Pokkén Tournament |OT| King of Iron Tail Tournament

Critical Hits are based on if you hit someone as they are attacking or about to attack. So, if they whiff something and the move is still out and you hit them, that's a Critical Hit. Or, if you hit them just as the move they were starting to use. They're Counter Hits like in other fighting games, it's just renamed to be a nice little fanservice thing.

crits also seem to happen if u win the rps (although im not sure)

When you land a full combo to a wall splat into Diglett assist and then Burst cancel into Super to win a online match.

Wished you can save matches though.

I have been having a ton of fun playing this over the weekend! I have been using Lucario so far to learn the game well, and had hopes of getting good with Chandelure. However, when just messing around and having fun trying the roster I managed to just "get" Garchomp's style unlike any other character I played. I may end up switching to him!

What are everyone's favorite support Pokemon pairs? I haven't really grasped the usefulness of characters that disrupt opponents or do buffs, so I have been sticking to Cubone and Diglett.

I like Frogadier because it presures my oponent just enough so I can get in. Eevee is alright I guess
The other one that seems great is Fennekin, which is a get out of me move basicaly, useful vs rushdown or grab characters

I really like Gardevoir paired with Mismagius. Reminds me in many ways of MvC Colossus. You can do some nice setups after a phase shift from field phase charged forward Y, A combo. After the shift, send out a Psychic, dash forward, call Mismagius. When Mismagius comes out, you can start charging back X and a blocking opponent will stay in block stun for about eight years, give or take, leading to a possible shield break. Alternatively, you can also slide at them, then grab before the Psychic explosion or Mismagius puts them in block stun. If they dash past the psychic, an air Future Sight ensures they can't successfully jump over the Mismagius.

It's also just a good tool for making distance and setting up air Magical Leaf beams for a ton of chip damage.

Sylveon for sure. Gives me extra defence and heals a bit, so very nice for being in a tight spot.

I've pretty much exclusively used Frogadier. I imagine this will change as I start getting matched up against better people but at the moment I can just send it out and then dash in for a free throw as everyone tries to either block it or counter dash cancel it. It also charges fast so I can use it multiple times per match.

It'd be cool if Charizard randomly switched which Mega Evolution it became when you went into burst mode. Like, I get that X is cool and all but Y is so underepresented now.

I've messed around with a few but Cubone and Diglett definitely seem like the best fit for me. You can do some nice setups into command grabs with Cubone.

Yeah they are dope, both are very good at setups. Cubone hits front followed by a back hit and it's good for catching people off guard while Diglett can be good for combo extensions/pressure into grabs. He can also keep an opponent up after wall splat which gives you more opportunities, even a Burst into Super if you have burst mode.

Also this game is really fun, way better than I expected. I really hope it does well for Namco Bandai so they can to make a sequel for NX or future DLC.

Very slowly trying to pick up some new tricks with Chandelure as I continue my way through the early Ferrum League battles. The temptation to mostly cheese the AI with fully-charged laser shots is strong but I know that sort of thing isn't going to fly online so I've been working on ways to keep a little less predictable. Mixing in more pendulum swings and the occasional minimize, though I still don't have a good grasp on how to cancel out of the latter quickly enough to really do anything with it. Also my defense is really porous, but that's pretty typical when it comes to me and fighting games.

I'm growing more in love with the upside-down spin move that you can cancel into while doing Chandy's side-ranged attack in field mode. Nice mobility and it seems like you can use it to occasionally spring some close-quarters offense on people at a time when they expect you to be hanging back with projectile spams. It better work, though, because the lengthy recovery on whiffed counters means that if you miss that attack you're left in a pretty disadvantageous situation and will probably eat a duel phase shift.

At first I felt like it was too hard to learn anything in the tutorial, I'd miss how to do something and then it would automatically move on to the next thing. While playing the computers I never fully understood what I could do in Field VS Duel but now after playing in the Free training and being able to reset to field instantly I'm starting to grasp it.

I was getting pretty frustrated today, especially against projectile users, when I get knocked into field I never could understand what all I could do. I didn't realize that like the projectile moves and the moves that dash toward your opponent are more or less the same for the pokemon. At least the 3 that I've been using. Makes it much easier to remember.

I'm really loving Garchomp and Machamp, playing Pikachu and Blazekin as also been fun. Don't see many of those 2 around. Once I feel like I have a handle on the 2 Power guys I will try out the 2 normals. Blazekin's moves are so crazy! Brave Bird and Flair Blitz takes his own health just like in the main games.

Right, forgot to post in the thread when I got the game. Been enjoying Weavile a lot so far.
Just need to get the combos down, bad.

Is there a google document for NIDs or something to add people?

Best thing about it is it does more damage based on the Debuffs your opponent has -- exactly like Hex in the games.

Your forward + A (Smog) and neutral A (Will-o-Wisp) lowers their defense and attack respectively. Have them both up when you grab and the damage is juicy.

I picked Sceptile since the moment I saw him and never looked back. Really incredible variety of attacks. Having 8X , 6YxxY , frogadier assist , dash forward , Back , Dash forward and Up A.

It doesn't do damage but it's incredible to stare at when you get t all together :)

Do we have any sales figures yet? Surely this is going to move some serious units (for wii u)

It's Sunday. If we get any figures for the game, it won't be until morning, and that will rely on the game selling insanely well during its launch weekend. The first figures we'll see will be on MC. We *could* see a US press release if the game opened really well at some point during the week.

We could get a loose idea if someone hops online without having played an online match and checks their ranking to see what figure shows up.

So far the ones I like are Pikachu Libre, Lucario, and maybe Braixen. Pikachu Libre is hype as fuck and Lucario makes me play very technical and serious. Braixen is still new to me but she seems alright. I just have to get used to her field phase strengths. I tried Sceptile when I first started and, idk, he wasn't workin for me. His combos are very strict imo.

I see. Well I'm thinking they underestimated the brand to be honest and possibly undershipped, atleast where I am.

First five stars I've got. Only my second day of playing it due to watching daredevil season 2 lol. Really liking this game. Trying to unlock all the support Pokemon and mewtwo before heading online

Lol, found some Wii U troubleshooting from 2012 that fixed my Wifi probs. Just did about ten matches online with no issues. Back to mastering Machamp!
