Sometimes shield and dash is better than counter dash canceling if the opponent can send out the projectiles faster than you can get your shield back up after the counter dash.

In field mode I use my jumping homing attack. This probably won't work for long but it seems like people don't expect it for some reason.

You also use the ground homing attack and cancel it into guard to close in. Good thing is you can cancel into guard at any point so its a really safe option.

I played my first ranked match against a shadow mewtwo player with 43 wins while i used Blaziken.

Literally how do you even fight that shit. Why am i getting matched up with experienced players?

Shadow Mewtwo is the definition of a glass cannon. You need to get in close and overwhelm him before he has the chance to do the same to you.

A friend of mine needs help.
He wants to use the Wii U Pro Controller to play in singleplayer but he says he can't and he can only use the standard pad since the Pro Controller is always recognized as Player 2. Any idea how to help him?

I put those Gardevoir combos I posted earlier along with some of the ones Q posted into video form: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IxXOD4xqgo

I wrote down all the inputs with timestamps in the description. I should re-edit some parts since it's a bit sloppily put together but eh lol.

You know you can display the inputs on screen in training mode?

Nice video. Is it just me, or is the audio choppy?

Press + with the Pro controller on the title screen.

If you press + on the title screen with the Pro Controller, you will get a screen that says "Press '+' on the primary controller you wish to use." Press + again on the pro controller and it'll be recognized as the primary controller.

Just attained D Rank, I think i'm falling for Machamp, his no nonsense punch and grapple the crap out of you approach fits me well.

Meanwhile the sceptile matchups continue to pour in.

I cannot get out of D Rank. Every time I try to rank up to C, some asshat Shadow Mewtwo who I haven't unlocked, thus don't know it's moveset comes in and blasts the shit out of me.

Got so angry last night. Damn you have to work too hard with Sceptile. Maybe I'll switch to someone super easy like Pikachu. Top tier for sure that one.

One thing I'm not sure I like about the game is how absolutely terrifying every character is in Synergy mode. Super armor to most attacks and Burst attacks that activate almost instantly and beat every other option aside from block. You have to play super scared to not eat a super in the face. Many of them can even punish a support call-in on reaction quite easily, so those can't help cover you. I was describing this to a friend and he said that it sounds similar to Ultras in SF4, but because of the somewhat lengthy animations in this game and the easier input for the attacker, it feels way easier to slam out your burst when the other guy presses buttons at all. And the damage is huge.

I've noticed this plenty of times from the other perspective too. When I'm in burst mode most players are super scared to do anything aside from run around and block because of the threat of the burst.

Obviously it's a thing both players have access to, but It becomes a stranger system the more I think about it. I suppose it's like any other "activation" special in other games, where you are supposed to be on defense and wait it out, but it feels a lot stronger than those.

its kind of a risk/reward. You are super scared of then pressing L + R, but if they try to bait you out with something else and you read that, you can just remove a lot of their bar because they lose extra bar on each hit.

Honestly I think it's better to go on the offensive when an opponent uses it. Just use long combos to waste their gage. If you time your attacks right (or use a support) you can even stop their bust attack.

A lot of bursts can be snuffed by being aggressive actually. I haven't done this myself, but I've seen it happen to tons of streamers. Hell it happened to shofu several times in a row yesterday. The timing is tight though it seems.

Every time I feel like the match is over I make one good read with Machamp and suddenly win the match.

I love this character.

Been dominating as Charizard in the Ferrum League. Is he really that good, or are CPUs just not good against his play style?

Good lord dude, don't use the cpu as a measurement. You will get dominated, the tactics are entirely different. You will have to relearn everything.

Oh yeah, I'm not. I'm just trying unlock Mewtwo ASAP and then get online. It's just funny how Charizard just plows through everyone much easier than the other characters.

Interesting. I didn't notice you lose bar if you get hit while in synergy mode. Plus because it's time sensitive it's on the person who activated to do something.

For actually stopping them, maybe it's just certain bursts. I know I have never been knocked out of Gardevoir's synergy burst and seem to get plenty of invulnerability frames when I use it, but I also don't recall ever knocking someone else out of theirs. It's always block, whiff, or take the hit. Maybe there are supports I haven't unlocked yet that can help.

Worked out High-Stance for Weavile. It restores the Guard/Block barrier.

That seems like a very passive effect on a character like Weavile. Maybe it could help weather the zoning of some opponents if you can't get in.

CPU are just bad in general sadly.

The only exceptions are maybe the later Shadow Mewtwo fights, but even those aren't that hard.

The only way you can really gauge it is by just playing versus real people.

Yeah, been pretty disappointed with the AI so far. I know it needs to start out easy, but it never really ramps up that much from what I've seen so far to anything useful in actually learning the game.

Ok so this has probably been mentioned a few times but holy hell is that voice acting bad.
I love how the first league master sounds drunk and is mumbling trough his words. It's hilarious

I love the defensive avoidance strategy of this Braixen player
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXod40jpAts#t=18m02s

Chandelure, Braixen and Sceptile are my favorite fighters from what I've seen so far. Looks like I'm gonna break down and get the game soon after all

Very well played. Makes my Gardevoir zoning look like garbage in comparison, lol.

I can't help but notice the commentary. The guy is complaining quite a bit about being zoned out, but when Machamp does get in he kills her in like 3 solid hits. Patiently working to get in is Machamp's game.

So, if anyone remembers from that Smash Studios Twitch Stream yesterday, you remember that one match between a Pikachu and Suicune, where both had 1HP left when time ran out?

What normally would have been a draw, it gave the win to Pikachu, as Pikachu "technically" had less base HP than Suicune, and therefore technically its one HP was worth a bit more that Suicune's.

Just wanted to say that's stupid, is all.

He did more damage :p

Whimiscott is an absolute must have support for Machamp against suicune/braixen/gardeviore/chandelure. It's so good at allowing him to get in. And some people don't seem to know what it does, because they still try throwing out a lot of projectiles when I have it up.

Does anyone know how in person tourneys handle supports? Like I need whimiscott for certain matchups, but I'd rather have someone other than jirachi for other matchups, which I can't do when playing online.

This game is so fun, I love how the Duel Phase is basically Tekken meets the beat 'em up style combos. Haven't played SF V or anything else since it launched.

How the hell do you spend PG? Is their some sort of shop?

Go to My Town, it's all on the avatar customization.

I came so close to beating Blue League Shadow Mewtwo, down to 100 health. So salt. Red League seems to have stepped up the AI considerably, having trouble against Pikachu with Gardevoir. Most guys I can still zone and use future sight on without fail, but Pika just rushes in and hardcore combos me down.

Honestly I'm snoozing even through A rank fights using Braixen. I don't think my strategy is any different than the one I used in D rank, but I'm just trying to unlock Dark Mewtwo and be done with this.

I wonder how often they'll continue updating the game balance now that the console version is out. Looking at the update history of the game on the Pokken Wiki there were big updates last month and before that there was some in December, October, September and a small one in August.

You know you can display the inputs on screen in training mode?

Yeah, I only realized that until after I recorded everything lol. :x

Nice. I didn't think of using another energy disperse after the first one.
