Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

I saw a level 8 gym stacked with the most powerful group of pokemon I ever saw, I think all around or above 1500, including a 1800+ Snorlax. They still got toppled within a couple of hours. If you're in a busy area it seems completely pointless trying to get a gym.

It's pretty pointless trying to HOLD a gym, but getting one for your team still gives you a good chunk of exp and gives you the daily reward. I like the system, it makes it most rewarding if a gym constantly changes hands.

UGHHH 3 of us hunted down this Slowbro by following the steps... My friend catches it and its CP is 935, meanwhile this is what i get

My girlfriend's city is a Go wonderland with stops every 30 seconds and some so close together that there are 24/7 pokego parties going on with 4 lures at once at the same park.

My area is a desolate wasteland with one stop within walking distance and two gyms. Nothing but rats and birds.

I can basically only play this game when I go to visit her.
Yup. City or bust really :(

I found two in a 25min walking distance today in the middle of nowhere but it's so not worth it. However I walk there every day so it's a nice bonus I guess, but like he said, I feel taxed to purchase balls since I can't get them otherwise, at least not many unless I sit still for hours at a stop which kinda defeats the purpose.

Just remembered I really did get that Scyther last night and felt warm and fuzzy. Gonna wait til I level up to see how high the 3 candy can bump him and then see about installing him in one of my local Gyms. Maybe the Ikea is still up for grabs.

Yesterday I was supposed to be out farming Magikarp in my canal all day and kinda forgot and only got 4. Gotta grab a bunch tonight.

2nd day in a row that CBC Radio talked about the game during my drive home. Today was more about how the game is destined to raise awareness and interest in AR.

Being in Canada, they mentioned ispokemongoavailable.com as a source to keep track and get notification of availability in your country.

This makes me anxious to actually start battling in gyms. I work on the Vegas Strip and the 4 gyms closest to me probably change control at least once an hour. It's sort of insane.

Caught a 563 Kingler in the middle of nowhere, hatched a 315 Pikachu from a 2km egg, and caught a 291 Dratini that randomly appeared in a park that normally gets Staryu at best. Good day!
Nice! I woke up to a Kingler on my tracking meter but never found it. Water Pokémon are super rare in the Temecula CA region.

Man, turning the AR off makes the game much more smooth. The game almost never lags when trying to enter an encounter and I haven't had any freezes since turning it off. I was getting them constantly with it on. I'll use it every once in awhile but I can live seeing the fake environments.

Also, does anybody else have absolutely no interest in doing any gym stuff? Cause I couldn't care less at the moment lol

capturing a gym gives me one hell of a sense of pride. Unfortunately they don't last long without a good group of people helping to level it up. I like the team work aspect but all my friends are out of my city.

Hmmmm... so if I can login fine with a new Pokemon Trainer Club account, but my google account doesnt let me login anymore... could that google account now be banned? Or are there Google authentication issues? Inofficial region here.

A Growlithe appeared in my radar after a great morning of pokemon catching. I left my house and walked across the whole neighborhood but never found it :(

However, I found something better

She looked like she was abandoned and I didn't have the heart to leave her there so I took her home :)

if you're super worried about losing the gym you can collect the reward immediately after taking it, then take it again the next day and do the same.

Sometimes random water types spawn in my circle at night (Seel, Horsea, Krabby) and I get really confused because there's no water for a good mile around my neighborhood.

Except the neighbor's pool.

Okay, that's probably not why, but that's what I'm going to go with.

Yeah, the ideal thing to to is capture/fortify a few (especially if you have a group that can take them down and build them up quick with you), put your mons in and grab the bonus once you feel like you're holding the most you can that day. Because attacking is so favored it's not all that practical or beneficial to try and hang onto a gym for dear life, and to me it also always makes it much more satisfying when it IS standing hours later because you put in a strong/logical team.

I think the other way around, where defending was the easier task, would make play more strategic and less casual which I know a lot of people here would enjoy, but I think ultimately I prefer it this way and I'm pretty sure the majority of the gigantic playerbase would get frustrated with gyms that were unable to be toppled for weeks at a time.
Subbing. Still figuring everything out.

holy shit, just to be clear, you were out hunting pokemon and found and took in an actual cat?

Their CP potential. It moves as you power them up. When you evolve a Pokemon their CP will increase dramatically based on your trainer level, but the position of the bar along the arc will remain the same.

Does this mean that it's better to evolve, then power up? (I saw this before but didn't know the reasoning behind it).

Also, if I have a fully evolved pokemon and it's CP indicator is already positioned way over to the right, I can only increase it that small extra amount, ever?

Not sure if there's a better way besides waiting as you level up and find higher level base Pokemon.

That means you can only increase it that little at this current trainer level. As you level up, you can raise them to higher CP.

Had no idea you still got rewards. Good to know there's still a point to trying to battle and win.

Anyway how good is it where you all are? It's great here. I feel bad for people who run out of pokeballs and can barely find pokemon. It's like this in every direction for miles in NYC, stops with lures everywhere:

Teared up man. You are an amazing person. Every time I see a stray cat my heart sinks.

Wishing your new buddy nothing but fun times.

Here in downtown SF there are a lot of Clefairys for some reason... Caught my first one earlier and already seen a few within 30 minutes. Lol

Word on the street is that the Presidio is overrun with bulbasaur, and the USF park is where to find dratini, dragonair, and dragonites.

There were lapras sightings near the ocean beach windmills. Also tends to be ton of lures.

I crawl inner richmond clement and balboa. This neighborhood runs blue. Doduos, rhyhorns, crabby, and poliwags everywhere. Endless mankey in GG park.

Whole pokeball at stop is a stupid mechanic. Outside a big city its self defeating (Walk 5km for this egg, with nothing else in sight but pokemons you cant catch or sit still at this one stop 5min away for a few hours and farm it) of the purpose the game was founded on. To go outside and catch pokemon.

I feel a daily login of maybe 50-150 pokeballs would do the trick and just leave pokestops close to gyms for healing and revive/hp pickups or something.

Currently people in the city got a MASSIVE advantage of tons of pokeballs and lures while anyone outside gets shit on if they try anything as the "grind" is longer due to lack of resources.

Its poor, and feels just like a "outside city tax".

That's awesome. Get her cleaned up and to the vet to make sure she's well, not infested, etc!

Since I'm out of pokeballs I'll talk about some Eevee randomness. I evolved 3 next to a bay and they all evolved into Vaporeon. I was near a firehouse and got a Flareon. Maybe I need to find a power plant for my next one.

Brothers and sisters I need your advice:

How to optimally level up here?

I have some options but I don't really know which one will be the best course:

How to proceed?

For Golbat, I'd say the second. The difference in CP is going to be negligible in the long run (it's higher anyway), but it does have the stronger second attack.

With Poliwag, well, they're basically the same. Might be worth waiting to see if you can catch a higher level CP one in the long run.

Claimed a gym this morning and left my Pidgeotto there. Is there any way to get it back? I have 50 candies and want to evolve it into a Pidgeot.

Does this mean that it's better to evolve, then power up? (I saw this before but didn't know the reasoning behind it).
Kind of. It more means that it doesn't matter either way...

If you don't have enough candy to evolve something but want to actually USE it to fight at that moment, then powering it up makes sense. Otherwise, evolution is way better. Gets you XP, big CP boost, doesn't use Stardust...
Also, if I have a fully evolved pokemon and it's CP indicator is already positioned way over to the right, I can only increase it that small extra amount, ever?
Its maximum CP is determine by your Trainer Level.

Holy shit. There are more stops with Lures than ones without. Goddamnit I wanna go back to NYC. I'll be there in October but the mons are so hot right now ;_;

You giftzan the quapsel until etwicklening the bon bons becomes unheilboen flug wasser.

(I think evolving and powering up the one's with the higher CP is typically the way to go. Evolve the Quapsel first, though. ).
