Professor Layton and the Unwound Future |OT| !elzzup a s'tI (20 Picarats)

So, I wrapped up the main story last night, and I gotta say, I'm impressed with the mature and realistic direction that they took with a lot of stuff. (Other stuff like
giant robotic fortress of doom
nooooootsomuch.)

In particular I like how at the end
when Claire is saying good-bye, I totally expected them to have Layton smile wistfully and wish her goodbye as well, because that's the ideal of a perfect intelligent gentleman who's wise enough to know when to say goodbye.

Having him break down "no, I can't say good-bye again!" and crying after she left, staring up at the sky....
it gave the character a humanity that I really liked, one that they'd been building through the whole game as well.

Also, some really dark yet "mature" (read: not over the top ridiculous) stuff in this one, like Layton
getting assaulted and spending several months in the hospital close to death
When I saw that I was like "holy shit really? This doesn't feel like a kid's game anymore"

Overall I loved the character development that they gave him this time around. Some of the best CD I've seen in gaming honestly.

"But I'm not a Gentleman yet...!"

Man tears, for the 2nd time in the ending. After Layton's breakdown, that was amazing

Yeah, right there with you! Same here!

Oh man, I just started playing this game and the first thing that got to me was the fantastic music!! It's definitely several notches above the past two games, not that they weren't great as well.

I've already been listening to the soundtrack for years :/

Finished the game last night. The ending was man tears sad. T_T

What a fantastic and fitting end to the trilogy. Can't wait for the next trilogy :D

yay :)

I already feel like I'm back home again after playing a good 60 minutes. The story presents itself pretty interesting from the very beginning and I enjoyed the first bunch of puzzles I've seen (even though the second puzzle was already a tiny bit too abstract for me :lol).
And after playing Nier very recently I can't help but hear Grimoire Weiss speaking there. :lol Nier brought Liam O'Brian really to my attention.

The wording to Puzzle 45, the Bus ones, sucks. I even got the catch it was getting at right away, but it it says there is 40% MORE tourists in the upper level then the lower, not 40% as many.

No it doesn't.

I still got it wrong 3 times. First # of passengers. then "oh yeah, tour guide" then "OH YEAH! Driver"

Is it me or does Puzzle 81 has two solutions which of one the game doesn't acknowledge?

Can't I just change the 2 of the second dice to 0?

Just beat the game,

And wow, absolutely incredible, I cannot believe the ending, like others said, tears were shed, some of the lines were really well done, I especially loved that
they brought back the Layton 1 theme for some of the scenes
:D

I loved the plot overall, possibly my favorite of the 3 games.

Now to finish all those hard puzzles that always take me forever to do.

Is it wrong that I checked to see if my DS was in arms reach and decided I'd just take your word for it? :lol
I checked to see if I had 157 yet, I don't :/

Now, #57,
I don't think the #7 plate is that usable, it does not look like a 7 very much when you turn it.

Is that Liam O'Brien playing Dr. Stahngun?
I'm not the best at picking out VAs, but he just sounds kind of like Dr. Tenma from Monster.

Also, is it me or dose Chelmey act very different towards Layton then he did in the 2nd game? In the 2nd game, it felt like "I have no clue who you are, get out of my way", now it feels like "Ah, its my old acquaintance of many years, Professor Layton! Do you have any leads on this case my good man?"

I noticed that as well.

In the first game he actively disliked him, if I recall correctly.

seems like an overreaching arc. First game it wasn't him. Second game they didn't exactly make a good first impression but the 3rd game Layton has proven himself to Chemly.

The mystery was lame and predictable. I'd be disappointed if the mystery in this game was lame and disappointing though, so I guess it delivered in a sense. The human drama was touching though. I almost shed a tear at the ending.

I decided not to buy this day-one and pick up Hotel Dusk 2 instead, but i hope that the game (and thread) has more - ahem - success on GAF after the European release.

I will buy a US copy anyway even if i live in Europe, because i want the US dub.

Also fans of Professor Layton shouldn't forget this :)

Wouldn't the US and Europe have the same English dub?
I wouldn't know if this gets dubbed into other languages or not though.

Professor Layton has the same voice actor, I think.

Luke doesn't (in the previous game), and I don't like the UK one.

I am going to give it a few months to see if it comes out in the US with the real VAs.

Erm, Luke is a little child in that movie.
He would have a different VA anyways, I think.

And Layton is always Layton.

After the 2nd game I just accepted that the Layton twists are meant to be silly. It reminds me a lot of Doctor Who.

I'm also already at like, 90 hint coins, because I've used so few (I'm at 56 puzzles at the moment)
I just abuse the save feature so that I keep all my hint coins. :D

This game's puzzles seem harder than the old ones, but it's satisfying to solve them, especially since I'm playing the Japanese version (got it on sale at Book-Off.)

One puzzle was pretty dumb, the one in front of the casino. [spoiler"]Casino"[/spoiler] was the first answer I thought of, but I doubted it because that would be too corny.

I'm in the middle of Chapter 3. My guess for the plot is that it's
a parallel dimension where Layton never became a professor, and Don Paolo is disguising himself as Layton in order to fool the main Layton. Also Layton's ex-girlfriend is in on it and is going to make this universe's Layton take the fall.

I didn't cheat that way. I just played the game, and in the end, finished the game with over 100 hint coins. I just found the puzzles that easy for the most part.

Not necessarily a bad thing, but the game is nowhere as difficult as Diabolical Box.

Agreed, the puzzles were a lot easier this time around. I felt that it helped the pacing a lot though, since while I was always engaged with "that's an interesting puzzle", I was never stuck for two hours on the verge of throwing my DS out the window.

Stayed up til 5am finishing the game. Story is about as anime as the other two games, but the ending was so good I was willing to suspend my disbelief (unlike the second game, which was just stupid). Puzzles were about on part in terms of difficulty with Diabolical Box's, but there were a few that were plain poorly worded (the 40% bus one previously mentioned, and the one where you had to match the outfit colors).

As for the ending, wouldn't it be ironic if
having to say goodbye to Claire for a second time ends up driving Layton over the edge, thus creating a self-fulfilling prophecy for evil Layton?

Puzzle 148 is WRONG!!

"Here's a math problem. What's the least amount of matches you can move to make it right. I + XI = X"

The answer's one. Move the I in XI to the left of the X. I don't know what the game wants me to say, but I'm right here. Time for a walkthrough.

It's not wrong.

Ask yourself this. How would it be solved in Australia....

The end twist was ridiculous, did they ever explain how
they managed to get artificial daylight underground? I'm sure all those super-intelligent scientists would have noticed that something was up...

Just finished up the game, took a little over 12 hours. I have a few thoughts.

1) I really don't see Clive's reason to bring Layton into the situation at all. I mean, he gave a reason, but it was sort of half assed.
2) The major plot twist IMO is even more implausible then the original one! And in light of the final minorish twist, annoys me more! A small copy of London under London, at the size it is, in a way that makes it so you can't even tell that the sky is fake! 10 years into the future is more logical!
3) I can't be the only one who feels uneasy about Bill getting off the hook completely. I mean, I was expecting ether him to go off to jail to, or it to be shown to not of caused the explosion on purpose.
4) While it may be stated, I guess its implied Subject 2 was Beeasly? Which I don't like how he gets tossed out of the picture by that puzzle girl for no real reason other then for a "HAHA, I CAUGHT YOU OFF GUARD!" moment.
5) If not for spoilers, I think a gif made from when Don Polio takes off his Layton disguise would be great. "I am not Professor Layton, your argument is invalid!"
6) I do find it neat that Level 5 was able to indirrectly fill in all the plot holes that came up with Don Polio taking Layton's place for a bit.

Very nice game.

No, the correct answer is to turn your DS Upside down. How many matches did you move? But is the equation right now!

Picked it up today. Already put a few hours into it. I'm in chapter 2 or 3 I think, not sure. Story's pretty weird, and it actually feels a little different from the first two games. Probably because of the Layton flashbacks. The minigames this time round seem more fun. The toy car game is a good improvement over the hamster one, because you don't need to go look for extra toys just to be able to complete it, instead each stage is self-contained. Getting stickers for the picture book makes a lot more sense design-wise.

Ahh ok, so that means Dr. Stahngun is probably Liam O'Brien.

Holy fuck #124, "The Last Tile" is an awful puzzle.

I had to look up the answer.

Just fucking terrible.

No idea at all what they wanted me to do.
I bought all the hints and the S hint and still not faintest idea what they wanted me to do.

I really gotta agree. Though I HNGGGGGGGG'd when
she mentioned their "Unwound future"
.

There was some mature stuff through out the game and it had a lot more personality and story and character development than the first 2.

Before it was a charming game with clever puzzles tied together with a neat little story. Now it's something I'd play for the story alone.

I hope the 3DS layton game is a launch title. 3DS day one if so.
