I wish I could share you guys' passion for this game. I never get this excited about anything in my life.

Wait, did I miss a confirmation of something or are we all just assuming that this is the project that SCE Japan is working on with From?
What do you mean by confirmation? The game isn't announced, Sony isn't going to confirm anything.

But yes, we are very confident that it is.

Although I think Sony's show last year was really weak, they also essentially did half the show in February. If they'd kept KZ, Knack and DC for E3, it would have been a stronger show.

I can't see any 'no used games' type things, MS just isn't fucking it up hard enough for Sony to have any free hits. They can brag about selling more consoles, or having had the right position from the start, but people would just read it as arrogance.

Games are really the only thing that matters this time. They could announce Morpheus' name, specs and release date, but that's the only 'initiative' type thing I think we might see. They'll probably have a notable third party exclusive, Persona 5 or whatever, some hot shit indie thing, Miegakure maybe, but it really should just be a barrage of first party PS4 games, everything else is secondary.

I imagine they'll spend way too much time on third party stuff, I can already feel my eyes rolling at ten minutes of Destiny. AssCreed and Batman too probably. I'd love to know the logic behind featuring third party games so heavily, other than failing to make up the time without them.

That's definitely true (about them doing half the show in February essentially). Now we're all loaded up here.

And yeah, Microsoft isn't serving up a fuckup on a platter for Sony to slam on. They've got to bring it. I just wonder what they'll bring to the table.

Shit, on that matter, what is Microsoft bringing?! We don't know shit! PLAY THE FIGHT RIFF JOHN MAYER

I want them both to bring it. I want that level of competition again. I want to be able to say "Wow, I need an Xbox One AND a PS4". I did that with the PS2 and Xbox. I did it a lot less with the PS3 and 360. So far, the only Xbox One thing that excites me is Sunset Overdrive. So I want MS to bring it at the show and just make me go buy one. Because I'm a gamer. I like good games. No matter what console they're on.

I doubt a game of this magnitude will release the year it was announced.

Yup they need time to market it properly. I think this time Sony is VERY serious about making this game into a solid exclusive IP.
It also looks like the game still needs a lot of polish (dat screen tearing).

If Uncharted 4 is fall 2015 then this is summer 2015

If Uncharted 4 is summer then this is fall 2015.

Or maybe March + June?

Sony loves themselves a March release date and I think after the success of TLOU they are gunning for more summer games.

After careful review of the WebMs, it looks like the "whip" is actually some sort of retractable scythe (like with dual modes: short range and longer range). Is this mysterious dude you play some sort of stylized "death" or "grim reaper" like character, I wonder?

The Order will be in March IMO.

Ask Square Enix?

I'm hoping that Sony will step forward, negotiate a deal with SE and fund it themselves.

If SE is too dumb to do it, Sony should whatever sum of cash before them to make to assemble a team and make it happen for PS4.

Sony would not only be guaranteed to sell a good number of PS4's with the game, they would almost assuredly recoup every dime invested and make a large profit off the investment.

It is known. And it's not a scythe, it's like a giant collapsible straight razor. Someone posted a nice concept illustration of it earlier.

I always wondered the same thing.
I think it's just a case of don't shit where you eat. Sony almost certainly could have sued, and won, and stopped Dark Souls, but why? To cripple From and burn Namco? Not being a dick has got them From's next series, and allowed far more interest around the studio in the process of having DS1/2 be successful. It couldn't have gone better for Sony.

Supposedly GG's game is targeted for Fall 2015. The Order's targeting Feb/March. So I'd assume Uncharted is a Spring game and this would be in the summer. Just a guess.

Could Sony have legally stopped it though? Are there patents on game design and similarities? I have never heard of any developer getting sued for copying another game's themes and ideas. If it were possible companies like Gameloft would not exist right?

I'm thinking

Project Beast, Early Spring

Uncharted 4 Late Spring possibly summer like TLOU

GG new IP, Fall

Far better bet that it's just laziness. It's how Youtubers get away with all their IP theft. There's no real money to be gained from suing small companies.

I have a lot of skepticism about an FF7 remake. Would it actually be cheap to make? What level of fidelity are people expecting? Does FF7 still have the fanbase to make it a system seller? As far as remasters or remakes go, I don't see this one as being a low-risk venture.

I don't know if the FF7 magic can be recaptured.

No one is holding out any hope for Uncharted 4 this Holiday?

They could desperately use it this year people, now that The Order was pushed to 2015.

I sincerely hope that Sony isn't just going into this Holiday with just a delayed launch game and a PS3 port "Remaster".

http://www.heavyspectrum.com/

It looked really cool. I hope they're still doing something.

There is nothing else than a CG trailer and some artwork though.
I had a look at the company's other games and it leads me to think it will be a smaller game than I thought it would be (i dont mean it in a bad way). If it ever comes out anyway.
They did work on bigger games like NFS though so I could be wrong too.

I never played the Amiga game and I wouldn't say the trailer thrilled me, maybe the public reception wasnt very good so they decided to can it or something.... no one knows

Whatever Sony are doing this holiday, you'd have to be crazy to think Uncharted was ever a 2014 title.

Dude, it has been a source of major interest, excitement and passion for years now.

OF COURSE it would turn a profit. I cannot even imagine a world where it would be a flop.

Plus, its not only the biggest FF title. ITs the biggest one in the West. That would help continue to spur sales in markets Sony is in major competition for, right now.

There is a disappointing lack of the phrase "moneyhat" in this thread.
It's not a moneyhat if they actually help w/ funding of something that otherwise wouldn't of been made. See also: Microsoft w/ Sunset Overdrive.

You technically can't patent ideas, only copyright them. And you can't even copyright ideas; you can only copyright material based on an idea.

It would be a complicated case, and Sony might not have actually won, but they could have kept it going long enough that From couldn't have sold it and Namco couldn't have funded it. It wouldn't be patent infringement (although certainly you can patent game design concepts), it would be trademark infringement, essentially that using the Souls suffix on a similar product would harm future earning for Sony.

I don't think Sony would have ever considered pushing for an injunction, they know they fucked up by not shipping Demon's Souls worldwide, they'd have known they wanted future exclusives by From, it wouldn't have ever made sense to try and stop them. It's very bad PR too.

When was the last time a remake was a system seller?

I really don't see the logic there. If we were talking about The Order and Uncharted that would be one thing, but a Souls game and Uncharted?
And I really doubt sony will ever release an Uncharted game outside of the holidays.
