The DQ remakes did it right.

Did the DQ remakes have a fixed camera, though? I just think that if they're going to make the games 3D, they should use 3D models on the "overworld". Otherwise the animation will look janky and the sprites all pixelated. DPPt and HGSS do OK because the camera never moves and the models do their best to look like sprites anyway.

I then look at the BW screenshot of the zoomed out city and just think that it's hideous to look upon.

EDIT: Or hell, keep it in isometric view!

After two hours you probably won't even mind the weird pixel distortion in cities... And we're talking a 50+ hour game for the main quest, so that's like less than 4%.

But yeah. It does annoy me. I want some good direct-feed video before I make any judgments though.

However, it's looking like HGSS will be the best looking DS games ever now.

I get what you are saying. And i think (or at least like to think) that the thing is going to look better than this shots/video on an actual DS. I would however love a rotating camera in an engine similar to the DQ remakes but yeah, not gonna happen.

Actually as I look at them they're growing on me a little, but there is something so wrong with the colouring on the water starter, it's made up of 5 different colours, white head, dark blue lower limbs, brown nose, turquoise body and a cream coloured shell. It's too much.

I think those are pretty good guesses. For some reason the Water starters coloring makes me think Water/Ice...
