Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

So I take it, the HGSS implementation of your lead Pokemon following you is not present in BW? They always do this with Pokemon... leaving out features previous games had.

We don't know, but probably not. And yeah, it sucks.

I would much rather have something like the Pokétch Apps than a Pokemon following you...

I would prefer a hybrid of the Pokegear/Poketch. All the [useful] apps of the Poketch with the same always-on style, but with the fidelity/functionality of a Pokegear application. And a menu for selecting the active one.

I would also like the touch-based interface from HGSS, with just a little refinement (let me re-order my party with touch!).

The touch menus in HGSS were good, but they "cut to black" when you made selections way too much which makes it feel slow, and the touch functionality wasn't always used or intuitive.

Here's a higher quality video: http://www.filb.de/1294

Man why did I have to watch last week's Pokemon Sunday and not this one. :lol

Anyway it looks like it moves like most people thought. BTW I hate the noises Lucario makes whenever I watch Pokemon Sunday.

The touch menus were really average, I found. SS is my first DS Pokemon game, so maybe I expected too much but I was hoping for some iPhone like controls where you could drag things around with the touch screen and whatnot. :(

That's not how it really is, is it? Because that looks horrible. Not so much the city but the sprites. Looks like one of those Action Replay codes for changing the camera angle but more elaborate.

You realize it's DS game being shown on a TV, right? The footage is low quality.

Oh I get that, but it's the whole weird sprite effect going on. I'll be happy if it's not like that though. It just looks far too much like an AR code is what I meant. I'll reserve judgment until an actual video comes out though.

...and buy the game regardless.

Not to make you too positive about things, but this IS a fairly early pre-release video. I personally hope the sprite work will work a little better with the 3D closer to release.

That feature will be added to Pokemon Gray :V

It bothers me how there's such an obvious grey void behind the big city or behind the pokemon battle. If they're going to stick with sprites, couldn't they have really upped the attention backgrounds got? I see this, then I play Mystery Dungeon and see the great backgrounds and wonder why the main series can't have this.

Ed: Yeah, early footage I know.

I really hope they don't take it out, but it looks like they have :(

Sucks. Not quite as badly as them taking out proper day and night from RS, but I liked that feature :(

has anyone considered that it's an on/off feature? like just go to the pokemon menu and select "Follow".

I definitely think it won't be in.

3rd installment, maybe if they feel like it, but not this time. Seeing how much of a "graphical change" it is in their minds, and a revolution, they probably think they get a free pass to skip out on some features (kinda like with RSE).

After making such a big deal about it in HG/SS, it's pretty suspect that it hasn't been shown.

Maybe they're saving it for Pokemon Rainbow, or the 3DS RSE remakes... those would be in keeping with 3rd release/remake improvements, as it's almost entirely a visual improvement.

Don't underestimate the amount of work it is to implement this either, BTW... each Pokemon has 16 sprites, and there are over 500 Pokemon when you take formes and color swaps into account. So far, some of the changes to B/W seem to indicate that the existing sprites might not work, either, meaning it's not just about making sprites for the new Pokemon.

They're saving it for the R/S remakes. Then it'll be dropped for Gen 7 on 3DS only to be added again in the D/P remakes.

I really hope they polish a few things up in the Black/White remakes.

Anyways, just because a Pokemon isn't following the character doesn't mean this feature will be dropped. Perhaps this area is early in the game, and they don't want to reveal the starters, new Pokemon, or what Pokemon you will be able to get in that area of the game. Too be honest, the feature is kind of superfluous. Yeah, it was cool to have Pikachu follow you like in the TV show, but otherwise it has no real affect on anything (although I do like how they got rid of the Pokeball animation for your starter Pokemon, making battles go a bit faster).

So I was thinking of Pokemon instead of studying, and I came up with what I think would be a cool idea for the new games.

"Legacy" Pokemon: When starting the game, you can either cartridge swap or WiFi yourself a Pokemon from DPPtHGSS. Then, instead of choosing a starter, you get to start with a level 5 version of that Pokemon.

Sounds like a lame idea. :P

Of course not, but it's awesome.

Also, the games are about Pokemon and living in a world with all these sweet ass monsters and it's never made sense to me that you ONLY saw them in battles!

The HG/SS following sprites made me so happy.

This was the reason I loved Pokemon Snap so much and pray to Flying Spaghetti Monster that we get a sequel one day.

How does shit like this make a TV show?
It would barely make a decent online video blog, but stuff like this actually airs on TV? Do the Japanese not make real TV and news shows?

It's in between different episodes of Pokemon. It's not like that for 30 straight minutes.

Hoooly crap. When you send out a Pokemon, if it's following you, it just slides into the frame whereas if it's not, it comes out of it's Pokeball :O

It looks exactly like how children's programming in North America is done. If you have a son/daughter/brother/sister around 4 years old, check out their channel. In Canada it's Treehouse. Filled with shit like this, although admittedly not done purely to promote a product.

Why do Japanese variety shows always have a tiny window in the corner that shows the reactions of other people whenever they show some sort of video footage?

Or at least I don't remember it being that way. Maybe a good thing.

Edit: ... Whoops, quoted myself.

You're probably too young to remember, but our TV used to actually be like that.

It was ruled in...I want to say 88, though I'm probably wrong, that running ads during children's cartoon shows for the same product (or not clearly delineating between ads and the show) confused children, so they stopped doing it.

I very clearly remember Ninja Turtles shows that would have the characters hocking CDs and t-shirts from their shows with numbers telling you to beg your parents to buy them.

I very clearly remember that because I saw the shirt the other day.

A lot of Japanese TV is crazy stupid. Even their news has giant flashing font and music that to us would seem comical.

But, no, it's not all like that. I mean, there's anime. And there's a LOT of anime. Then there's the power rangers stuff, which is significantly less... wacky.

I didn't watch much TV when I was over there (only actually had cable for a month or two), but what I did watch... a lot of it was weird-ass shit.

Welcome to HGSS Firestorm. :lol

Someone extracted and attempted to enhance the City theme that played during Pokemon Sunday's bit of BW footage. I kinda like it, gives a nice city vibe to it. Though there may be a few things off about it. Can't blame the guy though, it's hard to do so with all the SUGOIs in the background.

Woah, thanks for that.

I like the music, actually. If there's one thing I really care about when it comes to new Pokemon games, it's the new music. (To be very honest, I wouldn't care if the engine/graphics were exactly the same if the music was new and good...)

You no longer have to enslave Charmander!

I still would though.
