Wall Street Journal - Obama Campaign: Clinton will not be Obama's VP

Sen. Hillary Clinton, who refused to concede after Sen. Barack Obama claimed the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday, will do so Friday, two top advisers said. Close supporters suggested she would like to be his running mate, on a unity ticket.

But close advisers to Sen. Obama signaled an Obama-Clinton ticket was highly unlikely. People in both camps cited what several called "a deal-breaker" -- Bill Clinton may balk at releasing records of his business dealings and big donors to his presidential library.

A day after his history-making declaration that he had enough delegates to be the nominee, Sen. Obama ...

OH MAN. OH MAN. OH MAN. I GET TO SEE CLINTON AND OBAMA ON SATURDAY.

They are coming to New Orleans to speak at a mayoral convention here. The day after shit goes down.

OH MAN.
And they'll actually have enough respect for the people of New Orleans to pronounce the name or their fucking city correctly.

Oh dear. That is definitely a sign of things to come.

Thank you Bill, but fuck you at the same time.

I wonder how he feels about the treatment.

Last few weeks, everyone has been treating him as if he is a big kid. How he always needs someone to "keep a leash on him" and "shield him from the media", how a condition of Clinton VP might be that he has nothing to do with the campaign due to the baggage he'd bring.

He must be pissed.

I must say, he and Hillary scarred their own legacy, no one did it to them. I hope they realize that and don't try to sabotage Obama for it.

Relax guys.

A couple of days ago we had Ickes promising to take things to Denver and it looked like the only way to bring the party back together was to have Hillary as VP. But now, only days later, Obama is the nominee and Hillary destroyed any shot she once had at being the VP. After the stunt she pulled Tuesday night, every friend she once had in Washington has jumped ship. Have any of you watched any television today? She has absolutely no sway - in the Democratic party or in the media.

If she had only been graceful Tuesday night she still could've forced her way onto the ticket, but she went out there and spouted the exact same divisive rhetoric that she had been using for months - at a time when a divided Democratic party longed to be one again. She thought she could use her 18,000,000 votes as though they were some kind of bargaining chip, publicly extorting Obama, she went too far.

Last night completely backfired on her, and because of her overbearing pride she just couldn't concede the nomination, and by doing so she lost any chance she ever had at becoming his VP.

Yup. I've been saying this all day. It's remarkable how the newscycle in this election has magnified every single thing in its grasp.

I'm glad they're nipping the Clinton VP slot in the bud immediately.:D

Lisa Cavuto is kinda in denial mode for some odd reason though.

This is also pretty much why I won't believe these news reports saying she's going to concede till I hear it. I also think that during her speech she will again mention the popular vote, being the stronger candidate, and how millions of people want her to continue.

BTW....looks like Obama's "come to Jesus" talk with Lieberman had an effect:

While Lieberman Wednesday declined to say whether he would continue acting as a surrogate for McCain in attacking Obama, he stated that he would not put his work in Congress in jeopardy by participating in the McCain campaign.

"Obviously I support Sen. McCain ... but I can only do so much as long as it doesn't interfere with what I'm doing here," Lieberman said.

When asked whether his activities should bring his role as chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee into question, Lieberman said he would leave that decision up to the Democratic Caucus. "That's up to my colleagues," he said.

:lol :lol Got it off Kos, apparently it's from a subscription site?

so she's conceding/suspending on FridaySaturday (to accommodate more of her supporters). I guess everyone she talked to DC today was like "you will be dead to us if you don't suspend and endorse ASAP". I wonder if Obama will be there...

I do like how the whole thing is Clinton supporters saying "what the hell? Get the fuck out of the race" while all the Obama supporters are just "Hey, take your time, it's all good" hehe.

What does this even mean:

"Breaking news update: NBC - Clinton will endorse Obama, won't waive right to have name placed in nomination"

it means, while she acknowledges Obama will and is the nominee, she still would like her named called, and applauded, at the convention as a candidate. I think that is 100% AOK, she deserves the right to hear it called, see her votes come in, thank them, then have the party nominate the person she endorsed, Barack Obama. it doesn't mean she'll still campaign for herself, or anything else, just that she's holding on to her delegates so she can be acknowledged as getting closer than anyone else has and still lose.

I'm happy that Hilary is finally going to endorse Obama, so good for her. Now the Democrats must use all their resources and destroy the Republicans.

Wall Street Journal says that Obama's campaign doesn't want Clinton as a VP

could this be overcome? yes. will it? as they all told the WSJ, this appears to be the deal breaker.

Theoretically sure it could be overcome, but it's a good reason not to take her and an example of the first batch of baggage attached. Plus it also makes it look like it's not because of Hillary, but because of Bill;)

Regardless of what Bill would or wouldn't do, I don't think Obama would pick Hillary based on what I've been hearing and reading. If he wanted Hillary he'd talk to her about that later, and wouldn't have put together this team to go out and find the best person for the job.

Okay, in the half hour it took me to drive home NPR went from reporting that Hillary would concede and endorse Obama on Friday to her "acknowledging his delegates" (which sounds filthy) on Saturday but not dropping out OR endorsing him.

WTF is going on?

Does suspend mean the same as concede?

Is suspend just some code word for, "I'm not compaining anymore for now, until something horrible comes out of Obama's closet or he is harmed in some way."

That and if she doesn't suspend the campaign then her options for paying off the debt shrink considerably.

Plus, everybody suspends, hell I think Romney is still suspended.

Huffs has the Saturday confirmation but still says she's rejecting AND denouncing the idea of her winning the nomination, ever.

It certainly could mean that, since she's in second place, and since superdelegates don't technically vote until the convention, it leaves her in a position where if Obama is somehow seriously damaged before then, it could be given to her. That said, it sounds the intention is now for her to actually endorse him on Friday (Saturday?), and that should stop any active superdelegate courting.
