I haven't been playing much but I did catch 5 Pokemon at my gym while doing cardio.

Not out in Japan or Europe yet. Europeans can at least tinker and get it working all fine, but in Japan there is no map data so all you can do there is catch the starter.

We need like an FAQ or something for these questions.
-Niantic has said they plan to add trading
-You can't choose your Eeveelution
-Only the first 151 Pokémon are included so far, but there does not appear to be any way to catch Ditto, Mew, Mewtwo, or the legendary birds
-You can disable AR during battles so you don't look like a creep (see the switch at the top right when you are in a Pokémon encounter). This also saves some battery and makes Pokémon easier to catch
-Yes Pikachu is really a starter option
-The footsteps next to Pokemon silhouettes indicate relative distance
-Spin the image disc to make items drop from pokéstops
-Many Pokémon have a chance to spawn anywhere, but their chance to appear is variable depending on environment (i.e. water Pokémon appear more often near water)
-You get to pick your team if you tap a gym after you reach trainer level 5; you do not need to be in range of the gym
-You cannot recover pokéballs that miss the target

-There is a bug where gym monsters get stuck on 1hp and you cannot defeat them, this can be remedied somewhat by not spamming taps, but there is still a chance it will happen to you (yes, we all know it sucks)
-If your Pokémon do not show up when the game loads, they haven't disappeared, but data may not be loading from the server
-Pay attention to the size of the color ring around Pokémon, the smaller it is the easier they will be to catch
-Pay attention to the color of the ring: green is easy, yellow is moderate, red is hard
-Yeah Magikarp actually requires 400 candies to evolve your eyes aren't playing tricks on you
-No one seems to agree on how exactly stats are influenced by height or weight or how max CP is decided so right now your guess is as good as anyone's (this includes whether or not it is best to power up or evolve first)
-Max CP for all your captured Pokémon is raised with your trainer level
-The game does not track steps toward egg hatching if the screen is off or the app is in background
-The game will not deliver notifications for nearby pokéstops, gyms, or Pokémon if the screen is off or the app is in background
-If you're moving too fast (i.e. Driving), you will not be able to add steps toward egg incubation (although you will inexplicably be able to do everything else)
-Moving grass may not always reveal a Pokémon
-Random encounters may occur without moving grass, even if you remain still
-Again, yes, Team Mystic is the best team

I've heard it might be determined by the second move they have when you catch them, so you can at least tell what it's going to become when you evolve it.

I was able to register. I was inputting my son's birthday information and since he is only 7 years old it only gave me the option of using a PTC account.

Have yet to see a Scyther, psychic pokemon are everywhere here. Anything else is a bit rarer.

Went out to get lunch with my folks and afterwards spot two guys just loitering in the parking lot looking at their phones, tell my mom I figure they're playing it. My parents take off and I start fiddling with my phone trying to find anything, catch one and they walk up to me and ask "You get the Clefable?" This game I swear. Gonna get us to a utopia or a pod people like future. Either way I'm good

Just caught one and was l like, "well this isn't happening for some time". Only to see a gym down the street with a Gyarados already... I was in total disbelief.
This app is unreal so far. I just spent the last two days with the wife cruising to different pokestops and gyms around town. The best part is seeing locations (like a cemetery) that are normally deserted, now filled with dozens of people just in search of items and lures. It's a surreal experience hanging out at a grave catching Pokemon and hanging out with people you've never met and damn is it awesome.
Loving the experience so far... Other than the 1HP glitch.
How long until companies start paying Nintendo to make their location a gym?

So im level 7 and have 47 pidgey candy, should i evolve several pidgey's for the exp or evolve a pidgeotto at 50 candy?
I thought those little grass animations meant a Pokemon was right there. Whoops
You sure this isn't just battery saver mode? It activates when you put the phone in your pocket upside down.
From what I heard they're potential spawn areas but doesn't actually mean there will be a pokemon there unless the finder says there's one close.

Pidgey costs less candies and I think the evolution bonus is the same no matter what tier it is, so Pidgey is more cost effective.
