Is Batman like the VR show case? Just wondering because I've got $20 to spend and it seems so short. Granted I spent $30 on Rez and don't regret it at all.

Right now I'm leaning hard on buying Thumper but if Batman is the way to go, I might get it instead.

Do you have move controllers? It's a bit short but with move it's amazing, you really feel like you are Batman! Still my favourite vr game of those I've played

Edit: It took me more than 1 hour to do the main story. And with the riddler stuff it's even longer. I thought it was priced well since it's not so expensive and have way higher production value then anything else

Do other headsets use a mic? The playroom VR use of it in the monster game is hilarious.

Yes, the Vive and Rift both have microphones in them. It's kind of a required thing for social VR. Off the top of my head I can't think of any games that use them for non-communication purposes though.

Downloaded some VR porn because I had to, man the scale is way off. It's like snoo snoo shit.

All of the VR video content has been way out of wack with the scale.

Rush of Blood is the perfect Halloween game but it's getting tough. I need a nail gun or something. LOL.

I think the honeymoon is over for me. I enjoyed experiencing "real" VR for the first time and seeing others do the same, but dragging this thing out all the time and dealing with the wires and camera placement... it's more than I want to do when I just want to kick back and enjoy a game. I'm not swearing off the technology or the system itself, but I set it aside for the time being to replay Mario 64 and I feel like I'm having a lot more fun. YMMV.

I think that's really more of just a balanced view. World of Final Fantasy pulled me back to traditional TV gaming, but I'm a big fan of JRPGs and Japanese games in general, so FFXV and The Last Guardian are still big ticket games for me.

However, stuff like Batman and upcoming games like Robinson: The Journey are still pretty compelling arguments for what VR can do that regular display-based games can't.

Guys, any impressions on Windlands? Thanks. Going to sleep now... midnight over here, VR dreams probably

Yeah it's worth a look but be mindful if you get motion sickness. I tried it with the comfort settings but it just doesn't feel as fluid. Adjusting the xy sensitivity helps a bit.

The experience in general is pretty cool, it's has a kind of Mario 64 vibe to it too. Getting around the environment by jumping and swinging is good fun. The puzzle element is in how you traverse around the world to get the collectables and it makes for an interesting experience. I reached the top of one of the game worlds and saw a stone tablet collectable really far below on a platform. I thought what the hell and took a leap of faith, successfully landing where I needed to be. Such an amazing feeling flying through the air like that. I would put it up there with my favourite VR games to date.

Anyone got the POWER A Charge & Display Station? If so, any impressions?

I got one on launch day and overall I am very happy with it. Holds the controllers great, has a great spot for me to put my headphones on the top (inside the headset band), and has remained standing despite me frequently taking the headset on and off of it.

My one complaint is that the part that holds the front of the headset up relies on the friction between the material that sits on your forehead and the plastic of the stand to keep the headset from slipping down. This doesn't always work great so it slides down a bit and doesn't look as good, but it's really just a cosmetic complaint. Functionality wise, wouldn't change anything.

Can Sony somehow get the Viva Piñata license and make a VR sequel to Trouble in Paradise? Phil and Shuhei need to get together and make this happen.

Bit jealous. I have amazon.ca's prime and mine says "Arriving 16 Nov - 18 Nov". I don't really mind the wait though in this case.

Tracking updated, looks like I'll have it Wednesday. Of course the only time I've ever gotten a game early is the time I'll be on a business trip all week... at least I'll have it Friday when I get home and can play over the weekend. I'll post impressions if no one has it by then.

Bought Kismet.

It's pretty, but wtf a tarot and astrology game?!?

The developers have said they don't consider it a game, which is why it's in the experience section. Did you not know what you were buying?

I Expect You To Die looks like fun, and I'll probably pick up O My! Genesis. I played the demo on the Asian PSVR demo disc and it was a ton of fun. Oasis's games have so far been reasonably priced, so I'm hoping that trend continues. Also thinking of picking up Weeping Doll, but with Robinson coming out soon, and FFXV at the end of the month, I may have to pass on that.

The Superhypercube demo is up on the NA store finally.

It's really fucking cool. I still can't justify $30, but I want it even more than I already did beforehand.

Weeping doll takes 45-90 minutes (depending on how good you are with escape room type of puzzles). At half the price of an actual escape room. I think that's fine.

If they were 2D panoramas then you're doing it wrong.
If you want to get an idea of what it should look like (but SFW and with horrible video quality) then check out the Supertalent stuff on Vrideo.

Want to bet your neogaf account on it? Say the word and I'll scribble your name on a post-it and tack it to my PSVR helmet. I don't see what's so outlandish about my post as to warrant the detective work and a call out.

its okay. I'd wait for $15-20. It has almost no game modes outside of the default game.

I wonder what the demo is like. The game has not much depth, it just keeps going. I'm assuming its a timed game?

Nope, according to this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSVR/comments/57n7by/free_demos_for_super_hyper_cube_ace_banana_mortal/

I went to check PS Japan blog and it seems they only have 5 demo (Rez/Rigs/VR Worlds/Tumble/DriveClub in the disc wow

Here's my post from earlier in the thread:

Thanks for the replies!
My friends don't have VR :(
Add me: BOL-EvilSplinter (UK for online games, add me anyway for leaderboards I guess).

I think the weapons on each rig are important, but stats definitely matter too.

Personally I'd avoid anything with a Warhead - OP for the bots but too hard to be accurate with it. Rail and impulse launcher are also tricky but can be used well.

Personal favourite: Blood Bank (Vampire Sentinel). I don't like the Sentinel jump but this rig is too good. Good armour, fastest sentinel, great weapons (beam + rail), best ability. This rig is pretty overpowered.

Good all rounder: Painkiller (Engineer Mirage). Mirage have the easiest/best jumping ability, and this rig has decent speed and armour. The ability is very useful for supporting teammates who are in a fight (or running for a touchdown/powerplant goal). Only thing that lets it down is the slightly weak firepower (machine gun + homing missiles).

Best for end zone: Bad Medicine (Thief Hunter). No contest. Small, decent weapons (impulse launcher and I think machine gun), fast as hell, plus the thief ability is just made for end zone. Put some Engineer teammates on and you'll be unstoppable.

Best if you're aim is impossibly good: The Engineer Tempest (Angel I think?). Can fly, heal teammates, and has dual rail guns. Crazy damage but hard to use (I can't).

If you do trials (which are quite fun/useful training modes) use the Vampire rigs. Usually fastest in class and all have a beam weapon (or two) which is all you need for targets. The instant heal is also useful for the "kill all rigs" trials but bare in mind they have low armour as well.

And all abilities I haven't mentioned are trash :D although weapons/stats are more important anyway.

Love Rigs! Shame the online is quite dead, it seems.

I appreciate the in depth response. Blood bank was my first rig actually haha. And I was considering a thief for endzone

The only reason I haven't gone online yet is I don't think I'm anywhere near good enough yet. I wouldn't want to cost my team the game

I hate reading things like this because it plants a seed of doubt in my head, lol. I'm enjoying the shit out of it but I got it on Saturday so the honeymoon is still in effect. The biggest thing I fear is lack of compelling software going forward and Sony dropping support too fast.

I need everyone to still be happy with their purchase. ;)

I've had it since launch. VR feels like another genre nowadays...

Sometimes I genuinely just want to come home and game that way and that way only. It is more tiring and involving than just holding a controller, but it's part of my routine already, especially when people come over

For what anecdotal evidence is worth, it appears to have a really good attach rate, which is exactly what we need to spur development and support. To date, I have:

Playroom
Vr worlds
Bound
Catlateral damage
Keep talking...
VEV
Rigs
Until dawn
Tumble
Wayward sky

Which is more than I wanted to spend haha. And yet I still want more VR games. I will probably get another one when my credit comes in.

By the way the demo for tumble VR doesn't show you everything the game offers. I loved the ps3 game and this is better than I pictured a VR version would be. The environments that it places you in are really cool too.

im still happy with my purchase. I've been onboard since midnight on day one and it's still not old. I find myself playing it way more than traditional 2D games. I wish every game had a VR option or mode :)

This is a totally sensible post. While it's amazing, it is a bit of a hassle every time you want to play. For me it's not that big of a deal because I only play games in "honeymoon phases."

Well, you guys are making me feel better, haha! I actually really love it so far and with my setup, the wiring isn't much of an issue at all. I have it pretty clean.

I have a tendency to overthink things and make it feel like a burden when I should just enjoy it when there are things to enjoy and go back to normal playing when there's not. The funniest is part is just prior to making my original post, I was thinking about how awesome PSVR has been. I know I'm not making a lot of sense here. :p

Anybody get sick from the Until Dawn demo, but was ok with the full game? I finally got a chance to try it out this afternoon and I've been feeling sick for the last 5 hours. At this point, I may just return the unopened copy back to the store.

Oh yeah, I had zero taking issues. I think the rollercoaster drops are what did me in.

Well, I tried PSVR again at a BestBuy. I had tried it a year ago, but I think the hardware is a bit different (the screen?) Anyway, impressions quickly.

Headset:

- The resolution is pretty damn blurry, but it's noticeability is context dependent. When you are really into the game, you don't notice it as much.
- The move controllers aren't great. They track well, but they vibrate in-game no matter what. Compared to the vive where it's much more accurate and the in-game models don't vibrate.
- There is a 'film' effect on the screen. When you look around, it's like there is a film that doesn't move and stays in place. Best way to compare it are eye floaters. I don't remember Vive having that effect.
- Thing is still damn comfortable.

Batman:

- I played batman, and was pretty impressed with the demo. There were certain moments where I really felt "in" the world, like when the elevator moved, it really felt like I was going down.
- Little things like being able to grab objects and play the piano really push the immersion.
- Even though it wasn't a 'game', it was still more enjoyable than rigs.

Then I tried RIGS

- Controls are, sluggish? The whole game felt slow and disappointing.
- When sitting and playing with a controllers, the immersion is not nearly the same. It sorta re-affirmed my agreement that good VR is dependent on room-scale and hand tracking.
- I don't like the game.

There are a lot of videos online for finding the right distance between pupils by moving the setup tool closer than your eyes, then moving it out step by step until you can more clearly read small text at a distance. I can't really see how Best Buy can have a setting that suits everyone. Even the default setup is going to be a compromise that suits some and doesn't suit others. If it is wrong, stuff is blurry.

This is not.

A discussion about PSVR should be a bit more extensive; outside of a shitpost about demos and resolution then saying they're going to pack it away because; to play Mario 64. Once set up, the camera never gets moved. I haven't touched mine. It just sits under the tv.

Even if you buy 1-2 games. There's plenty of experiences to be had on the platform; from allumette, demos to invasion etc. Which most people who own a headset have discussed. Even the free playroom demo offers plenty of play.

I refuse to believe someone would spend $400+, then more money for games and then pack it away because of honeymoon periods (its been 2 weeks). Sell it then if they think its so average.

Yeah I think it let me get like 9 holes into the game and then a wall just comes toward you and breaks.

I just really like how it looked and played. But yeah, ever since the $30 price tag became known, I've been against buying it.

I gave mine to my brother. Watching him and his kids play with it was a lot more fun than I had with it in my lonely little room. Playroom is brilliant in that it takes something people have stereotyped as an escape from reality and makes it a social experience. I still have my Rift for lonely little room experiences.

the game starts the same everytime unless I've missed it. There's no playmodes on the start screen. You see leaderboards etc el and then the option to just start the game.

and then the game always starts with you as a single cube and you start from 0 everytime (aka starts slow) and you have to go through about 20+ walls before it gets compelling with the slots you can fit through.

After about 10 tries I was like like "mmm, how is this $30?"

Trying to imagine how big the room would have to be to play RIGS without sitting down using a controller. Think they'd need some purpose-built arenas. Obviously one for each stadium.

Of course I kid, but I don't really see at all how RIGS could be improved by room-scale VR - you're strapped inside a huge mech, surely seated makes the most sense...?

Seriously, RIGS is so fucking good. The online has made it really hard for me to go back to single player. It's still not heavily populated, but I'm at least regularly getting 2v2 and 3v2 going on, so things are improving. The gameplay is just so incredibly well done.

Question about Headmaster's multiplayer play:

There's only one set of challanges to play, with 4 or so 'coming soon!' signs. Do those need to be unlocked in single player, or does coming soon mean 'wait for an update'?

Room scale in general just seems like a very bad idea for actual gameplay. The improved accuracy would be great for any system/game, i.e., having a second PS4 camera or light room type enclosures to make Move controllers super accurate. But actually having games require room scale to be playable wont work with 95% of people. How many people can actually have rooms dedicated to VR? If you have a home theater dedicated room, it will likely have rows of seating throughout the room. In a living room, bedroom, etc there will definitely be lots of furniture and knickknacks around. It can be difficult enough to convince the wife to go for a home theater and/or mancave/game rooms, just imagine trying to also throw in a dedicated VR room.
