Point n Click Adventure GAF 2015 - Back with a vengeance

Really, the most traditional part of the games they make/publish is the graphics. Although they all stay true to the classic "style"(in that they feel like P&C games made in the early nineties), most if not all of them try something new or innovative.

Primordia is fantastic by the way, the best non-in-house game wadjeteye published (Blackwell series is as a whole is better, though the very first game in that series is slightly dated - though still great). Resonance loses its way a bit at the end, but the ride is a hell of a lot of fun.
Another thing to mention about Resonance is the memory mechanic. It is a really enjoyable way to solve puzzles and works well with the four characters.

I agree with basically everything Sir_Crocodile says about Wadjet Eye so it looks like I should buy A Golden Wake after all.

(Primordia is excellent)

Agreed.

I should say that Golden Wake is probably the easiest game they published - probably took me less time then The Shivah. But I liked the story and how they handled some of the puzzles. Definitely worth playing, but your mileage may vary on whether you think it's worth £10. I think it just about is.

If I ever make a point and click I'd make a space sci-fi one about mechs/mecha because in the thousands of PnC adventure games I don't think anyone's made one where you move around in giant robots (as well as being able to exit them and move around on foot) and that still makes me sad ;_;

The latest chaper in The Dream Machine does some neat stuff with character scale so you might be interested in that. No mecha though.

Isn't that true of every genre though

Where's Mecha Cooking, Mecha Football, Mecha Wrestling, etc, etc

At least we have metal marines for strategy. so good

I take it Metal Slader Glory doesn't count?

Hm, just finished 1954 Alcatraz and it was fun albeit kind of short. Interesting premise although you could definitely feel the rushed-ness towards the end. Items that you never even used and all. I think I got the game on humble or maybe a really cheap deal on Steam, can't remember but it was worth whatever I paid for it.

Definitely play Primordia if you haven't already. Great game.

If you like their other games I would say it's worth checking out. It's not their best by any means, but I enjoyed it.

Quest for Infamy $1.89 for the next 19 hrs. Indie Gala monday deal.

Got the bundle just for this - i know i said i wanted to try p&c games again earlier and got some really cool suggestions.

Am i better holding off and trying one of the others suggested or is this going to be ok to start with?

It's a good game, but you should be aware that Quest for Infamy is more of a P&C/RPG mix in the vein of Quest for Glory.

If that's not what you wanted to be playing, my top three recent suggestions would be:

Or if you never played it the first time round, one of the all time greats(and my personal favourite):

Cheers m8 - maybe will have a quick go then and see how it feels.

Grim Fandango is by far the most acclaimed adventure game I have never completed. I have played it, but various things (mainly computer problems and compatibility issues) got in the way of me finishing it.

It's crazy to think that Day of the Tentacle is my favorite videogame of all time, yet I have not played through Grim Fandango. January 27th can't come soon enough.

I find dott a lot better then grim personally. Not sure grim would even top ten for me due to the weak puzzles, while dott is incredible in every facet of a p&c game.

Grim Fandango doesn't have "weak puzzles", wtf? Not sure if they are the bestest ever or anything, but they are fairly clever and not too obscure.

That reminds me that I should've bought Grim Fandango off US PSN by now @_@
Gonna get a $20 PSN code later today.

Was reminded of The Longest Journey. Now that's an adventure game with obscure puzzles... or was it just me?

I've been a gamer for almost 30 years, not only that but I've been an Adventure gamer that whole time. Even the non-Adventure games I love are those with the strongest Adventure elements.

The obsession began with my Atari ST computer and the Sierra Adventure game series. I am still waiting to get access to Gold Rush and Codename: Iceman from GOG. These were hard games for a child, but I always loved games which emphasized things other than combat. Though, I did love games like Quest for Glory, which tried to marry the two. At the time you had your arcade shooting games and your RPG combat games, but it was the more pacifistic Adventure games which held my interest the most. It was the stories and atmospheres that I most fell in love with.

Then I really fell in love with the Lucasarts games, specifically because you could not die and you could not lose. The freedom to explore at your leisure and not have to worry about dying or failing was probably one of the single best ideas in game design. The Hand of Fate, a Westwood game adopted this idea and made the Kyrandia series much, much better.

It was a sad time in the early 2000s where the genre was pretty dead, but I realized at the time, that Adventure elements survived in the popular games of the time. Action-Adventure games and RPGs retained some of the elements I enjoyed about the genre, so I did not give up hope that one day they might return in force.

Fast forward to today and the Adventure genre is alive and well. Not the shining beacon of popularity that it once was, but still alive nonetheless and I am very pleased to see this community here and consider myself a part of it.

For those interested, the following games are on sale on GOG.com:

  • Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail
  • Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude - Uncut and Uncensored - more like 'inspired by' an adventure game, contains mini-games and action-elements.
  • The Inner World
  • Montague's Mount - Not point-and-click. An adventure game in the vein of Dear Esther, ie. First-person exploration.

Wow, 3 bucks for Leisure Suit Larry 1-6, plus $1.79 for number seven is ridiculously cheap. I already own the games on disc but I could not pass up this deal.

Thanks for the heads-up randomengine.

AGW is a bad game, with its only redeeming quality being the unusual setting.

The plot and the progression of the story are bad (straight from the beginning - see the event that puts the story in motion), technical execution is mediocre at best (some animations are nice), puzzles are bland and minigames would be a nice addition if they weren't so easy.

Not worth the price.

Glad to see you all are looking forward to that game too. The character art especially on the main girl is so colorful and all. Game wasn't even on my radar until the other day and it's been in production since 2012? Makes me wonder what else I'm missing out on lol

Last year I posted that I like to see the classic RE games as Horror Adventure games and soon I will begin playing my first RE game after all these years of seeing my brother play them :P
