The album is unabashedly pop and it does it well
I've still got to listen to Birthday, but my main criticism would be everything is very similar. When listening to the album as a whole I can see tracks kind of blending in to each other

And while they will no doubt end up being ingrained into my brain after massive radio success, none of the tracks have immediately grabbed my attention

Birthday is great. It's just a straight up fun time jam and I love it.

Turns out it's about a txt msg but the music's pretty. The production is consistently better than the lyrics and Katy's delivery on this album.

Lorde – whose ‘Royals’ has done reasonably well in America – has a) met up with Dr Luke and would b) like to write songs for Rihanna and Ellie Goulding AND K-Pop acts.
Chatting away in the forthcoming issue of Clash Lorde says, in response to a question about her new-found success making her phone ring: ”I’ve heard from lots of people – almost too many to mention! But Dr Luke was particularly impressive. It’s like, “you’re Dr Luke. You’re like Rambo”. He’s pop royalty. I imagine him living in some ice palace with Nordic maidens and windchimes. He’s cool. I find what he does so fascinating.”
Basically she met him and it was amazing. The idea, it seems, is that she’ll write for other artists.
“I haven’t written for other artists yet but I definitely want to,” she adds. “Obviously lyrics are a huge part of my music, and they’re so personal to me, so… It’ll be such a challenge to step out of my body. I can’t wait. Rihanna would be fun to write for because she’s done EVERYTHING. And I’d love to write for – or with – Ellie Goulding, actually.”
When it’s suggested that she just invents a girlband and gives them loads of songs, she says: “Girlbands are only cool if they’re so ridiculous it’s awesome, like the K-Pop girlbands with twelve people who rule the country. I’d write for a Korean girlband, definitely – some of their melodies are the best pop.”
