Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Got all original starters, that's something!

Their stats though....

Haven't had many connecting/stability issues with the servers since yesterday and I'm guessing Ninatic fixed those performance issues by actually disabling the "steps" feature of the Nearby Pokemon functionality. Just guessing...

So is it possible to make real progress in the game without spending real money, or has Nintendo got me by the goolies with this game?

I think it's balanced brilliantly; playing without spending money is entirely possible. At least, it is if you are able to get access to Pokestops frequently enough to accumulate Pokeballs.

I'm seeing a lot of people asking about these Pokémon outlines, but for some reason I haven't noticed ANY "Who's That Pokémon??" jokes.

Please tell me I've just missed them.

Honestly it should be mandatory when asking about the silhouettes to phrase the questions as "WHO'S THAT POKÉMON!?". Like, C'mon.

I feel the same way. I get in within a second and I can actually reliably catch every pokemon I see and activate all the pokestops. The stability has vastly improved.

Not having a good way to track pokemon is a bummer though, but i'm sure these guys at Niantic are busting their fucking asses to get everything running smooth. Can't be easy with hundreds of millions of downloads in a week.

Nice theory. Doesn't sound unlikely. It's a feature that will be querying the server often but it's not critical to the gameplay so disabling it and reduce server load during launch phase is a worthy trade.

Starting with this game only in September so that's why I have to ask:

I can incorporate 3 Pokéstops in my running course. I will pass them 10 times.
That's 30 Pokéstops I can get stuff from. How many pokéballs will I get? Or is it random?

Can you get lures as well at pokéstops?

It's random but also depends on your level

You can get poke balls, eggs, potions, revives and berries afaik

It breaks my heart how buggy this game is. It got too popular too soon I think.

I haven't been getting the freeze bug recently, but my locations are all messed up and it's impossible to track Pokemon because the footsteps are broken.

Yeah, they've probably underestimated how popular the game would be from the get-go and low-balled the ressources of their infrastructure.

With all due respect to Lithuania...

Lithuania before Japan and Canada?!
Lithuania: 3M
Canada: 35M
Japan: 130M

Why is that surprising? Lithuania is a small country with a population of just 3 million. It's not exactly a threat to server stability and can be easily added without killing the game for a day.

Japan, on the other hand... God knows what will happen to the servers if the game will be as successful there as in the West.

Japan: 130M

...so we can expect Go in Brazil (200M) in 2018 at best :( oh well...

If?

How about:
Canada: 35M
Japan: 130M
European Union: 510M

?

Those new countries are obviously rest of the EU + some closely associated countries.
They didn't released the game for he EU countries all at once though. And I except the ratio of player in Japan to be way higher than anywhere else. Won't even be close...

is there any way to earn pokecoins in this game?

When you hold a gym, go to the store page and hit the small shield icon in the top right.
Every 20 or so hours you can cash out on free Pokecoins there, you get 10 coins for every gym you have Pokemon in, as well as a load of dust.

If you hold x number of gyms, you can go to the shop and press the shield icon in the top right corner to claim 10x Pokecoins. Can only do this once per 21hrs though.

Yep, someone also said 10 is the maximum, that would be 100 coins every 21 hours.

Well shit, apparently Japan might have to wait until the end of the month:

http://bylines.news.yahoo.co.jp/shinoharashuji/20160716-00060036/ (Japanese)

It has a quote in English from Niantic's CEO:

They should have known how the servers wild go in Japan. Ingress is big in this country and they know this would also probably be big. That we might get it 3-4 weeks after it released in other countries is just sad.

Interest in the game if it releases by then is going to be gone since waiting for it when reading all the stories of people having fun is just tiring. Hopefully they release earlier, but if not... yeah.

Oh, I misunderstood the point you were trying to make. My bad.

Yeah, well, same/similar legislation in those countries, and enough resources in the area make it a non-brainer to offer it in those smaller countries. With EU moving towards a digital single market anyway, not offering it in the whole of the Union will/could be not allowed in the future. So you'll be seeing a lot more of those filthy Estonian and Lithuanian peasants getting digital goods and services at the same time or earlier than countries such as Canada and Japan.

Officially out now in another 26 countries:
Pokémon GO is available in twenty-six new countries. As of tonight, Trainers living in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland are able to download Pokémon GO from the Play Store or App Store.

Awesome but also servers are on fire

Maaan my town is so boring. I've been for a walks multiple times, going to lured pokestops, and stops that are in big plazas, and there's never anyone playing. At most a couple of kids that looks like playing (that's another thing, the only ones that looks like playing are kids, no adults). Pretty bummed, seems like I'm missing half the experience when I see those crowded meetings around here.

Also, even no matter where I go, it's just pidgies and rats. There's no variation in Pokemons in my town. I mean, I'm not at NYC but it's a 25K people town, it's not that small!.

had to stop playing the last 3-4 days or so. i'd hit 21, and signal is already poorish in my area, so add server stress, pokeball freezing, and broken nearby list and I just wasn't getting much satisfaction out of it. Will be back eventually, but they need to fix stuff.

they definitely need to make the "locator" part better...got a pikachu "3 steps away",but no matter in what direction i went, there was no change..he was still 3 steps away and in the same position compared to the other nearby,in the end i just gave up

Have they just increased the capture difficulty? My pokeball just flying all over the place tonight and when they do hit, the creature just popped out again even though I already give them Razz Berry. Granted they are 200+cp but I never had a problem capturing them with normal Pokeball + Razz Berry prior to tonight.

Edit:

It's been broken for a few days now. I guess they switched it off to lessen the load on the servers.

Actually, I updated from the Play Store and it seems better now.

I wonder if apk's are linked to certain servers. Which means that all the apk's downloaded outside the Play Store might hurt you US players directly. (Sorry)

Is it me or does it seem like the great balls don't help much? Seems like I've had a worse capture rate using the great balls and raspberries compared to just a pokeball on its own.

I'd definitely take a Golem over a Pikachu. Golem will literally destroy Pikachu every time.

In Pokemon Go, maybe, but an event Pikachu with Surf, Modest, 252 Sp.A, and Choice Specs will outspeed and OHKO Golem 100% of the time.

:p

Yea, I came to post the same thing. Seems like I've had a lower capture rate using a Great Ball and Razz berry compared to a standard Poke Ball.
