Shinobi: Art of Vengeance review thread - Sega’s comeback continues

If I recall correctly you take damage from touching the enemies in Bloodstained (at least Curse of the Moon) and SOTN too. Not sure about Monster Boy.

No stun or damage from enemies from touching them is a deliberate design choice. This design works better in beat em ups like Streets of Rage.

The developer should have adjusted the gameplay accordingly.
Worked fine for me here. Beat it today and it was great. Boss fights are really fun. Game gets to chaotic to let enemies touching you cause damage and honestly it's a dumb mechanic I never liked. Just touching an enemy shouldn't damage you they should have to hit you with something.

Working through the game now to get all the collectibles.

We like different kinds of game design. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm glad you are enjoying the game!

They sort of did, if you're surrounded by 7 enemies on a small platform. Hit on touch would be terrible here. It doesn't work with the enemy numbers and objects. There are enough hazards as is. And you won't be able to run past every single thing.

Yeah, touching would be a nightmare. On top of projectiles and everything they can throw at you.

Didn't have to be damage but knock back (for you and the enemy) on touch, just like the early Shinobi/Rolling Thunder games where you got one hit killed but only from actual attacks, not just touching (for the most part, some ninjas and shit coming at you with swords ahead might kill on touch from all or certain angles only). Similar to the jumping on different levels/foregrounds/backgrounds it made for a very unique feel that later stuff just don't have and are like any other platform action game, heck this is almost more Muramasa Lite than Shinobi. Still a good game but hardly distinct.
