Pope Goes Full Socialist, Calls for 'Legitimate Redistribution of Wealth'

more money than God
Lead by example. Start selling the countless billions of dollars of art and assets inside the Vatican and redistribute.

Or you know, pay taxes, since taxes go towards public services.

But you won't do either of those things Vatican, and you know why? Because that's something that Jesus might have done :p
I used to feel this way, but the Vatican keeps most of these things open to the public for anyone to view, poor or rich. I'd rather have that than have these works in a private collection.

I'm not saying sell to random rich white dudes, I'm saying sell to museums and other places where the art can be appreciated.

I hate to tell you this, but the Vatican is not a guarded fortress that only allows Catholics inside. They are and have been appreciated where they are now for centuries.

Angry Grimace

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
If the Pope said "Vote for the Democrats," would it have an appreciable impact on elections?

My parents are Catholic, and my dad is very much a "fuck you I got mine" far right Republican. He must despise this Pope. It makes me chuckle.

you mean the voice of god? the one man who can communicate directly to Him right now?

why would he hate his god?

Nothing wrong with pro-life as long as it follows a principle of consistency.

I think there's nothing wrong with any view as long as it remains self-contained. I see a difference between a pro-life person who actively tries to dissuade others from aborting, and a pro-life person who acknowledges their view is their own and cannot be forced on others. Same applies for other views.

There is nothing socialist about paying people what they are owed.

Problem is people are being paid way more than they are owed. For example the gap between CEOs pay and their employees has grown massively with no justification.

Capitalism works, it's just been done wrong at the moment.

People who fail should not be earning money.

Topics like these always remind me how out of touch the GAF is with the world and how fortunate they are.

If there was a try worldwide wealth redistribution, 99.9 percent of gaffers are are to be negatively effected in a major way.

$26,202 is the net worth per capita of the world.

While many people may think "Wow I don't have that much right now, win win for me".

This is not how much cash you have or how much money you make in a year but all your assets. Your car, your computer, your education, your house.

Now think about it if you parents how only had $26,202 net worth in asset. How would they drive you around, how would they feed you, how would they house you?

To get an understanding of how bad this is for the average America. $143,727 is the next worth of the average American. $26,202 would only be higher than the poorest 10 percent of Americans.

This. I'm legitimately afraid to post in Pope Francis love thread because any time you try to express admiration for the Pope while politely disagreeing with some of his policies, you get labelled a cold-hearted Republican sweat shop owner. So, I'll just say that I like that the Pope has started a dialogue on poverty and inequality, even though I disagree with his proscribed solutions. I admire him for not being a technophobe while making a point of shunning luxury and extravagance. He's not just saying that we should be more modest, he's living it and I admire that. As opposed to John Lennon singing about Socialism in Imagine, but then living an extravagant lifestyle.

As a side note, I always cringe when people use an expression in the form "the blank of blank"; i.e. "the economy of exclusion" or "the culture of death". Don't know why, it just sounds smug and faux-academic to me. Liberals, conservatives, and independents all do it equally and it always gets under my skin.

Yeah but the pope isn't really advocating we take all the money in the world and distribute it equally.

Nice strawman tho.

It sounds cool and everything but he should start by commanding the catholic church to sell their wealth for redistribution.

Edit: and fuck his views about abortion. If the church is so interested in the "natural" conception and death, they should stop using medicines and hospitals.
Pretty much. Lead by example by selling the golden thrones and bejeweled hats. STFU otherwise.

And his views on "natural death" are hilariously outdated.

More of stating what real wealth redistribution means not selective ones for the basis of self interest like we already have.

It's almost as if he's read the New Testament! It's easier for a camel...

But fuck his views on abortion.

He can have his opinion on abortion but I certainly disagree that this is something that the state should have any say in.

You can go to the Vatican and see it--you can probably see proportionally more of what they have than at most museums in fact (where only like 10% is usually on display.)

More to the point, most museums don't have the money to buy even portions of the Vatican's collection, and they're frankly more likely to fold than the Vatican.

I don't believe supply side jesus ever said anything about that.

no, they rationalize it away

The guy's reading of scripture seems sound, although I would point out the pretty obvious hole in his interpretation is that governments in a modern form didn't exist during the time of the Bible's writing, and couldn't actually redistribute wealth in the same way. Also, that I don't think telling rich people 'you should be more generous' is likely to work.

Cool, so I don't have to work and I'll still get money? I think I'll take the day off.

(not sustainable)

That said there Ned's to be a correction for 60 million CEO pay and them hooking up their buddies with board positions and stock options.
