Glad i stopped visiting game review sites a long time ago.

Also, aren't these the same people who complain about users bombing reviews of "woke" games like BF5? I guess it's a good practice but only when they do it.

Polygon is one of the sites I have on my RSS Newsfeed to catch up on what's going on. There's a good reason I don't give them, or Kotaku, any clicks, so I just read the headlines and catch up on the news somewhere else. What a BS world we live in where gaming journalism has turned into outlets for their own political agenda.

Since you did not link an original source, I looked myself and found some Facebook conversation, which did not state he would rate the game worse because of it. Just that it would influence the text, e.g. mentioning that someone he deems transphobic was involved in the game. Since this is what Polygon does anyway, I see no bigger issue here. Unless you have other proper original sources. Not watching random Youtube videos unless they are the original source though.
 
If I was the developer I'd put a very basic tutorial at the beginning of the game. Something very simple that even a child could do, but make it mandatory.

Like a child lock but for Polygon journalists.
 
reviews are informative text..if you are not gonna give me informations straight because you don't like the guy who made what you are reviewing, then your review is useless to me.

OK, that's what I found as well. It does not sound any different than the established modus operandi of Polygon (discussing staff leanings in reviews).

I've not seen polygon come out and literally lay it out that if such and such is going to be involved, there will be ramifications to how the game will be framed on their site. Hardly subtle and no two ways about it in this instance. Like holding a gun to someone's head, a whole new level of disgusting.

They have done it in the past and I feel this sort of framing is implicit in how the site operates. I actually think it is preferrable for them being upfront with it so potential readers can decide on their own if they feel this dimension to reporting on the games is of interest to them or not.

The basic problem we have is that video game journalism is dead. Reviews aren't a thing anymore; just go on Twitch and watch the game.

Therefore, we get this sort of bollocks in its place; to try and get clicks. Manufactured outrage is a commodity that sells.

It's not even just the gaming journalist.
It's the gaming industry as a whole, publishers, developers, youtubers, regular gamers etc.

As much as being poisoned is, perhaps, preferable to being gas-chambered.

Why wouldn't you be able to bring yourself to criticize a stance whereby the merit of a game is not dependant upon the merit of a game but on extrinsic factors?
 
Just further proof these so called gaming journalists aren't remotely passionate or even care an iota about gaming. They only want to spread their warped ideologies everywhere and use game journalism as a social platform to express these views. It's getting preposterous that this is what gaming and journalism has become and it's getting perturbingly worst each day. I especially don't trust the majority of these review sites now. I hate the fact they good old fashioned game reviews are becoming more and more rare and we are seeing more of this political crap instead infesting everything of how enjoyable the game is.

Equilibrium, which in my opinion is a fantastic movie. The fight scenes are excellent.

Not that I'm disagreeing but it's really 'corporate journalists' who are the problem. And then those who seek to emulate them.

If a blog looks like it could come straight out of 2008 then it's probably sound. For example, Tom Chick over at Quarter to Three.

Why does anyone give a shit what "games activists" think or review. Decide for yourself what you want to play and enjoy. Once you do that and stop worrying about "reviews". You'll enjoy games a lot more.

P.S. The Quartering is just an attention whore. These YouTubers on the right are just as attention seeking as the left's Youtubers and game sites.

I personally do not care for the politics of creators of games as long as they do not influence the game negatively, but others do. It is fine if a publication exists where people who do care about such things can trust they are discussed in the product reviews so they can make an informed dicision. If you do not care for this perspective, read another publication. This is incomparable to killing people.
 
What REALLY sucks is when this game does poorly—because it's exclusive to a platform that I believe no one will ultimately support—these soy latte-infused "journalists" will cry victory, and break their arms by patting themselves on the back.
 
I'm really curious how someone refusing to refer to another person as anything other than the sex they were born as occupies a space in the minds of these people right alongside refusing them employment, marriage, ownership, voting, or any other restricting discrimination that has a noteworthy impact on their lives. You'd have to be pretty damn unstable for something like that to matter that much to you. Calling someone what they were born as has somehow become no different than running around brutally beating trans people. "We will ruin lives to protect feelings!"

I really dislike both Polygon for not having any semblance of level headedness as well as stuff like The Quartering for making a business out of being outraged about it and giving them attention. This whole culture war annoys me because people on both sides are trapped in an eternal cycle of outrage over the other following some blind doctrines instead of sensibility and empathy. Fuck them all.

I can't understand why political or societal views become so important in gaming ? When I was Younger I was listening to Led Zeppelin a lot, they were junkies and alcoholics, I didn't like their way of life but their music was amazing beyond that, what they do in their personal life wasn't my problem and if in someways it helped them gave Birth to their music, then so be it. Why gaming should be any different ? When I play a game, it's not like I'm forced to spent an evening with its creators, I just play their game and I like it or not, that's it and if I find a content too problematic, I stop playing it. I did that with Manhunt back in the day because I don't mind violence and gore but I dislike gratuitous violence but I'm also supporting the right for a developper to make the game he/she wants and if it's not my taste, it's my problem, not his/her fault.
 
I doubt they actually believe the shit they write,. They just know what the flavor of the month is, stir the pot and exploit it to get those sweet sweet clicks mang.
