Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

Mega bonus points for adding a legit big city in the game.
If they allow us to bring our pokemon from D/P/Pt/HG/SS over then I'll be 110% satisfied with the way this is going.
 
So maybe the rotating camera is because they've added battle animations and this way they only have to make the necessary sprites for facing 1 direction.
 
Im excited, but it looks like they are implementing a lot of the DS's ugly 3D. I'm not sure how i feel about this. The character sprite in front of the house looks really squished.

Edit: is this supposed to be a guy?

Why cant they make a new pokemon game but on Wii?
Have it in 3rd person, a whole world to explore, better graphics, voice acting, different from the handheld games

Not really, they're all for the most part pretty shitty. I'd take any of the last 2 gens designs over anything I see in this picture
 
I've been staring at that guy ever since the scans came out and I still can't figure out what the hell's on his head.

The city view reminds me of Animal Crossing DS, which was a major fail.
Nah, I have to say Black/White look fine and HG/SS as well obviously.

What I miss from the GBA games is the consistent 60FPS instead of the 30FPS we have now and probably will keep for Black/White. :(

I'm willing to bet this graphics engine is not tile-based.

I'm glad they're moving to 3d. I do wish they had made that move onto a better piece of hardware, but oh well.
 
The city shot is pretty nice, but nothing else presented so far really captures me.

I like some of the type combinations and designs (well, I'll always appreciate new type combinations). Too many other issues I have with that for me to prefer it being in a game however.

And the names are even cornier than some of the stuff we already get, which is an amazing feat. :lol

I don't think the DS can handle 60 FPS while doing the 3D graphics. If you are on the bike riding through Hearthome there is quite a frame rate stutter.

I agree.

My thought is if your not going to go full 3D dont go 3D at all.

yeah SS/HG look great in the overworld but the game is slow due to the low framerate.
 
I'm suddenly fantasizing the new battle system in my head, and it's glorious.

Zorua rushes up and attacks Zoroark with Take Down.

The camera angle changes and closes up on a sprite of Zoroark flinching before regaining position.

Zoroark decides to use Shadow Ball.

The camera shifts to a side-view, showing Zorua and Zoroark on direct opposite sides of the screen and Zoroark tosses a powerful orb of darkness at Zorua.

The camera flashes white and zooms in on Zorua, who absorbs the hit before healing with a berry it was holding.

This will never happen.

And the names are even cornier than some of the stuff we already get, which is an amazing feat :lol

Yeah :lol lol at the ugly duckling/swan Pokemon, Ugling and Swhite.
 
I really wish for a new way to adjust speed battle without taking out battle animations (if the new dynamic battles deliver). I just got used to playing with battle animations off, makes the battles way faster, cant go back now.

Awesome pokemon but Irimp looks like a butt. It's even more ironic since it's evolution is inherently full of hot air :lol

Yup. The city has some awesome scale going on.
 
Yeah, no way this was going to be a new engine. The perspective change they added to BW was in a few places in HGSS (Camera guy, I think and the train are two I remember, might be the only things)

I think the Lighthouse and the Bell Tower are the best examples. Immediately thought of those when I saw the Black & White screenshots.

In my opinion, the 4th gen wasn't really pushing the DS outside of the 3D effects, there was still a lot of 2D stuff in the game.

But BW to me, especially in that city pic above looks leaps above last gen, the 3D looks clean and easy on the eyes outside of jaggies.

It's not the exact same engine but I'm sure it's going to be more than 50% the same. Increasing the draw distance is peanuts compared to creating a whole new engine from scratch.

Yep, and I agree with the above that the draw distance was atrocious in that hacked video.

I'd figure it's going to be like RBY/GSC where you can only bring Pokemon compatible with the old gen to the trade room.
 
I hope it lets you "self-trade".

I.e. You activate that, the game would prompt you to take out the BW cartridge for a HG/SS cartridge, bring a specific mon, then take out the HG/SS cartridge and finally return the BW cartridge.

People with multiple DS's need not worry about such things. :P

Plus GF hates self-trading if the godawful slow trading animation in DPPtHGSS is anything to go by. >_<
