Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

I wouldn't say that, a certain imageboard I used to visit had details on all the Brawl characters before Serebii did. In fact, Serebii himself seems to get most of his new information from Japanese imageboards anyway.
:O

But yeah, the only reason I "rely" on his site is for fast news like this. Kinda like with Go Nintendo . . . but RMC seems to have more passion for his blog site and only reports news given to him instead of saying he has "inside contacts" that fill him in on the inner workings of Nintendo.

You know what I always thought would be an interesting exercise? Is if the designers behind the 3rd, 4th and 5th generations of Pokemon had the chance to go back to Blastoise, Charizard and Venusaur and redraw them in the newer design, to see how their designs would differ. Not that I'm suggesting they seriously retcon all the old Pokemon designs, just curious to know how it would look.

Ha, looks like my fox theory was correct, except they split it off into a separate Pokemon line instead of branching off of Vulpix.

The Pokemon type (bakekitsune) means most like... Shape-shifting fox? But it could also mean something like monster fox or ghost fox. "Bake" really just means to change - the kanji for "bake" is the root of the word for chemistry, but "bakemono" are monsters and ghosts because they take on many forms.

I like the design pretty well, overall. Zoroark is a bit on the extreme side, but pretty cool overall. It totally looks like it could be Lucario's rival.

They only say he's Dark? 'Cause there seems to be a fire motif going on with them, too, thanks to their hair.

I'm pretty sure they did for Fr/Lg...

I was hoping it would be dark/fire since there's definitely a lack of fire types all around.
Theres only like 5 pure dark types at this point in the games (not adding our new friend).

I really think they should sit down and hammer this shit down . . . because at first it seemed like they were afraid of some types getting to popular but now that seems to have transformed into them just ignoring those types (Fire and Dark being 2. Would like to see more Dragons as well) in favor of lame/ boring/ weak Pokemon of other types like Water or grass.

Bentendo said:
That's be great! Are there any dark/fire Pokémon?
Some dog from the 2nd or 3rd gen :/

It just occurred to me, Genius Sonority must be taking a fucking long time to put out a new Pokemon game, because they're working on the Wii tie-in for the 5th gen, it's so obvious.

And has it already been mentioned how much the little guy looks like Tails? :lol

Houndour.

...aha! I bet you think I'm going to put "EDIT: Beaten" here because two other people already mentioned "Houndoom" before me, but nope, I went different and put Houndour instead! So HAH! HARHAR! AHAHAHAHA

So in the movie doesn't zoroark disguise himself as an evil version of ash or something? Do you think he'll have some sort of move or something that reflects his apparent ability to disguise himself well in the games?

The new Pokemanz looks like an "evolution" of Linoone for me.

Linoone.png

I like it, btw.

New Pokemon looks like a... Pokemon. Nothing amazing about it, but hey, nice to see some new Pokemon, I guess. Gives me a 3rd gen vibe in its design.

With them taking so much time, the new game needs to fucking blow PBR out of the water. Battle Revolution was a shit-tastic rush job just so Nintendo could say the Wii had online at launch [in Japan].

Umm, they did exactly this for FireRed and LeafGreen. The same goes for HG/SS and the gen two pokemon.

They stayed exactly the same, for better or worse.

Uh, no, I meant a COMPLETE redesign. As in, "if they were to make a dragon, a tortoise and a plant/frog thing starter trio this day and age, without any frame of reference from the 1st Generation, how would they design them?" kind of thing. I don't mean simply drawn in the same consistent artstyle.

EDIT: Same to you Wiseblade.

Think about how people look at minigames nowadays though. Was cool then, looks a bit cheap nowadays. I know there was more to Stadium then minigames, but PBR matches most of the battle modes and challenges, and the whole 'play the proper games on your telly' isn't too viable nowadays with the DS.

Incorporating MY pokemon into the minigames was the whole draw though. Like my girafarig that was alternate colored showing up in the Sentret game.

Zoroark's reception doesn't shock me. :/

People said that Lucario looked like a Digimon at first and state side I can only remember it's popularity exploding after the JPN movie was leaked online. I was following him pretty closely back in the early Brawl days when we had lil more then a released e3 Trailer.

Let GS make Colosseum 3, but I think only HAL/EAD can make the real Stadium 3, and as much I FUCKING WANT IT, those guys just ain't interested. :(

Can't we just have both? Stadium 3 and Colosseum 3? :(

Oh, and to GS, let's make this one teeny tiny thing clear...

UPDATE THOSE FUCKING CRIES, if HAL could do it on the N64, then you can fucking do it on the Wii, hell you WERE going to in PBR as that god awesome trailer showed, but you fucking botched your own game up!!

I guess most people are resistant to new pokemon in general, especially if they're humanoid and sinister looking.

Personally, I just want all the new pokemon in 5th gen to finish up the pokemon chains they started in previous games. Better balance all the pokemon so they can all be equally viable for team creation. We're left with pokemon like farfetch'd, dunsparce, qwilfish, corsola, tauros, pinsir, kangaskhan and soooo many others that just can't be competitive because of mediocre stats or there's someone that can do their job a lot better.

I think if they finished up some chains I could get more excited about gen 5. Gen 4 actually did a decent job of adding some chains, like the Magmar and Electabuzz evo's, while adding some awesome pokemon like Drapion and Drifbilm.

Gen 5 should certainly focus more on finishing the roster than expanding, imo.

I can't get into 3D Pokemon console games the way they are.

Its just something about 3D that makes me HATE turn based gameplay. I got the first one for 64 thinking that you could control the Pokemon and run around the battle field with them to have something like the battles in the Anime/ Manga . . . oh how it was to be young and foolish. >_>

I'm not buying a 3D game unless it's real time. :/

I'm still trying to figure out wth is so different about this game to the Devs. I have the odd feeling that that one guy saying something about how he wants to put "action game elements" into the series has something to do with it. But theres so much they can still do with the current set up that IDK what to expect.

I see where your coming from but I disagree. I HATED that the 4th gen had so many "new" Pokemon that were just evols/ pre evols of past Pokemon.

There are always gonna be "lame/ useless/ normal/ arvg" Pokemon and other Pokemon that are more special followed by the Kings and Queens and the legendary ones. I'm OK with that, I don't think ever weakling Pokemon needs a cool, stronger evol.

What I'm MUCH MORE focused on is the lack of Pokemon in certain types. Why soo many water Pokemon with only a hand full of fire types? Why are there so many shit Pokemon in the hand full of fire types? Why are there so few pure dark types?

I would hope they focus on evening out the amount of types over buffing old mons.

Needs to be like Brawl, with 4 attacks, but stats factor in, such as speed etc. so every pokemon could play different. Slider stats for mechanics or what-have-you. Could totally work.

I prefer PokeBeach, but to each his own.

Anyway, I doubt it'd be Light/Dark stuff, considering Dark is already a type.

I usually check Serebii but I never went to PokeBeach until today. I really like their layout.

Quick (off-topic) question since all of the pokemon fans are assembled here. I was thinking of buying Pokemon Platinum. I haven't played a pokemon game since silver but I didn't even get far into that one so the real last one I beat was Pokemon Red.

So can I just jump into Platinum and be a beginner and it's easy to get into or is it at the point now where you need to move your pokemon collection from the last game etc... ?

In other news, Heatran will receive Eruption from Pokemon Ranger 3. A nice move for his Choice sets in general, but factors such as Stealth Rocks, and Spikes will keep it from becoming another Outrage/Draco Meteor situation.

Jump right in. You can only trade over from the 3rd generation games, Fire Red/Leaf Green/R/S/Emerald anyways. Platinum is a good starting point, although I feel HG/SS is much more polished.

SHIT HOW DID I MISS THIS

Looks pretty awesome.

You'll never NEED to transfer Pokemon into new games. They're made to be picked up and played. Transferring Pokemon over is for collecting, team building, fun, etc.

You can jump in Platinum. I actually didn't pay any attention to RSE, and I managed to play Diamond without problems two years ago, and now its the same with Platinum.

Maybe you can miss some new attacks or terms, but there's always FAQs if you need some advice or reference.

I once got into an argument with Serebii in his chatroom. When they were revealing the English names to the Diamond/Pearl Pokemon, there was one guy on his forum that kept making "predictions" and they were all true. So I went in his chatroom and they were talking about English names, so I started telling people what that guy on his forums was saying. Then Serebii came in there and got pissed off that I was spreading this information and said that I'm part of the problem and the reason that we don't get good things, cause I go around and spread leaked information.

Funny thing is, Serebii was revealing one new English name a day, but shortly after our little discourse in the chatroom, he went ahead and revealed all the English names on his site because he said that the information was leaking out anyways. So while he does seem to have some inside information, he's still too arrogant for my liking.

Anyways, I like the designs for Zorua and Zoroark. I don't think they've ever revealed a Pokemon and it's pre-evolution/evolution first before, so it's cool that we get both Pokemon. If the games are releasing this year, then hopefully we'll continue to get 5th gen Pokemon at a decent rate.

I could never thank Nintendo and GameFreak enuff if they gave me a SSB styled Pokemon. Thats what I have been wanting from the DAY I played a demo of SSB64 on some strange Nintendo Demo bus . . . its the reason I got into the SSB series.

But they would have to change the size of so many Pokemon to do this. And I would still want HPs to keep it true to the games. But yes . . . I want this and I could really see it working (there would be tons of "clones" but who cares, custom moves would be enuff). Maybe Sora is making this . . .

This dream game needs to contain every single song from all the old games, with a nice selection of remixed tunes... Yeah 8)

I remember that event. Something along the lines of "we can't have nice things because I agreed to keep the info secret and reveal them once a day and my source would be pissed if I did them all at once and they might not talk to me again BUT THE INFO IS LEAKED SO I'M GONNA DO IT ANYWAY SO TAHT I COULD GET ALL THE CREDIT FOR MY SITEZ!!!"

what i wanted to ask for a long time:

Is there a way, that a level 100 Charmander might be stronger than a level 100 Charizard...in certain areas of its stats?
Im asking that because all the pre-evolvs are pretty much unfun, because I always keep thinking "okay, great, we have a pre-evol form of that Pokemon, it looks cute/awesome...but at level X I will have to evolve it because it has to become stronger. See you never again, cute/awesome pre-evol design".

Is it at useless as im picturing it here?

Your specific example is impossible- Charmanders can't be stronger than Charizards. However, it can be trained to stand a chance. Look up 'EV training'.

In DP, Ponyta is the only wild fire Pokémon except for Slugma/Macargo and Numel/Camerupt in Stark Mountain (Heatran too, I guess)
Platinum adds Magmar and Houndour, but you don't come across them for a while.

IV-bred/EV-trained Charmander could have better stats than random Charizard, but with the same IVs/EVs, the Charizard will always have higher stats than the Charmander (due to its higher Base Stats UIM).
