Regarding fuel efficiency...

Despite all the recent advances in automotive technology, the average MPG of automobiles has actually gone DOWN slightly since the 1980s. Something is fucked up there. :p

that's not a surprise at all. cars in the early 80s were trending smaller and more fuel efficient.

in contrast over the last 5 years we've seen an explosion in large trucks and ridiculous SUVs like the hummer and the escalade, as well as the return of the 60s and 70s musclecars with insane horsepower ratings and terrible MPG.

Number one would be to regulate your shitty free market speculation on commodities. Unless you don't want to help your straw man gas victim.

I answered it.

Nah, I meant he would jump in, say something that would rile up PoliGAF, and then jump out, without any intention of starting a conversation. He wouldn't answer our responses, not the other way around.

I did word it a bit oddly, though.

Actually there were 1000 people supposedly outside the McCain event. He chose to give a speech in a 600 person capacity place.

When Kerry lost, I really felt nothing.

If Obama loses, I will seriously just lose all hope.

Obama brought him up, he's not MY straw man. And so far he has not given a solution for the man he mentioned in his speech.

Ok so then:

32,000 Total @ Obama
1,600 Total @ McCain

Obama draws 2000% more people than McCain.

“Barack Obama has captured the majority of the popular delegates from caucuses and primaries from sea to shining sea. Barack Obama has the vision, ideas and values needed to bring positive change to our lives, from economic justice to energy independence to an end to the Iraq war and care for our veterans. As an activist dedicated to participatory democracy, I am thrilled that tens of millions of voters and tens of thousands of volunteers have participated in this Democratic nomination and breathed new life intro our democracy. I have great respect for our other presidential candidates, particularly Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has proved herself to be a champion for working families.”

Awesome. Not so soon until mama bear endorses

Because this makes much more sense (forcing corporations to research in certain directions) than doing SIMPLE things like starting to build nuclear plants for most of our household energy and drilling the VAST amounts of oil we have in ANWR, Colorado, and the Gulf - all of which will create jobs and lower prices.

Have you not seen the clip of Charlie Gibson clearly laying out to Obama that EVERY time capital gains taxes were lowered, government revenue went up, and yet Obama was like "we'll see" because he knows that a large portion of his base is more about sticking it to the man (taxing the "rich") than reality. Hell, the government is bringing in WAY more money now than it ever has in tax receipts, why would a big government spender like Obama want to change that?

Holy shit. Aren't you the Obama = Marxist dude?

Yeah, he actually had a higher ratio of people outside to people inside. I imagine that means something.

That friends, was a speech. He appealed to America not just his supporters which is something that was absent from the other two speeches.

To compare Obama to the robot that is Kerry is just asinine. And I like Kerry.

The Gore loss can be blamed on Florida [like many things] and the stupidty of conservative America. McCain won't have that support.

:lol Matthews is slurping up Obama's photogenic-ness.

BTW, since when is McCain's slogan "A Leader we can believe in?" I mean did we call him out on this yet? It's almost as bad as "Yes We Will". Did the other candidates just realize that Obama was so far and away better at campaign slogans they'll just plain steal them? Really?

I apologize for the inference. I am chastened. But obviously this speech was not a policy speech. It's a victory speech and a call to arms for the rest of the campaign/

I really like Kerry as a person, and I like his stances. It's just a shame that Kerry was so uncharismatic.

This may be speculation, but I'm confident in my numbers: you won't find that ratio applies to votes when it comes to election time. :p

It's going to come down to turnout.
I expect everyone in this thread having been charged up by Obama, to do what they can to get their friends and family out to vote this November, and Volunteer however they can.

Take this energy, and channel it. The Obama presidency is truly within reach.

I certainly will be.

Ask her to watch it. Ask her to realize that he welcomes her, that he respects Hillary and that the two of them are much more similar than they are different.

I was pointing out that presidential candidates can lose debates (Gore embarrassed Bush) and they can still win the presidential nomination. It's not like Obama is a lock if he embarrasses McCain in the debates.

The amt of Hillary supporters polled that said they wouldn't support Obama if he won the democratic nomination was incredible... there's some serious anger... I was always under the impression you supported your party first.....
