Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

I should clarify I want all new Pokemon, and just that. I don't want a 450 Pokemon long Pokedex.

I never understood complaints like this. You guys act like more variety is a bad thing...no one is forcing you to catch all of them anyway and "Gotta catch em' all!" stopped being the tagline YEARS ago. I feel most of the people complaining about a large number of pokemon have never played the game online against other people...

I don't get it either.

If the new game featured only the original 151 I wouldn't be able to get/play with most of my favorites...

Even worse they specifically made regional pokedex so that you couldn't see more than 151 pkmn until late in the game

And Taijiri wanted to make 1000 pokemons so....expect more :lol

I wouldn't even consider buying a new Pokemon game that only included the first 151 Pokemon. There are tons of lame Pokemon designs across every generation, and the first generation definitely shouldn't be excluded from that.

Nostalgia is definitely blinding a lot of people. :lol

Pidgey, Spearow, Hoothoot, Tailow, Starly
Ratatta, Sentret, Zigzagoon, Bidoof
Pikachu, Pichu, Plusle, Minun, Pachirisu

Hey, variety is good. Just tell Game Freak that. Also tell Game Freak to stop flooding their regions with Geodude, Zubat and Tentacool jesus christ.

but what about Bulbasaur? T_T

What about Misdreavus? T_T

Game Freak tried the "Let's drop some 'mon" approach for Ruby/Sapphire, and that only seemed to cause fans to shout and roar so much that we got remakes of the originals to put back in the Pokemon they dropped out.

A small handful out of NEARLY 500 pokemon. And despite what you may thing some of those don't play the same. You'd be stupid to say Pigeot, Fearow, Swellow, Staraptor and Noctowl all played the same just because they're birds...because they're quite different

A total of one year between this and HG/SS? That doesn't really seem like enough time to develop I whole new generation of Pokemon.

The guys saying its been 5 years in development, since Diamond + Pearl.

But those five birds have exactly the same typing (Normal/Flying), whereas there are a lot of type combinations that haven't been used at all yet.

I like Staraptor as much as the next guy, but I could do without another Pidgey clone if it means some new typings.

The more Pokemon the merrier.

Always like the build up to a Pokemon game, where the new Pokemon slowly get revealed.

Really hope it's 5th gen though, I don't care for spin-offs.

Haha, I could name more analogues if you'd like. Just thought I'd start with those.

Of course they don't play exactly the same, but they serve the same purpose overall.

No they don't. You don't use a Noctowl for the same reason you use the others. It's use is completely different. You're too focused on the types and aren't giving any attention to stats, ability and moves when those are equally as important

Actually I think he's arguing aesthetics which makes even less sense in my opinion. So instead of running into pidgey, hoot-hoot, etc you'd... rather just run into pidgey?

They're only important to people who care about the metagame. For everyone else it's rock-paper-scissors and who looks the best.

I know GF is a small company, but I'm sure they've had two separate teams working on the G/S remakes and the new Gen games.

Plus, when HG/SS were finished late last summer, the members of that team could have joined the Gen 5 team to finish the production within a year. Just a guess.

Is this saying that next week's Pokemon Sunday show will reveal information about these new games?
I doubt it. Pokemon Sunday usually doesn't reveal anything new, though they were the first ones to hint at the Gold/Silver remakes so who knows.

Agreed. I hate going to the mall and seeing people wear the same Hollister shirt as me. What is wrong with variety? Keep your 151 Pokemon. Let me have my Gardevoir and Absol and Milotic.

That nostalgia blindfold is thick.

For everyone else it's rock-paper-scissors and who looks the best.

And if they have such a shallow interest in the mechanics, I don't understand why they complain about having more Pokemon to choose from.

I can't wait to hear the bitching over the new pokemon designs

Only go to the serebii forums if you want to lose brain cells. Some of the posters are actually speculating about a fucking emerald remake.

Don't most Pokemon games count as sequels? Having to point out that it's a sequel makes it seem like they are going to advance the world or something. I dunno, reading the thread title I pictured the game taking place after a Galapagos or Children of Men style virus ending Pokemon fertility.

What is that last comment on the blog?

Still, Masuda is doing an emergency video broadcast on Feb. 7th's Pokemon Sunday? Because I'm doing this, by all means please watch. You should be able to get some kind of information!

On that note, I can't wait to see what eventually is going to be shown. It's always interesting, every time.

To go along with the "we need a reboot" sentiment, an IGN user wrote this thread a few months ago. Interesting read, I kind like the idea;

http://boards.ign.com/pokemon/b5012/187544443/p1/

Cliffnotes for the lazy;

-He basically took the original 151 + their 2nd/3rd/4th generation evolutions (i.e. Chansey and Blissey, not just Chansey), took out the crappy, pointless ones (i.e. baby Pokemon, Fartfetch'd).

-Shifted their types around to make things more even and interesting (Koffing is now fire/poison, Electivire gets dark/electric, Dragonite family is pure Dragon).

-Comes out to be around 170 Pokemon, all with new/interesting type advantages, all of which are useful in competitive battling. Stats are also evened out so that some Pokemon aren't extremely overpowered (Mewtwo) or underpowered .

Yea. There definitely needs to be some new type combinations. Charizard should be a fire/dragon. Let's shake shit up GameFreak!

An translations of the developer blog yet?

-New game in the Pokemon Series releasing this year.
-In order to surpass the Pokemon games so far, they're aiming at innovative software that they're "eagerly developing".
-Di/Pe sales
-Urgent video will be shown on Pokemon Sunday on Feb 7th. He says to take a look, as you could get some information.

Sooo 8 days then until we might get some information? Let the countdown begin! :D

I'm really optimistic about the Gen 5 designs. For some reason I have a good feeling about them (a feeling that is, admittedly, based on nothing substantial whatsoever)

Can't wait. I do hope it is significantly different to the original formula. One thing which has always bothered me is why do evolutions typically stop at around the 36 level, when the levels reach 100? Why not have another stage of evolution around the 60 mark, and extend the game itself to keep you playing after this final evolution.

Oh and next gen nintendo console should launch with a true console Pokemon title.

Because in the main game, you aren't encouraged to go much higher than about lv. 50, due to trainers going up to about lv. 50 (60 for E4). It's only post game that you see higher leveled pokes.

Jesus, it's been 5 years since D/P. Tickle me pink.

Yeah, I guess they didn't need the whole team for Platinum and HG/SS. This could be as big of a project as I'm hoping. Personally I wouldn't mind it being a DSi exclusive. I would buy the system just for this game.

Would have been great . . . this person should be on the design team. He/She draws way too many Pokemon . . . 0_o
And that's how the gender differences in 6th gen games required Pokemon to be an M-Rated series.

(PurpleKeclon is a furry porn artist, dude.)

NO. Level 55 evolutions (Dragonite, Tyranitar) require too much grinding as it is!

which is why current evolutions are stupid. screw the whole old concept and make it so that Pokemon evolve gradually, naturally, differently depending on how you treat them in battle (and outside?).

So is GAF down for Pokemon Sunday next week? I think I still know where to find the stream for TV Tokyo so hopefully I can watch it too.

Also if there is going to be new information on Feb 7th then that means the Feb issue of CoroCoro will definitely have new info on new Pokemon.

Shit, good point.

Maaaan pokemon is like the only series that is still able to turn me into a giddy school girl at the prospect of new information

Yes, if they're going to have higher level evolutions they have to provide you with a place to fight enemies where you'll actually gain a decent amount of experience from them.

It's a pointless wish, and probably would just create more problems, both for gameplay design and character design, but I'd like to see 4th evolutions for the starter pokemon that basically turned it into a legendary pokemon.

They could be limited to the post game, connected to some quest, to make them feel special. Although I know it'll never happen because most people wouldn't want new evolutions for old Pokemons, especially because they could look just worse than the originals.

I could see Blaziken evolving into Moltres, or Empoleon evolving into Articuno.

Yeah, no thanks. Some of my favorite Pokemon are from the later generations (Swampert, etc)

Also who decides which monsters are "crappy" or "pointless"? Farfetch'd was one of my favorites when I was 13. How arbitrary! What a load of shit!

I'm all for 493 monsters. I'm all for 1000+ monsters. No one is making you look at or use them all. Let people decide what they like. I couldn't give a shit about the metagame.

Some of my favorites are from the later generations as well, but I would sacrifice them to get rid of the stupid 200+ other Pokemon that those generations brought (Corphish is pointless, we already have Krabby, Taillow and Starly are pointless we already have Pidgey, etc.).

Basically, his point was that the later generations of Pokemon weren't really churning out new Pokemon for the most part, as there is a "Caterpie" and a "Pidgey" and an "Oddish", etc. in each of the successive generations. There's no need for more than one of the same Pokemon, which is essentially what is happening in the later gens.

I'd be all for keeping the more original ones like Absol, but all of the duplicates need to be cut. And the easiest/quickest way of doing that is to just scale back to the original 151, which is what he did.

Also, Swampert is hideous. :lol

EDIT: Zilch, he was deciding whether they were pointless or not based on their usefulness in competitive battling. Farfetch'd is completely pointless in that regard.
