PlayStation 5 Pro does not work with the PS5 Slim plates.

What does this mean?

Are people really going to go with arrogant Sony on this? Slim to Pro upgrades vs launch model to Pro upgrades vs new to the gen is the path here. Are people upgrading from the slim to the Pro and also have an extensive collection of first party plates?

Geez, I really wanted the Chroma plates that are coming out soon for my upcoming Pro. Maybe they'll launch it around the same time.

Read the OP, maybe? They’re the exact same size. They just changed the connecting pegs to force you to buy new plates.
Maybe? We have not seen official Pro plates on the market yet. Not to mention, Sony hasn't really focused on the plates as much as I thought they would for the other consoles. I wish they had focused more on them with collectable and themed plates.

they are 100% the same shape and size...
but they changed the connection points...

sometimes Sony does things so unfathomably retarded that you can't tell if it's actually stupidity or just evil.

my bet here is on stupid. because there's no real monetary benefit to do this.
now they have to manufacture 2 sets of plates, and can't sell the existing stock of plates to Pro owners. meaning they might sit on shelves for longer, making them less likely to be ordered by stores as they might get stuck with them.

less people will own Pro consoles, which means their Pro specific plates will by necessity be produced at a lower quantity, making them more expensive for them to make.
at the same time they piss off people that already own plates and want to upgrade.

there's no winning here. it's just retarded across the board

Yes it was obvious by just looking at it, but I suppose you gotta have a eye for that.
There's no "eye" that allows you to see the mounting teeth locations when the plate is mounted on the console. The top plates are the same size, only the mounting teeth locations are different so it was not unreasonable to assume they would be compatible.

So bottom plates work

If you have a disc based slim you can swap w the pro I guess

Maybe Sony doesnt want people to buy the plates and change the design on their own? But instead have some kind of control over how their consoles look, by making their own variants of it. I saw some images recently, of colored PS5s, which looked really cool.

So which covers can work with the Pro? Or will Sony be selling new covers just for the ps5 pro?

Sony is going to sell new plates for the Pro, it was on the original Blog post...

"Players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available"

Did.. we think it would? It’s a different console.. with a different shape..

I mean.. sure that would have been cool, but if you seriously expected cross compatibility of physical cosmetic hardware plates across different consoles… man I don’t know what to tell you.

Don't you mean different plates? How many slim users would buy a pro then use the same plates? I'd say most buyers are either new to PS5 or are upgrading from the OG PS5 rather than upgrading from the slim (there will be some but I don't think too many in comparison)

.... Unless you mean fools who bought plates before they hit the PS5 Pro and just assuming they fit (in which case they should have done their research)

There was conflicting information out there.

Damn... I do hope Sony releases some cool looking plates for the Pro, those shiny iridescent beetle style ones for the slim look really cool. I wanted the green one for the Pro 🥲

Sony said this in the initial PS5 Pro announcement ,idk why people didnt listen
The same reason they ignore Cerny. Narratives are generally born out of ignorance. Just look at some of the takes in this very thread, unironically claiming that Sony is trying to take Microsoft's spot at the table of stupid all because they chose not to do research or pay attention.

If you read the first part of that they retracted that they'd fit, but yeh, there was some outlets with conflicting info but Sony said they would release Pro plates in the future which should have been enough to think the current plates wouldn't fit or at least wait for confirmation before buying

Have to say Sony, this is some grade A retard shit. How hard could it have been to make the top plates fit the Pro??? I mean, you got it 99% right, size, shape... but couldn't make the fucking clips line up.

God really wanted the black plates as well.

Stupid decision given the otherwise similar designs of the PS5 and PS5 Pro to not make the faceplates compatible. That is going to just lead to customer confusion when buying faceplates if they are not advertised correctly on sites such as Amazon etc.

Call me cynical but I can't help but wonder if this was intentional so Sony could sell Pro faceplates for an extra £5-£10 over the standard ones. I wouldn't put it past Sony these days to do something like that.

Sony literally posted a chart on their website saying they wouldn't work but everyone tried to argue yes they would do I'm not sure what to tell people who doubted Sony about it

Yeah, I don't understand why people weren't paying attention to that. But there it is, I guess.
Well for starters… it sounded TOO MONUMENTALLY STUPID to be true. But hey… 2024 Sony burns 200 million dollars for fun so what do I know?

Whats retarded is you think Sony who went through all the trouble to make the lower drive and plate compatible with the pro then decided to make a different upper plate which requires a different production line, separate packaging and inventory because... reasons.

The obvious answer is pro has a different underlying structure than slim which therefore requires different mounting points.
