Games being both Vita and PS4 has at least a small upside for vita -- ps4 owners that love game X might realize 'hey, I can play this on the go?' and pick up a vita. I generally don't even bother reading/researching games for consoles I don't own. I hear names for Xbox One games for example and that's all they are to me - names - because I know I'll never own one. I'm sure people avoid researching vita games for the same reason, so crossover (both indies from PC and PS4 games) could actually be a good thing.
Obviously, super well publicized exclusives would be better, but I'm just saying cross-platform isn't all bad when one has the benefit of mobility.
I honestly did not know that a full game install is mandatory. Wow.
It really shoots up the cost for this thing. I'd rather by a 2TB model than swapping it on my own. The 500GB is going to get more and more insufficient once last gen console retires.
But then again, if there is a 2TB SKU the price tag would be ghasly
You really don't need to worry too much about upgrading the ps4 hd right away in my opinion. I like to have a lot of games installed (heck, my vita 64 is long full) but I've never really had an issue with ps4.
There are a couple reasons:
1) While I like to keep lots of 'psn' games on it, I only need so many AAA games at a time. I tend to beat/plat those and move on, unlike games like Resogun that I come back to a lot.
2) Installs are FAST. I mean, if you get up, put a disc in, go sit down, arrange yourself, pick up your controller, fix the volume... your game is probably ready to boot up and go. Games keep installing for awhile, obviously, but the core files necessary to get going are fast. I never really feel the need to have all my ps4 games installed at the same time (whereas i'd kill for a 1T vita mem card so I could have everything installed).
Obviously, different people are different... I just don't think a larger hd for PS4 is nearly the priority a 32/64 is for most vita owners.
And the game would still run without the disc? I mean OK granted installing is faster, but if I'm gonna give up the same size as digital I may as well buy it digitally.
Jeebus I shudder to think what the digital size of MGS5 will be and I'D Have to dl that game twice once on my PS4 and again on my laptop.
Yeah. There's just a lot of benefits to having a game on HD rather than disc -- speed of data retrieval, mainly. Long term, it's probably better for your system too.
It really depends on whether you like to have games on your shelves, or like to beat and resell. I don't care about my shelves, but I do resell, so digital is rarely for me for AAA games (there are exceptions, I just sold NFS and bought digitally because I'll keep playing it and I made cash off the deal).
