You know, the more I think about it, the more I like this Town Hall idea. It further cements just how fucked McCain is. If you look at the criticisms about McCain's speech last night, there was just as much about the aesthetics of the whole thing and McCain's stage presence as what was said. Also, as Maddow pointed out, McCain doesn't do well with spontaneous speaking- that's actually where he's fucked up the most. And now, he has to stand next to an energetic, younger, taller person which will only amplify the notion that McCain would be the oldest man ever elected president.

As for the questions, McCain already starts out with a handicap because of his links to the party. From what I've heard of his "ideas", they don't distance themselves from the last 8 years of the GOP nearly enough to be visible. He still won't admit that the Iraq war is a mistake, which is something that impacted Hillary's campaign and was part of what nullified her experience argument.

Then, after the Town Halls end, the next event is going to be the DNC convention, where Obama once again gets to give a historic speech as he officially accepts the nomination on the anniversary of the "I Have A Dream" Speech. Media coverage like you wouldn't believe, and I also expect Obama to give one hell of a great speech for that event. And I would assume that after that, Obama would go back to stumping and doing what he does best.

Anyone see Maddow on Countdown tonight?

Keith: Why after last night would McCain ever want to be in the same place as Obama?
Rachel: I don't know, maybe to speak in front of a large crowd?

:lol :lol
Hah I called this a few pages back :D

Obama: And together we can cha-

IF YA SMELL!!!!!!!!

JR: BAH GAWD KING!!!!

Don't get me wrong - I totally smell what Barack is cooking and I would vote for him if I could. But does anyone else think that the press coverage can get a little too fawning at times, even for such a historic candidate? I mean seriously, do you ever see any other political candidates with photos like this in the news outlets?

This type of stuff is practically hagiographic.

We have all been toiling in the pits of hell for 8 years, the press included. Let us enjoy the sunshine for a while.

All that Hillary talk of RFK's assassination, and here we are with her conceding/endorsing [in private to staff] on the 40th anniversary.

Correction: RFK was shot on the 5th, died on the 6th. My bad.

Good lord, even I had to look that one up. And you know, now that I have, considering that his election would be a miracle, I am all for the dubbing of Saint Barack Obama.

Of course the media is fawning for him... he's charismatic, new, has a backstory, and is already a historic figure (to some extent).

Imagine how the media would be if Martin Luther King Jr. were still alive...

Besides, the media likes to give the public what it wants. We want hope. They're giving us pure hopium. It tastes goooOOoooood.

Srsly. I love what Jon Stewart said to McClellan when Scott said he must be loving this, and Stewart's response was something like "not as a sentient being I'm not."

The press has been glowingly positive about Obama at times, but at others they are incredibly harsh: see the Rev. Wright scandal.

And, I'm pretty sure that photographers try to take heroic-looking photos of every candidate. :p

God I hope Time or someone puts the fist pound on their cover. The media fascination with that moment is hilarious and wonderful.

Um...McCain's not exactly photogenic. Especially not when his campaign seems to think the best way to portray him is in front of a big green screen that makes him look even worse.

As for Hillary, we don't see shots like that because you can't publish shots of a woman from that angle without a lawsuit.

And yes, the media's incessant fawning sometimes makes me uncomfortable. Leave the fawning to GAF, we do it better.

I'm just disappointed Colbert didn't use this image as representative of some Libertarians.

I'd feel bad for him, if only I didn't revile his policies so.

Freedom is a terrible thing for some people (He made a LOT of mistakes, DOMA and the Patriot act are very nearly unforgiveable, but at least he's totally recanted)
