Prius = 20k. F+

Have you been to rural Pennsylvania? My parents grew up there and everybody pretty much drives an '88 Cutlass or a 1980's pickup. I'm sure a $20k Prius is right up their alley.

Again, clueless. :lol

DKos has it right as usual
Jeez, McCain's people made a huge mistake scheduling a speech for tonight. Just huge. Compare McCain's sleepy, awkward sentences and forced grins to Obama's dramatic speaking style. Compare the venue -- McCain's was small and sleepy, Obama's is huge and energized. McCain's speech got interrupted to talk about Obama. And Obama has managed to hit McCain on the very themes of McCain's speech, a mere hour after McCain rambled through them.

Giant, giant blunder by McCain's team. A head-to-head speech comparison on Obama's biggest night of the entire primary. What GOP idiot thought that would be a good idea?

Elitist would be a better word. Urban liberal, not real world solutions.

But he SAID that the country can't afford our addiction to oil over the next 4 years. His solution was higher CAFE standards and new cleaner technology. How does that help people over the next 4 years? It's a pretty basic question. All I'm hearing is a lot of pretty words but they often don't make sense. It sounds good so people like it.

It's a speech, it's made to excite. It's limited in depth, unless it's specific (and even then...), so he's oversimplifying. He has to hit on certain points. He will speak deeper about all of these topics.

Well, yes. That is how these speeches are generally structured. Town hall meetings are more substantive, or at least they're supposed to be.

Wow he won.

And his speech was very graceful. (just finished)

I think he'll be a fine president when we elect him.

Get those fuckers out of the White House and let's get some god damned universal health care. Thank you.

And unites them enough to make tougher decisions and accept sacrifice. The ability to speak is also the ability to inspire and unite - it can have practical effects. Save more money. Drive less. Work harder. Invest in your community. Help your kids with their schooling.

The dismissal of oratory is weird, given that the greatest leaders on earth have led by speaking.

No, that will be on August 28th, 45 years to the day after the I have a dream speech when Obama officially accepts the nomination

I'm not sure how improving automaker fuel standards would prevent them to continue to purchase cars they can afford?

You do know that hybrids WILL go down in price considerably as technology becomes more efficient? Stop acting as if it will stay the same for the next 10+ years or so.

I think in the long run, the speech on race will be the most remembered moment of the primary.

or possibly "yes we can."

this was his best speech, but not the most memorable IMHO

To be fair, some of the worst ones have led with great oratory too.

The real point of course is that when wielded for good, the power it has speaks to something personal and emotional. And that mobilizes people in a way quite unlike anything else.
