Popeyes to launch Chicken Waffle Tenders - chicken strips deep-fried in waffle batter

I an eating lunch atm near a Popeyes. Im swinging by there immediately after this and trying it. I love me some chicken and waffles.
 
Just had this for lunch. Didn't realize how big they were. And...

Although I didn't get the sauce, which was disappointing. Didn't know that when you didn't get the meal, you didn't get the sauce. Oh well, more motivation for me to go back and get it again.
 
Oh man I'm all about this. So ready. Hour lunch break, gonna go get me some of these. $5 for 3 big strips, mashed potatoes, and a biscuit? That is a damn good deal (especially since the last time I went to Popeye's I felt like I got seriously ripped off for their nuggets).

Edit: The OP says Cajun fries but I'm assuming you can ask to swap that out for mashed potatoes?

yeah you can pick your side. Its 5.99 here in Canada, same deal as the states... 1 dollar more for a drink. Mine came with sauce.
 
Yeah to all those who think it's too sweet, I'm afraid I will have that problem too---you guys think this chicken tender would go well if dipped in cajun gravy?

I think I'm going to order the sauce and have a side of just gravy to see
 
I ended up not going. Lunch took longer than i thought and i was too full. but I am planning on swinging by around 5pm!
 
had it for lunch- pretty good for fast food standards, but for the price i'd rather swing by a restaurant nearby that does a legitimate chicken and waffle really well for the same price (i don't like any of popeyes sides anyways, louisana hot sauce packets makes them tolerable). sauce was good (verrry sweet, hardly mustard EDIT: oh, i guess it's not intended to be mustard?), but no replacement for a packet of maple syrup honestly.
 
Not available in Canada. I got all excited when I saw that the author of the post in OP was from Toronto.

YES lunch time! Had a caller at work that prattled on for 27 minutes, I was afraid she was gonna cut into my delicious chicken time. I'm off to grub, I'll post my impressions soon!
 
Loved them. The size threw me off as they were at least twice as big as the regular tenders. The waffle flavor rubbed off on the biscuit and was just a divine little bonus. I had them with the maple sauce and it wasn't too sweet for me. I'll try the remaining strips with the bbq sauce and see how that goes tonight.

As a diabetic, sounds like I should enjoy these already hooked up to an insulin drip in the ER.

I'm still going to get some for dinner. Who needs a leg?
 
The batter it's really light and airy, almost like a tempura batter, but a but thicker. Reapply great crunch to it with a small hint of sweetness, though it could use a dash of salt. Strips were pretty big, as that was all I ordered and had to stuff the last one down. The sauce was sweet, but it went well with the chicken and waggle coating. Get two, as mine didn't survive by the third piece started being dipped. The sauce is what gives it the morning/waffle flavor mostly.. And now I head to the gym...

Damn good, I'd say. Note that mine were made right when I ordered it. Actually had to wait for them to cool a tad before really digging in.
 
I ate around 12:15 ... 5:15 and I still feel pretty full. Breading was awesome but id go with a different sauce ... Strips are already super sweet, I think I'll try them again with a spicy dipping sauce.
 
Is it wrong that I fully intend on eating this after going to the gym?

1 hour of cardio, 1 hour of weight lifting, and then this meal?

I'M WEAK :(
