Professor Layton and the Unwound Future |OT| !elzzup a s'tI (20 Picarats)

Just finished it. As convoluted as the story is, I did enjoy it better than that of the first two.

One question though, to those who've finished it: I may have missed this (or even accidentally skimmed through it), but is it ever explained
how Layton found out that Dimitri is a mere pawn of Clive? Or even how he knew 'future Luke' was even named Clive? Seemed like he sort of jumped to that conclusion
. It seemed to me that, with the information he had at that point,
Layton should be quite content to simply believe Dimitri to be the sole mastermind
.

Man, I really want to play Unwound Future, but I'm not really willing to until I finish all the puzzles in Diabolical Box. Thing is, finishing all these puzzles is a challenge and a half.

Damn you, Garbage Disposal!

mid-way through Chapter 2.

best Layton yet? DB was kind of disappointing in presentation, story and, to a lesser degree, puzzles, but UF seems just as good as the first if not better in all of those aspects. Instantly fun story and the puzzles have been genuinely great so far. I liked Puzzle Agent, but this really shines a light on some REALLY well-designed puzzles.

It's quite simple really.
When you explored the base across the river, Layton already noticed there were tons of weapons being developed and moved around. He knew that Dimitri had no interest in firearms or warfare. The natural conclusion is that someone is running a weapons project behind Dimitri's back. As for Clive, Layton mentions his name along with Dimitri Allen a few times earlier on when talking about the investigation with the inspector. The conclusion we can draw is that these are the only two people who were related to the incident who eventually vanished from society - leading Layton to conclude that they are the most likely suspects involved in the case.

this game!

anyway, question, does the parrot game actually mean anything or does it just keep generating random levels?

This is the first of the three I've felt inclined to complete every single aspect of...hence I ended up giving it 10/10 for Cubed3's review :)

Roll on the fourth game and the Brownie Brown RPG that's included ^_^
I won't feel confident until the forth game is officially announced for the US and London Life is confirmed to be in the game.

I really hope Level 5 is handling the localization. Nintendo already removed one extra feature from the US & PAL versions of Diabolical Box, I'd be crushed if they did it to LL.

what feature did they remove?
One version of the Japanese release of Diabolical Box came with the mini-game Layton's London Holiday which features 12 puzzles from Curious Village. It also had an Inazuma 11 demo, I believe.

My least favorite of the three titles to be localized. Gotta love how
time travel is too ridiculous to be true, so they explain it as a life sized future London built underground, with a giant Howl's Moving Castle-esque robot. ... And then they decide to include some real time travel too.

The story books were cute, but I hated having to wait to get my stickers.

I prefer the car minigame to the hamster one from the last game, but the camera mini game is leagues more enjoyable than the frustrating parrot game.

Just finished it. Wow at
the ending! First it was completely epic then horribly sad :( :'(
For me that's the best of the three to come out of Japan. Musically it was top notch, the story was my favourite too. Only complaint is that after two Layton games the puzzles and gameplay aren't as fresh as they were first time round. Still, really, really enjoyed this :)

Forget which puzzle it is, but for the one with "What is the fewest number of stamps to make a valid math equation"

Was I the only one who picked 3 and 5 still thinking "Turn the 5 upsize down, 2 + 3 = 5!" due to the plate puzzle, and finding out "Haha, no, 3+5=8 though, YOU WIN!"

I didn't think that the twists were as crazy as Diabolical Box.
Still, quite crazy, but at least I had some clue as to what was actually going on.

I don't know what it is about this game but I'm liking it so much more than Layton 2. The puzzles are just so damn good in this one, and it feels like they've worked out a really nice balance between the story and puzzles.

Plus, I really like the mini-games in this game.

Just finished it today, the game would just not end! In a good way though, cause it always kept getting more and more crazier with its plot and it paid off very well with the ending. A lot of the twist were hinted easily enough that when the twist was presented it wasn't a surprise by then.

BUT
when it was revealed that Celeste was Clare and she was going to go back to the moment she died, it was just so sad that Layton gets her back only for her to be immediately taken away. That scene made be all teary-eyed, not ashamed to admit it just felt so bad for Layton.
That alone made the story and especially the ending the best of the three games. The puzzles were the easier of the three games as well but I liked it cause there was never any that were frustrating beyond help without a faq to me. Except the final cardboard cutout puzzle, I fucking knew what number it had to be too! Stupid puzzle.

Overall, I felt the puzzles as a whole were easier, but I thought the ending puzzles were harder than the other 2.

Time Traveler
Finished it just now.

It's a lot better than PL2, the puzzles where A LOT easier than that game, but they were also easier than the first game (which is the most balanced IMO).

Now PL1>3>2, puzzle wise...

The story was very interesting, although a little predictable
in the sense that it was clear that the future wasn't the future, and that big Luke was a fake
.

Awesome game, got right many things the second game got wrong, better pacing and story.

Now, to get some extras and finish the 12 remaining puzzles in story; parrot game is fun, and the car mazes are really interesting =P.

Nice to see that they have already started advertising the game on UK tv a full ten days before release.

And I just looked on the NOE site and noticed that they're offering a nice little Layton sleeve/box to Club Nintendo members that have registered all three games:

Might like to add the small print:
Promotion valid until 31/12/2011 ..., subject to availability of stock... NoE have only said a limited number available not giving a number like they did with Metroid Prime trilogy gift.

...*cries* Even if I did live in Europe, I bought Curious Village used...

It's gonna get destroyed by the Royal Mail anyway.

Unless they send it out flat and you have to assemble it yourself.

Anyway, it's a decent enough incentive to get the game at launch. Well, that and the fact that it isn't the kind of game that retailers are going to slash the price of.

Almost time to remove DQIX from the cart slot for the first time in 4 months.

So! the game is almost out in Europe.

I bought the US version and got it today, can't wait to start it - i wonder what the differences are.

Luke's voice, i guess, and then some puzzles?

I also have to ask a big favour related to that awesome box right there: if someone by any chance gets a Layton 3 European registration code that he doesn't need... i'll gladly take one.

While the topic is bumped, I might as well state I did not think the battle of wits was executed well. Could of been done much better.

My copy was posted today.

Even though I only finished the second game a few months ago I'm ready for some Layton.

I feel like I'm constantly reminded that I need this game.

But damn it, I won't make the move until I'm done with Layton 2. Disappearing Act 6 is a real road block though. My oh my. But hey, at least it's giving me time to save some money.

I need to track down my Diabolical Box cart. I'm going to want to play all three again before Layton vs Phoenix comes out, and that's the only one I lost. Sure, I've got it on my M3, but that's not the same...

Now to claim my free Layton case from NOE so that I can cover-up the superior Euro box-art.

I haven't gotten very far in the game, but shouldn't the title be "!elzzuq a s'tI"? (I mostly play my DS when traveling or waiting for something like my daughter's dance class.)

I think I must have become dumber or at least less patient since the last game.

I have already had to turn to a FAQ for three out of the first thirty puzzles.

I'm a little less patient and i used about 30 hint coins already, but i decided not to use more.

Btw, question time.

About
Flora
: did her voice actress.. change? i hate the voice she has,
but i loved her voice in the first two games.

What the heck?
Is her voice actress the same in the European version of the game?

What are the differences between the US and European version, other than Luke's voice?

And if there's some Layton connoisseur here, why did they change Luke's voice for the UK version in the first place?
