab chips nowadays. And then on top of that it's Tariffs. Why keep pushing this "greedy" lie?

Thank goodness I primarily moved to PC years ago, and was able to get a new Series X for pennies after trading in a lemon one a year ago. $800 for a Pro without a disk drive nor stand is insane lmao.

Depends what it is. Since even before covid, I find some things didnt change prices one bit. A lot of fruits/vegetables, chicken, pork and bread seems to be the same here (Canada). Heck, even gas prices have come down lately.

And real estate came way down from the peak in 2022 when rates were low. My home is worth the same as 2019. Hasnt appreciated $1 in 6 years. It rocketed up as people tried to beat interest rate hikes, then crashed down when mortgages rates probably tripled.

But electronics seem to have been kept sky high. Tariffs, too much fabricator monopoly, whatever it is. Anything chip related seems fucked.

Probably because of their recently released record profits.

But those profit margins will be eaten into due to an unnecessary cost being placed onto them due to tariffs. Chinese tariffs going from 8% to 30% matter. Why should Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo eat that extra cost that's placed on them for no reason at all?

Of course, I'm not arguing at all against tariffs being the main reason.
just explain where the "greed" could come from (especially for people who don't believe about the tariffs).

Damn, I get why more and more persons wanna switch to PC. USA finally getting EU prices...

When you think about it, if you're a multiplatform gamer like I've been all my life, it starts to make sense to switch to PC (or switch back), 799 for a PS5 Pro (WITHOUT a disc reader) 599 for a XSX... For 1400€ you get a quite good rig with which you'll be good to go for years.

Honestly it's a quite sad era in gaming, nothing inovative, nothing new, just the same games and same machines but more and more expensive for no fucking reasons.

Nice now that the gen is almost over i can resell/trade it in for prob about the same price I paid for it at launch. I remember when the xboxes went up gamestop was offering almost reg orig retail from them.

Granted the APU and chips are made in Tawain or elsewhere. But they really can't assemble the components in US? This is such a big market, their biggest. Instead the PS5s are assembled by chinese teens?

But even then, don't they have TSMC factories been built into US recently? We are talking about 6nm tech, not 3NP.

Owning a console (or even PC for that matter) is just like owning an iPhone instead of a cheap Android. This is a customer choice. The age of 99$ gamecube is over and that strategy never worked for a console anyway.
Reminder - if you haven't bought a Switch 2 yet they haven't increased the price from launch but it's just a matter of time
Nintendo probably already make plenty of profit on those US and EU Switch 2. This is super old 8nm tech we are talking about with the cheapest LCD ever. Just look at the price of Switch 2 in Japan.
