PlayStation Says It Was a MLB's Decision to Put MLB The Show 21 on Xbox GamePass at Launch

IMO it was always a one side decision like it was a one side decision to bring the game to Xbox.
MLB forced the hand... or you do the port or you won't have the licence anymore.
After that MLB themselves discussed the deal with Microsoft.

MLB has the rights over the name... they do what they want.

BTW It won't be surprise to me if MLB already had the deal with MS before go talk with Sony that the game should be Multiplatform now.

No you're to blame for this! Yyyyouuuu!!

Forced the hand? I don't think they had to force anything. It's their game.

Sony got bitch slapped hard. I have no idea why their lawyers didn't see this coming a year ago when they supposedly negotiated for a multiplatform release with MLB.

I bet the execs at Xbox couldn't contain their laughter when this deal was dumped onto their desks.

But then what would Studio San Diego do? MLB The Show has been their bread and butter for 15 years.

Exactly, if sony said no to game pass deal, doubt mlb would have have taken the licence over it, jim rayan has no vision or understanding of the playstation brand, he only cares about money.

Of course it was. Sony would never even develop the game for Xbox, much less putting on Game Pass. I am still remember when they said that they were suprised that MS did not pull off Minecraft from Playstation platform..

But also of course it is Sony's decision not to put the game on PS+ or PS Now day one. But I wonder how long will it take for somebody to start blaming MLB for not having the game on PS+.

Sony learned that the game was coming to Game Pass the same day everybody else did.

Their reaction when they saw the news,

Oh My God Omg GIF

We figured as much. Though this is very unlike Sony to come out and explain things in response to chatter on the internet forums and Reddit. Very interesting!

I thought this was obvious. I don't know why people were directing their anger at Jim Ryan.

Still not a good look for Sony even with those circumstances though, when it's $70 on one console and no additional cost with gamepass.

If I was Sony I would be unsure if to bother keeping the license /developing the game. It may not be as bad as people are making it out to be....but it is a PR nightmare.

Simpler than that:
_ Sony had an exclusivity deal for x years with MLB
_ that contract is ending, both parts gathered to renegotiate the conditions
_ Sony doesn't give what MLB wants for the license exclusivity renewal
_ the game goes multiplat but both parts agree, and sign a contract, for Sony to continue developing the game.

... Is it really that hard to guess what happened?

Has anyone suggested otherwise?. The only people who have blamed Sony are a few overly passionate Sony fans who wanted to blame Jim with this.

All of this is free marketing for the game. Most of the sales are on PlayStation so Sony is getting their money anyway.

And plenty of Xbox fans that said it was Jim's fault. I've seen what happened in that thread.

Edit: It was this thread.

I'm a Sony fans and posted the exactly what the OP confirms.
It was inclusive obvious to me.

But there are a thread here with a lot of non-fans saying the opposite... so who knows?

Sony got dunked on with a masterful move by Microsoft and the only real negative consequence for Playstation is a wave of extremely bad PR fueled by console warrior brand loyalists and concern trolls.
So yeah, both Ryan and Hulst are probably really pissed, together with marketing, but if we see heads rolling for this in Sony it's gonna be in the legal dept. and future contracts for shared platform projects will be signed to prevent such things to happen.
