Al Giordano is being levelheaded. Again. (Favorite line bolded ;))

Real quick: I think that Senator Clinton’s speech was fine.

She didn’t concede. (The Field didn’t expect her to.) But nor did she declare that she’s going to go on a Kamikaze mission.

“I will be making no decisions tonight.” Check.

“I will carry your stories and dreams with me.” Check.

“I want to hear from you.” Write a check.

“I will be consulting with party leaders.” Check.

“The best interests of our party and our country.” Check.

She wants to sit down with Obama.

Everything is good. She’s getting out. She just has to negotiate her terms. But she stopped short of starting an internecine Civil War in the Democratic party. And nothing in her tone or words indicated otherwise.

Cap and trade systems tax industries for going over a certain level of carbon emission. That raises prices.

Investing money in other energy sources is good long term, but doesn't help the man Obama mentioned in his speech.

Energy efficiency is good, but if you can't afford 6 dollar gas how are you going to spend 20k or more on a new more efficient car?

The rest don't have a whole lot to do with the man in his speech either.

The amt of Hillary supporters polled that said they wouldn't support Obama if he won the democratic nomination was incredible... there's some serious anger... I was always under the impression you supported your party first.....

Those women that are peeved aren't democrats... they're feminists.

Unless they weren't in the party in the first place and were only voting for her because she was a woman.

Because this makes much more sense (forcing corporations to research in certain directions) than doing SIMPLE things like starting to build nuclear plants for most of our household energy and drilling the VAST amounts of oil we have in ANWR, Colorado, and the Gulf - all of which will create jobs and lower prices.

Have you not seen the clip of Charlie Gibson clearly laying out to Obama that EVERY time capital gains taxes were lowered, government revenue went up, and yet Obama was like "we'll see" because he knows that a large portion of his base is more about sticking it to the man (taxing the "rich") than reality. Hell, the government is bringing in WAY more money now than it ever has in tax receipts, why would a big government spender like Obama want to change that?
Nobody can force a private corporation to do anything(well you can, but I think you know what I'm trying to say). Research/innovation/evolution is up to the respective companies' board of directors. You're simply not going to get a detailed breakdown of every policy at this time... not tonight. I don't know why anyone would expect that now -- that is something that would and should come out in the coming months.

I think he was just suggesting that he'd encourage such research and innovation. And if the established companies don't want to wake up to the necessary change in the next years and decades, then I'm sure other companies will be happy to step it up -- with the possible Obama administration behind them (initially).

I agree on nuclear power plants... it's sad that one hasn't been built in decades, but oil is nothing more than a stopgap -- I mean, yeah its cheap as hell, but in due time we'd be right back where we are now.

The second part, I haven't done research.. that will come later once I go over both candidates and other offices and make my final decisions on who I want to vote for come November.

They are simply saying this. I really, really, doubt they would vote for McCain. There would have to be some serious contempt for the man for them to do that.

My mother left the living room when Obama came out to speak. She can't stand him and is a Hillary supporter. I just lol'd. :lol :lol

Similar thing happened to me.I left the room to watch Obama's speech in another room since my mother, father and brother are all Clinton supporters and changed the channel as soon as he came on. Now my brother is in the next room showing them the video of that Pastor guy making fun of Clinton. They are so pissed off. :lol

You see, I usually don't bother getting too involved in politics or vested in particular candidates. The more I think about it, the more frustrated I tend to get. Maybe I'm too cynical.

What a fucking speech, though.

I pumped my fist at the "religion as a wedge and patriotism as a bludgeon" line, but there were so many others. Graciously acknowledging Clinton's efforts, and then tearing into McCain while never loosing his calm and maintaining respectfulness, Obama simply brought it tonight. If he can pull off even half of what he says, then we're well on our way to getting past the bullshit of the last 7 years.

Going up against McCain and all his vitriol and arrogance, if America doesn't elect Obama in November, we've had it.

This may be speculation, but I'm confident in my numbers: you won't find that ratio applies to votes when it comes to election time. :p
You heard it here first. Obama will get 512 votes to McCain's 25.6 in the electoral college.

TWO THOUSAND PERCENT MORE!

Seriously, all they would be proving is that race, gender, & the primary outcome determined their vote as opposed to the issues since Obama & Hillary are almost indentical policy wise.

I hope that no American would sacrifice the good of the country for such reasons.

Hunter over at Kos nails it:

Jeez, McCain's people made a huge mistake scheduling a speech for tonight. Just huge. Compare McCain's sleepy, awkward sentences and forced grins to Obama's dramatic speaking style. Compare the venue -- McCain's was small and sleepy, Obama's is huge and energized. McCain's speech got interrupted to talk about Obama. And Obama has managed to hit McCain on the very themes of McCain's speech, a mere hour after McCain rambled through them.

Giant, giant blunder by McCain's team. A head-to-head speech comparison on Obama's biggest night of the entire primary. What GOP idiot thought that would be a good idea?

We have the first black nominee for president (or its equivalent) of a major party in all of the western world in history.

Think about it.

Again, I don't think there is any good way to substantially lower oil prices within four years. What solutions would you propose? Would you like the government to subsidize a large portion of his car, or eliminate tariffs on automobiles so they are cheap enough for him to buy? I honestly don't know if the man he mentioned in his speech really has much of a recourse at this point, but that rhetoric does not go over very well (see: Jimmy Carter). I don't think you have realistic expectations for his speeches.

Epic speech. Just epic. I don't know what else to say.

I'm so glad to be able to witness this guy possibly become the next President of the United States. One of the most interesting (and not to mention, inspiring) things to witness in my life thus far.

Keep in mind you're arguing with a libertarian that wants to know how Obama will personally make gas more affordable, but despises any government intervention or regulation. It's a lost cause.

I didn't say there WAS a good solution. He shouldn't have said it if he wasn't going to address the man's concern though. I think the best solution in all honesty is to increase the supply of oil. I don't have a problem with other things, encouraging new research, working to convince companies to adopt other forms of energy usage, etc. But I think the best way to lower prices is two fold. You have to decrease demand, but you also have to increase supply, that lowers prices naturally.

She said she's not making any decisions tonight.

Her tone sounded like she was conceding...but didn't say it outright.

One of the curiosities about Mr. Obama is his professed lack of interest in the writers who pore over that life, trying to deconstruct his fractured family and geography. He claims not to read profiles that pile high in his plane.

“It just encourages the narcissism that is already a congenital defect for a politician,” he says. “I find these essays more revealing about the author than about me.”
