Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

So are you guys expecting anything of significance at E3? I can't remember how much Gen 4 and 3 stuff were shown at E3 in their respective years

I'm not expecting much at all, honestly. Just a reconfirmation that the games exist and will be released sometime next Spring. Pokemon games never have much presence at E3. I don't even think they mentioned HG/SS last year. :o

Though, according to Serebii they're going to show a new trailer this week at the World Hobby Fair in Japan, so we might get lucky and see it a few days earlier at E3.

Ha, if someone doesn't do it in the next week I'm gonna make it . . .the one that has been calling out to me from the moment I laid eyes on this Zebra . . . Zebricity and Ponyta!! It makes so much sense but no one has done it yet! I think its because horses are just hard to draw so Zebricity fan art takes some time to spread.

According to this http://e3.gamespot.com/e3-showfloor-map?tag=content_nav%3Bbooths

They are gonna have Pokemon Black on the show room floor so who knows . . . thats the only place I can find it, on the highlights thing they don't list it. :/

If your referring to me I get all the fan art I post from Deviant Art.

Mainly because, for Pokemon fan art, the fans over there seem to be much more creative, talented and diverse as a whole given the other popular option "Pixiv". Pixiv doesn't do it for me . . . the only one I can find a decent amount of fan art for over there among the new 7 Pokemon is Chiramii because its already cute so it goes with their "cutification" agenda very well :/

Yeah. I also refer to DA for character art. Even the supposed older characters end up looking moe in pixiv =/

It's like damn, they can't draw a thing outside of that.

Awww, hopefully they'll show something interesting. I've only been watching E3 the past few years, though I can't even recall pokemon games ever being significantly showcased? :S

I think its because their in love with their "cute manga style" over there. Plus the over flow of moe anime over there should say something about how they feel about their cartoons/ animes/ art styles. When I hear Andrex prise them so highly I really just think its because he likes the anime/ manga style and, WOW, they draw the Pokemon in different, cute, anime/ manga styles!

Really, I think that the diversity of the West is why Deviant Art has so many unique fan arts that you just wouldn't find on Pixiv.

Yeah, I have never seen them do anything for the mainline series. Its always the spin offs . . . so maybe theres big news! :D

Well there are some "deviants" from pixiv, though they tend to be extreme (e.g. that buff Reshiram pic).

I don't mind diversity, and I don't fashion myself a fanboy of Japanese art. In fact I hate most animes lately because of that. :lol If all anime was in, say, the Cowboy Bebop style, I wouldn't mind. Gurren Lagann was one of the only animes that had a new style that I liked...

But anyways, I just don't find a lot of the DA stuff appealing because I personally think it looks bad or it's too realistic. The benefit of an anime style is that you'll never approach the kind of monstrosity that was that pic where everyone looked drugged out and 25 years old...

Beyond that, the anime style works for Pokemon because not only has there been a decade-long anime accompanying it, but because Sugimori has been approaching that style the past couple gens anyways. Seeing an anime-style piece just feels familiar and right. Imagine if you were trying to convince me the Simpsons done in anime style is really any good?

I do like the kind of pastel fanarts, like what my avatar is, in fact! And the one where it was mostly sky. I love that style.

Enough with my blathering, here's a comic.

I don't get the Wotter hate. I think he's both awesome and cute. He reminds me of a moogle.

I would choose him as my starter buy my wife has been wanting a sea otter Pokemon for years and we like to pick different starters.

I like him less now that my friend pointed out that his shell looks like a flaccid dong flopping over balls.

Only if they allow you to set clauses. Not interested in seeing uber after uber in random matches. And no leaderboards because people are just going to D/C their way to the top.

Seeing as how the Fight/Bag/Run/Pokemon interface now has an indicator for Weather I think those crazy Pokebeach rumors might have some credence.

AHHH I NEED A BIGGER VERSION OF THAT PICTURE. =O =O =O

Also, Chiramii's Pokédex entry on the official site!

Chiramii - Chinchilla Pokémon
"They greet one another by rubbing their tails on each other's bodies. They never fail to keep their tails well-groomed."

Screenshots indicate that Wi-Fi Random Match has a "Free Mode." This implies the existence of other modes (leveling/rules?).

First things first, Deviant art as a whole is full of allot of shitty art because its so big and accessible to anyone who wants to draw. Buts that really doesn't matter because you can look over the lil kid art or the ones with lower skill levels easily . . . thats how you find the good ones. :P

2, I'm pretty sure the drugged out 25 y-o thing was anime styles and came from Pixiv IIRC but it doesn't really matter seeing as thats just one picture.

3, I have seen a anime styled Simpsons picture before on Gaf and it looked cool lol.

But yeah, its not just that Pixiv makes them look like different animes . . . they seem to try their hardest to make them look Moe and cuter with these styles (among other things that I wont go into). Its all very . . . meh to me. :/

Its like, when I try to find cool fan art I try to find something striking and interesting . . . I don't want to see everyone just sticking to the same agenda and concept with their art. It shows a lack of creativity among the community and, with how Pixiv makes things, it can hind the fact that these fans/ artist lack certain skills or range.

Personally I think it has something to do with what Satoshi Tajiri once said in that one-and-only interview he did. He said that the US "understood" he view of Pokemon better then Japan. Something about how in Japan they would just market Pokemon swag by putting Pikachu or w/e cute Pokemon on it so that the people over there would eat it up but thats not the case here, in the US they market stuff with both Ash and Pikachu on it. (if your wondering I fond this in a Brawl debate about if "Pokemon Trainer" should be a PC before it was confirmed lol)

I think that same concept carries on into the art work . . . here we have the big JPN fan site Moeing-up everything Pokemon, making it as cute as they can (and gushing over the already cute Pokemon . . . Chiramii dwarfs all the other new Pokemon in art over there right now) in their "anime/ manga" styles but over here we have Deviant art and talented fans who draw in any number of styles with taste that range from cute to the beastly.

Wow, thats longer then I thought it would be 0_o.

But yeah . . . Don't care for Pixiv's bs Moe art.

Official website (http://www.pokemon-sp.jp/series/bw) has been updated with clearer screens and art.

It also mentions you can upload your save file to a special website to play Pokemon over the internet. Once you're done, you can send your save file back to the DS to keep playing. It doesn't say if you can play the full game or only some of it on this website though. Sounds interesting.

Yeah, the official site makes no mention of the "Free Mode" that I noticed, so I'm not sure what that would entail, either. =/

Buuuuut, I enlarged the map picture from the official site as well. BEHOLD!

w1fd3s.png

Points of note by region (based on a taped-together composite map, lolz):

Northeast
* Shrouded in fog
* Upper edge of the eastern mountain range

East
* Body on eastern side of peninsula, river on western side
* Eastern mountain range
* Forest on southern side of mountain range
* Brown building (?) on forest edge
* City with tall townhouse-esque buildings, just southeast of mountain range and forest
* Small grove near townhouse city
* Lake with a bridge west of grove
* Bridge spans across to a castle-like building with an open earthen courtyard
* Factory-like building / old manor (?) south of townhouse city

Southeast
* Town on end of peninsula south of factory / old manor, seems to resemble the
town shown in early shots
* Town connected to factory / old manor by open path running through/"between" forest
* Several islands in inlet west of peninsula town, one of which has a building
* Western edge of forest connects to spiral highway which, in turn, connects to the Sky Arrow Bridge leading into Hiun City
(Screenshot seems to be taken from near the spiral highway)

South
* Hiun City - enormous port city, main business center of Isshu
* Eastern edge of Hiun connected to eastern peninsula by Sky Arrow Bridge
* Desert north of Hiun
* Eastern edge of desert mainly barren with some rocky outcroppings
* Middle of desert has a small town what seem to be eroded streets/pathways connecting Hiun to amusement park city
* Western edge of desert has a sandy enclosure with two buildings, surrounded by rocky outcroppings
* Entire south-central peninsula bordered by rivers on east and west

Southwest
* Two large islands at river delta between Hiun and western area
* Large forest at southern edge of western area

West
* Two mountain ranges (southern "granite" and upper-middle "blue")
* Town located west of blue mtns. and north of granite mtns.
* Aforementioned town seems to hold a bunker and a tower on its northern border
* Two cave entrances on southern edge of blue mtns. east of granite mtns.
* Entrances separated by river flowing through blue mtns. which branches into three and flows toward granite mtns.
* City on eastern edge of western area (east of granite mtns. and forested area)
* City comprised of middle area with large "bunker" and southern area with another "bunker" and what appear to be green oil drums and red/white scaffolding; two areas are separated by water, connected by flat cement road
* Taj Mahal-esque temple and lighthouse just north of city
* City connected to central peninsula by small bridge, tiny island, and large red bridge with notable red orbs at connections of angled support beams
* Red bridge probably the "drawbridge" shown in the most recent set of screenshots

Northwest
* Windmill town set on ridges northeast of blue mtns. and third range (upper "golden")
* Series of small lakes enclosed by forest north of windmill town
* Small castle-like building west of windmill town
* Large castle surrounded by deep blue moat west of lake enclosure
* Sizable wooden (?) structure with red banner (?) isolated in middle of forest northwest of golden mtns. (kind of reminiscent of Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto)
* Windmill town connected to central peninsula by metal bridge with X-shaped support beams

North
* Northern portion of central peninsula almost entirely forested
* Series of ridges forming a plateau on southern edge of forests
* Wooden bridge connecting northern plateau to northern portion of eastern peninsula
* Small temple (?) at eastern edge of wooden bridge
* Large earthen plateau with levels and caves built into the cliffside
* Mossy stone ruins at top of earthen plateau
* Large black cathedral on southern edge of central peninsula forest (southwest of series of ridges)
* Cathedral in center of town: western half comprised of black/gray buildings, eastern half comprised of white/blue buildings
* Southern edge of cathedral city comprised of forest and small cave on its western edge

Center
* Circular park area surrounded by moat, connected to surrounding forest by simple bridges on east and west
* Gazebo / rotunda structure in center of park
* City with amusement park (ferris wheel etc.) on southern edge of forest south of circular park
* Amusement park city seems to be built on water (series of canals à la Venice? perhaps this city from screenshots
* Amusement park city connected to western landmass by red "orb" bridge
* Forest and cave (?) located east of ferris wheel
* Small cement bridge connecting amusement park city to desert area north of Hiun

Speculate away! :D

Possible keys to discerning the region:
* Windmill town - perhaps one of Japan's wind farms?
* Numerous bridges
* Geography in general: two peninsulas (east, central), western landmass, central peninsula set off by two rivers

Great analysis, Masked Man. Didn't notice that there was a town in the desert.

So which section of Japan is this supposed to be?

Still being debated. The three most likely candidates are Hiroshima, Shanghai, and Manhattan.

Does the port mean we can explore areas outside of Isshu?

Would be nice. You'll probably have to take a boat to reach the post-E4 island/battle frontier.

What could this mean?!?

How far does this go?!?

HYPE

Also, I am liking the whole hex design on everything. Very interesting.

Wow, no way!! Save file thing sounds epic, late .. but I'm still disappointed there's no custom avatars, this would of been the perfect game to introduce them.

The battle screen is the best thing I've ever seen in my whole life, by the way. Look at the top bar! Look at it!

I'm guessing "Wireless" stands for local wireless, and "Wi-Fi" for Internet battles.

What I'm wondering about is that "IR" text at the top.
Could this imply connectivity with Pokewalker? Or other IR features?

Could be a stretch.

Also, weather icon FTW.

"In this game, you can upload your "report" to the web, and use that save data to play from your computer on an exclusive website. The contents of your play on the website is reflected on your game afterward via a link between your DS and the website. You can experience a brand new form of play unlike anything you've seen before!"

This points far more at the website content being different from the game. It makes much more sense than just uploading your save and playing Pokemon on the website.

Thanks btw.
