Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

I always wished (among other things) that characters actually reacted to the pokemon you have....if your character has 6 legendary pokemon, shouldnt he/she be a god in POkemon land?

I really want this next gen Pokemon game to be in 3D. They sort-of did it last time, but it was still mostly sprites. I also want some Pokemon to be free-roaming around the world if possible.

I photoshopped a Dragonball 2 DS screenshot into what I'd like the next-gen Pokemon DS to sort of look like.

Screw nostalgia.

I'll take stylized monster designs like Zorua over Geodudes and Pidgeys any day.
The only think I like more about the old Pokemon are the fire types. 9tails/ Growlithe/ Ponyta lines > ANY non-starter Fire type from any other gen . . . hell, I like more then that shitty 2nd gen fire type starter >_>

Batonpassing Belly-Drum and 50% speed boost on a Magikarp with 1 HP using Flail with Swift Swim = teh lulz

(PS: avy change because of Monster: Ancient Cline loketest! <3)

OMG... how is that possible?!

For some of the people who don't know enough about Pokemon to realize how this was done:

1) Smeargle's Baton Pass attack switchs Pokemon while keeping the stat changes. For instance, any attack or speed raises Smeargle got Magikarp now inherited.

2) In the beginning, I let him hit me so that my Focus Sash could kick in, leaving me at 1 HP. Flail is an attack that does more damage depending on the HP of the attacker. When Magikarp has 1 HP, Flail has a base power of 200, almost as much as Explosion!

3) Belly Drum quadruples the attack of a Pokemon at the cost of half your life. Combined with Substitute, Smeargle is left with 25% of his life and therefore activiates his Salac Berry, which provides a 50% boost to speed.

4) When Smeargle Baton Passes into Magikarp, all of his stat changes are inherited by Magikarp. That brings our friend Magikarp to 388 speed and 520 attack! If that were not enough, Magikarp's ability, Swift Swim, makes his speed double in the rain to an even better 777!

5) The end result is an incredibly fast and strong Pokemon who can spam attacks nearly as powerful as Explosion against my opponent. Hence, the Magikarp sweep. Plus, there is nothing more embarrassing to losing to the long-time considered weakest Pokemon in the game, right?

It's in the description.. ;-)

Already?

goddammit
Oh, believe me . . . there was already worst stuff yesterday.:lol

Hell, I saw what looked like a gay sex doggy style pic using the blacked out figure with a blacked out Lucario a day or 2 after Pokemon Sunday. (Now I guess the person likes the design of Z . . . so he/ she reversed it so that he is raping Lucario or atleast having some painful loving 0_o)

Okay, that above video got me interested in looking at random moves and stuff on Bulbapedia (because I only know the jist of what most moves do, thanks to the very limited descriptions in Gold), and I came across the Pokemon Shedinja... which only ever has 1 HP.

What is the point of it? Is it just something that's completely useless, or does it have some special thing going on?

Why would you do that? said:

It can only take damage from attacks which are super effective, and there are only a few which are. Everything else hits 0.

But Sandstorm and Hail will hurt it. And since many competitive teams based on those two moves..

Shedinja has some usefulness in 2v2 and uber battles.

Being able to wall things like Kyogre is awesome, and Deoxys may choose to setup Spikes, or Rocks. In 2v2 entry hazards are seldom seen, although Tyranitar certainly shows up. He's OKAY in UU, but Rocks are a majority of decent teams.

A niche Pokemon, to say the least.

Okay, this is a real noob question but,

Is it at all possible to collect every single Pokemon from Gen 1 through - Gen 4, on Platinum?

I know you can trade between the DS games obviously, but how do you obtain the ones from the GBA or GB games? Is there a legit way to do this?

You can only import from GBA games, and you do it through Pal Park in the GBA slot in the DS and DS Lite. DSi users are s.o.l.

Once you beat the Elite Four in D/P/Plt, a special "zone" is unlocked that you can connect the GBA games to that you can use to catch your older Pokemon. Plus HG/SS should have the Gen I and II Pokemon too.

Gen I and II have no way of trading with Gen III and IV. Pokémon can go from Gen III to Gen IV through Pal Park, but they can't go back. Your best bet to get close to 493 (Celebi & co are an exception obviously, at least, until we get a wifi event for them), would be Platinum & HG or SS.

What Pokémon can you NOT get with Platinum and a Gen II remake?

Here is a list of all the pokemon not found in platinum

http://www.serebii.net/platinum/missing.shtml

If the pokemon is on that list, you either have to trade from Diamond, Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red or Leaf Green

Even with all of those games, there might be a couple you can't get (unless you beat Gale of Darkness and Colosseum and trade from that, but its not worth it)

Between Platinum and HG/SS though you'll be able to get most of the pokemon, and you can probably just trade people for the rest (except the unobtainables like celebi, deoxys, mew, etc.)

EDIT: Beaten like a bitch :lol

I guess the only way to defend against that would be some sort of spikes or damage over time?

There are tons of ways to defend against baton pass and/or reversal teams that you can employ in a just-in-case scenario. Videos like that are awesome because it demonstrates that simply having the best pokemon statistically aren't going to get it done by default, and that if you want to battle seriously you need to seriously prepare your strategy and potential counter-strategies in advance. There really is no unbeatable team in Pokemon.

What about FR and LG, since those were GBA remakes, can they be moved to Gen 4 with Pal Park? Im not sure how many differences there were in the amount of Pokemin between that and the original GB version (other than grahics of course)

Edit - Looks like my question was answered above.

So I just compiled a list of all the pokemon that aren't in SoulSilver. Cross referencing that list with the missing pokemon in platinum, it looks like the only overlaps are:

Celebi
Kyogre
Jirachi
Deoxys
Glameow
Purugly
Stunky
Skuntank
Phione
Manaphy

plus whichever two gen 1 and gen 3 starters you don't get in SS (and the list should be the same for HG too.. I think)

fake edit: serebii doesn't have manaphy or phione or celebi listed in their missing platinum pokemon section, so its possible they are missing others too (making it possible for my list to be somewhat inaccurate)

Still seems pretty managable though. I know this is the gen 5 thread, but surely we all want to have 493 pokemon sitting ready to trade over when the new games hit! It will only take about nineteen hours to transfer them all over too :/

Real Edit: The only ones from the above list I don't have are Celebi, Deoxys, Glameow/Purugly, Stunky/Skuntank, and Manaphy. I can get Glameow/Purugly from my Pearl version though, meaning excluding unobtainables Stunky/Skuntank are the only two I won't have immediate access too. Except I have two friends with Diamond and I'm sure they'd trade me. Whoo!

Although I might be tempted to spend thirty fucking dollars and fifteen hours of my life on pokemon ranger, just so I can have a fucking manaphy. I don't see them distributing that one :/

Manphy and Stunky I can get you if you want.

Manaphy and Phione are pretty useless, IMO

Generally all of the "cute" legendaries are. I think only Celebi is somewhat useful.

If you're talking in actual battle, then... Mew, Skymin, and Manaphy are uber, Azelf (if you aren't counting only the "unobtainable" ones) and Celebi are OU, and Shaymin is BL, so they certainly aren't useless.
Edit: Missed Jirachi, also OU.

Yeah I know some are shitty. But I'm pretty set on finally completing my dex in SS

Mew was part of the "cute" legendary classification? I always thought it was Shaymin, Manaphy, Phione, Celebi and Jirachi.

Heh, poor Ditto, always making Pokemon have sex.

It's really weird seeing Ditto um... "mate" with first-evolution mons. I always assume the "aren't mature" yet.

:X

I havent been keeping up with this at all. Is it rumored to be an actual "advancement/rebirth" of pokemon? Not really sure from reading the op and first few pages.

It'll be the fruit of this, should be looking good.

We don't know much apart from a new Dark pokémon and his baby form, more info in the upcoming days IIRC

I just started playing Platinum recently after playing Diamond when it came out. Christ, what a slow fucking game. Everything moves at a snails pace and some of the menu/design decisions are fucking awful.

Also a better system than "switch all Pokemon in and then out to get XP" needs to be researched. Battles are so long and tiresome having to do that.

Experience Share is your friend

But yeah, all pokemon games move pretty slow. It's about enjoying the ride, maaaaaan
