Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

I just started playing Platinum recently after playing Diamond when it came out. Christ, what a slow fucking game. Everything moves at a snails pace and some of the menu/design decisions are fucking awful.

Also a better system than "switch all Pokemon in and then out to get XP" needs to be researched. Battles are so long and tiresome having to do that.

Try taking battle animations off and put the text speed to fast. And, as someone else mentioned, use experience share.

I haven't played a Pokemon game since Red, Blue and Yellow but damn if I didn't love those games, and I'd still be interested in a new Pokemon game if I gave a shit about any of the new Pokemon beyond the first 151 or 152.

Oh yeah, absolutely this. Platinum was the first game I did this in and it makes a fucking huge difference

Oh god its turning into the old Sonic thread. Where the hell are these images coming from?

Also does Ditto actually have any real use outside of being a baby poke wholesale supplier? I haven't really seen anyone use it for battle since gen 1.

If it's about ten levels higher than something, it's a good match. The turn lost from transforming is a pretty bad hit, and you only get 5 PP for each move...

So I'm the only one that would actually like to see the series start to use full 3D models now?

Nope, if it meant Game Freak would finally start using idle animations, and actual attack animations.

They were nice in Pokemon Stadium.

I have a feeling it'd be tough to do it for what, 600 Pokemon now in the new games? XD
They did it in all the Pokemon Stadium games. I'm not sure how I would feel about 3D models in the main series since the sprite work is very unique and iconic. It does need a graphical overhaul though. I'm trying to think of a game series that made so little graphical progress in a 15 year span besides Pokemon, but I can't think of any.

Even if we just had very low quality 3D models....I want something new. And I want decent battle animations.

Not just

Well, you're almost surely not getting it

The Pokemon art alone is incredibly time consuming. I don't think they're going to get to work on animating them during battle unless they planned to launch this in 2013.

Dragon Quest.

What are those pictures from?

As long as I could still skip battle animations 3D is fine.

The picture at the bottom, as someone posted here, is a photoshop of Dragon Ball DS2.

The one above is from HG/SS.

The pokedex is simply too big to do more than sprites now.

This is exactly why I wish Nintendo would just up and reboot the game franchise. Start with a totally fresh slate instead of feeling forced to make concessions for 500+ pokemon that already exist. Thinking about a fifth gen that adds even more of them just feels pointlessly redundant.

Of course they'll never actually do this, but a man can dream... :(

For those of you wondering, Saving, navigating menus, the computer, etc, are much faster in HG/SS. Battles are still ridiculously long with the intro animations and battle animations, but you can shorten it to an extent by switching them off.

Personally, when I'm playing through just for In-Game purposes, I love to see the animations, since I completely forget about them when it comes to things like Shoddy.

Sprites are much better than 3D. And give me MORE pokemon. Why create a bland world filled with the same old pokemon. To ignore the diversity of real world creatures and not translate it into mons is lazy. And raise the level cap to 200.

To me, being able to take my Pokemon over to the next game is one of the most important aspects of the series.

While I wouldn't give up on it if they had a cut-off, I'd be pretty pissed, like I was when you couldn't keep your G/S/C Pokemon in R/S/E.

I know I'm not the only one that was pissed about that, and I think that's why they've gone to such lengths to keep the games talking to each other, and then spun it around into a lucrative remake opportunity.

They already have models and animations for 251 Pokemons basically compatible with DS hardware from the Stadium games though. Would making more really be hard for the MAIN series? Truthfully, I don't expect they'll do it, but I don't think it's impossible either.

As far as battle sim programs go, gimme the actual game or nothing at all :D

Gotta have my animations.

EDIT: Animations dont have to be too elaborate. One entry post/ faint pose. One breath, punch, kick, power up animation, etc.

Pretty much like Dragon Quest or Stadium.

being overly pessimistic is not being reasonable, alberto :/

I'm with you. I'm getting really tired of the old 2-d experience.

I've always hoped for a portable pokemon game similar to pokemon colloseum.

And people will just turn them off anyways. I'm FOR sprites.

I am in the sprite fan category myself also.
It allows alot more character in its limited format, though I would also really like to see a new game for the Wii that takes more advantage of the interactivity that is possible between the systems.

I want a better Pokemon storage - much better than Ranch.

Wondering how they're going to handle Pal Park... I'm hoping there will be a DSiWare Box app.

You'd dump your Pokemon into that, and then the Gen 5 game could pull them out of it.

I dont know, I think Id prefer something resembling Disgaea, Lunar:SSH, or Ys:OiF before this:
2vwtyit.jpg

That just doesnt feel very Pokemon-ish to me. I guess I never really cared to have my pokemon all 3d and stuff. A step up from what theyre doing now would be great. To be honest, Id really like the Ys:OiF look for a Pokemon game:

I feel like if they were to implement 3D battles on the DS, there would just be an idle and 1 attack animation, maybe one for being affected by status. The old attack animations would still be used. But I don't think Nintendo would want to introduce a new gen with DS-quality 3D models.

I think you got them backwards.

The idea of 3D Pokemon, especially on the DS, scares me. I would prefer for them to further polish 2D sprites, because that super-clean look IS Pokemon to me. But then again, I wasn't a big fan of console games after the SNES until around now too, because we can finally get clean 3D. Maybe it's just me.

I would prefer sprites to models myself too. The DS just doesn't have the power to put out aesthetically pleasing 3D renditions in my opinion. Not to mention there's just so much nostalgia for me in sprites, I would prefer they spend the time giving each pokemon proper animations than work on models.

On a DS cart? With the rest of the main game content? I super duper doubt it.

The way the Stadium/Colloseum games handle battle models isn't exactly great, either. It's just a move effect (like Flamethrower) layered on top of a canned Pokemon animation. It's pretty much no different from the sprites, except the sprites look better.

First pic of Lugia is from the HeartGold/SoulSilver cutscene where you find Lugia.
Seconod pic is a photoshopped pic of mine of a Dragonball 2 DS screen.

DS carts are several times bigger than N64 carts. Or am I mistaken?

At least, there IS a canned Pokemon attack animation. And actual backgrounds.

Right now, Pokemon just has two static pictures and abstract animations shown to symbolize the attacks. Although usually for DS 2d > 3d, as far as Pokemon goes, 3d is the only way to achieve a significant graphical evolution for the battles. I don't want to see anyone adding even more 3d to the maps though.

Since DS can pretty much overtake N64 or PS1 graphics, I don't think it's very hard to come up with a basic 3D Model for Pokemon and give them a couple of animations (since they did it in Pokemon Stadium 1/2, Pokemon Snap, Hey You Pikachu!, etc.)

Doing it for 600 Pokemon is something else though.

It's not so much the details of the models as it is the resolution of the DS screen.

Uhh, why would starting over magically make the job of modeling easier? Unless you suggest them cut down on the number of pokemon, to which i have to say NO. More is always better. The only people who disagree are those who, for some reason, still feel obligated to catch em' all when it's better to just use a bunch you like and slowly accumulate the left overs
