PlayStation 5 Pro does not work with the PS5 Slim plates.

What's retarded is you thinking Sony, who went through all the trouble to make the lower drive and plates compatible with the pro, then decided to make a different upper plates which requires a different production line, separate packaging and inventory because... reasons.

The obvious answer is, the pro has a different underlying structure than the slim, which therefore requires different mounting points.

there is absolutely no way that they couldn't have planned for that beforehand. these plastic hooks aren't gigantic elements that would make it impossible to arrange them in a way that makes both system support the same ones.
and looking at the comparison images, the mounting hooks aren't even that far off from eachother.

them not making them intercompatible is just plain stupid.

Post says they are the same size just fastens differently
Yeah you know this was ego sony cashing in on people upgrading and having to buy plates again. Absolute intentional cash grab.

Edit: I'm one of the morons that bought black plates for the slim disc hoping they would fit the Pro. Considering the bottom plates fit, I can do a black & white half half type of job lol

It's definitely intentional, Sony know what they are doing. Because anyone who is willing to upgrade/fork out for a Pro is willing to pay again for custom plates. It's more revenue for people to double dip. Any old school gamer who has known Sony for the last 30 years knows this how Sony operates.

I can't believe people like BlitzerRadic BlitzerRadic think that it was just somehow part of the design and that's how it ended up lol. Like that's not how it works, it's moulded plastic, if they wanted them to fit they would. The plates are the exact same fucking size. I actually used to work in manufacturing many years ago. This is 100% intentional.

Damnit oh well I got 4 days to return mine to Amazon. Glad I ordered some Matt plastic paint for my systems. Already did the disk drive cover and it came out nice!

Use TAMIYA acrylic spray paints if you want a good outcome! They have them on Amazon.com
Just do light coats till it’s all covered properly! Only about $10.00 in paint needed

Or maybe, just maybe the design of the chassis is different and the places where the original plates were fitted is not available. Having to introduce an entire new SKU will offset any "cash grab" for the tiny amount of people that will actually buy plates.

How tight can they get? If I was upgrading my slim with red plates to pro I would be pretty annoyed with this.

I kept posting it but the CNET guy with the first hands on said they weren't compatible in his video, it hasn't been something they've hidden they just haven't talked about it a lot. There was a website that said Sony "confirmed" they were compatible but they never linked an actual source/quote.

Sony, WTF?! Why? You have the same design and you change only those small things in two plates? I bet they don't sell much of those panels (and it looks like they don't care about it) and for Pro it will be even less. I think it doesn't make sense.

Anyway I'll sell my black plates, no big deal. It's just baffling.

Yeah, but he wasn't specific about it. His take was like "it's different design" which is not true. It seemed that he is telling that because of eyeballing Slim and Pro and not that this is what Sony told him.

I'm sure he asked someone about it before making the statement and the sony blogpost mentioned being able to change them when the plates become available.

Maybe but that's the thing for me, he wasn't precise with that statement and even showed that he don't know what he is talking about (the design). Maybe I'm too much focused on the wording, English is not my first language.

sony blogpost mentioned being able to change them when the plates become available.
That was for me a bit vague but it might be me.

In the end, they could just write in the blog something like 'Pro and Slim models plates aren't interchangeable' at that would end whole discussion. Our doubts where there because they didn't do that and the plates itself looked identical.

I first thought that they're the same form factor... That is kinda dumb

The market is huge for plates, Sony sell a lot of their branded ones. Majority of ppl who have the money to buy or upgrade to a Pro is more of an enthusiast / hardcore console gamer and will most likely pay for plates. Just because you don't have interest, doesn't mean ppl don't buy the plates. It's more popular than you think.

Doubt it. I've never even seen them for sale in EU. Only third party branded ones and they are much cheaper. So unless Sony somehow is deliberately changing the layout to provide third party businesses more revenue from the few that bought plates for the PS5 slim and even fewer of those that will be buying a Pro. We're talking about such a tiny portion of the market it is actually more expensive having to introduce a new SKU than just keeping the old one and making it fit on the Pro.

There's no "eye" that allows you to see the mounting teeth locations when the plate is mounted on the console. The top plates are the same size, only the mounting teeth locations are different so it was not unreasonable to assume they would be compatible.
There has to be more to it than what is obvious here. If the shape/size of the plates is exactly the same, it does not make sense that they would simply change the mounting teeth. Perhaps the difference isn't on the plates itself, instead it is on the hardware itself, the shape of the case that the plates attach to is slightly different than the Slim so the mounting teeth needed to be in different locations.

I doubt they had a business requirement saying that: "make sure the mounting teeth location" is different so we can sell the top plates or something or maybe that is exactly what they plan on doing lol... I hope not.

Damn the dick eating on this thread is hilarious.

Would like to see the comments on a thread like this about an Xbox product. :D
What thread are you reading? Everyone is pissed they don't fit. I was waiting on ordering the chroma plates and am pissed they won't fit. I guess if you're intent on a conclusion you can read it anyways you like.

You can order plates cheap from AliExpress. What's the problem??
The problem is they're intentionally making a pointless change just to bilk more money out of people when they sell their own Pro Plates™. It's literally the only reason for this change. It's bald-faced greed and yet another display of their contempt for customers.

This is 100% intentional.

So they made the vertical stand compatible with both as well as the disc drive but they did this on purpose. Got it. The vertical stand and disc drives are being given away for free where you guys live. Can you send me one of each? I'll pay for shipping

Why do you think this? It will inevitably get people who already bought plates to double-dip on Pro Plates™. Do you think they are above these kinds of scummy tactics?

They already get people to double-dip on upgrading their games from PS4 to PS5 versions.

They almost killed Helldivers by trying to force PSN requirements after people had already bought it, which would've also bricked the game for people who didn't live in countries with PSN.

They've actually raised the prices of consoles and accessories instead of lowering them over time this gen, including a 175% price increase over the original PS5 with the Pro (and that's BEFORE the disc drive). I'm shocked they're actually throwing in the cables for free.

There is zero rationale for this other than "money, pwease!"

I honestly have no idea what you're trying to say.

Why do I also need to consider the same thing everyone already is? Gamers are quick to villainize a company for a decision they make and granted this move by Sony definitely deserves that. Given it is just the mounting teeth placement, I was just trying to consider another reason.

Right, right.

Sony aren't the only one that require a login though.

I honestly have no idea what you're trying to say.
Then, why the response? lol you are attempting to counter what I said, but you also say you've got no clue what I am saying?

I just find it odd personally that they would make it a requirement for the hardware team to make sure the the mounting teeth are different so they can sell the "top" plate separately or a full set of pro plates. There are easier ways for them to do that without looking so obviously "scummy" was my point (e.g. make the design of the plates different). It would still be scummy, mind you. I also concluded my post by saying "...I hope not" leaving room for what you seem to "default" to.

EDIT
Oh that was in response to someone else, my bad. lol.

Can you give me a single example of another company retroactively forcing a login that would also make the product inaccessible for people who already bought it?
Ok, sure, you can have this point, if you really want it. My argument wasn't this and I don't think they will do that again, it will be there day one; they just weren't ready when HD2 launched.

Simple. Your conspiracy theory forgot to mention that the two accessories(disc drive and stand) that might actually be a necessity to some are compatible with the Pro but the completely optional one is not and you're claiming some kind of diabolical plan.
Simple? You said we were getting stands and disc drives for free. Yeah, makes tons of sense.

You kind of sound like an apologist for their anti-consumer practices. "Sure, we might need to buy new plates for the Pro, but at least they aren't making us buy new stands and disc drives, too." It's sad.

Look at the pictures of the plates and the console side by side. There is no other reason for this than greed.

Goddammit man, it's just plates for fuck's sake, you know, 4 pieces of plastic, give it a rest already...

I could understand if people were bitching about the drive not being compatible or what have you, but this ?

You're still not explaining the stand and drive though. You wrote an episode of bad TV with plot holes and no ending. Back to work
