Fifield being all mutated/alien like would have been much better... why the hell would they have changed it?

worried that people wouldn't know who it was?
Maybe the practical effects just looked silly?

I know. I don't like those reason either. :/

Probably hoping for too much, but I hope the bluray has original Fifield mutant design and original proto-xeno design at the end. Seems to me both had a lot of work done on them before being replaced.

Vickers should have shadowed Shaw and she would have been alive. Or she could have realized that she was never going to outrun the falling ship and just go the other way.

I think this was the inspiration for the space jockey suits:

^ dude, I don't need to see that before I head out for my break.

Vickers should have shadowed Shaw and she would have been alive. Or she could have realized that she was never going to outrun the falling ship and just go the other way.

What she should have done was run left.

lol.

It was supposed to be "hey audience, Vickers was a bitch so now we are going to make her stupid and she is going to get crushed." This was supposed to please us but instead we said "lazy writing."

For us that are seeing the action from a nice far away point of view is obvious you should go left, but neither Shaw nor Vickers had that point of view, all they know was that there was a giant ship falling over them, so you just run. I did not have problems with that reaction, Shaw was saved only because she stumbled and fell, giving her only rolling as her option to scape.

This really annoyed me, especially as the wheel was relatively far away and not an immediate threat.

I don't think so, debris from the ship was already falling right next to them.

It was a terrible death, no question about it, but is realistic, I love how people are all "lol I would have run left", tell that to earthquake/tsunami/tornado victims, people aren't smart in dangerous situations, obviously. If anything I liked that little bit of realism.

I also think they wanted to leave a little doubt on if she was a robot, so killing in a way that shows no blood was a must.

Also I'm amazing I have heard no one say Shaw surviving the ship crashing on her was dumb, because it was.

dude, didn't you see the sparks as the ship hit the rock? That super rock saved her life. it's totally believable that the planet has rocks that can sustain the crushing weight of a falling ship and only produce nine sparks. (seriously, count them...there were nine sparks)

Didn't she threaten to find the wire that makes David run and pull it out if he did not tell her what Whelan said? Wouldn't she know where that wire is and what it was called if she was also a robot? Unless she was programmed not to know.

She was
the original face-hugger
.

Took me longer then it should have to get that one. Nice.

She also had sex with the Captain, although things could be pretty evolved down there.

But was she really? What she did was expected and understandable. She even showed remorse afterwards. That's why killing her in a very villainish way made no sense.

Also I'm amazing I have heard no one say Shaw surviving the ship crashing on her was dumb, because it was.
We don't know how hard were the rocks on that planet.

I'm not saying she is or isn't, just that they might want to let the question stand, crushing her makes the death definite (either way) and obscured.

The characters in Aliens still handle themselves professionally and would have killed the shit out of those Engineers, if they ever woke them at all.

No, they would have stared at the Engineer like a turkey into a rainstorm until he actively got up and twisted their heads off. Then they would have insisted on splitting up during their escape so that they could be more easily picked off. There's no reason the entire Alien crew should have bit it to a single xenomorph if they were any more competent than the crew of the Prometheus.

Been thinking a lot about why the Engineers want to kill of humanity. We all know that they have been coming to us through many civilization right? The human race has treated the Engineers as gods when they came from the sky.

What if 2000 years ago they came to the roman empire and where treated as gods. But somewhere someone started to question them if they really are gods and so on and started to demand for eternal life. That way it pissed of the Engineers (which came with ships not having any black goo) and returned to the military/research base and then got overrun by the a,items or vsomething.

What do you mean?

It definitely looked like Vickers and Shaw were swerving while trying to avoid the ship but that thing was fucking homing in on them. I believe the Engineer was still driving it and making sure to squash them while he can.

The amount of pods they had, + multiple ships, I'm pretty sure they wanted to wipe out more then just humans. Or they just wanted to start to populate the universe with a new species, like starting from scratch.

They weren't initially but yeah they did swerve a few times, but why swerve in different directions several times? lol

I don't think they were intentionally swerving so much as running on the landscape

What do you mean?

Like staring at a facehugger egg for a full minute, watching it pulsate menacingly, only to stick your nose into it when it's creepy labial folds open up. Or like sending one man alone into the the vents to kill this obviously dangerous creature. Will fire even work? Who the hell knows!

I don't hold these instances against Alien, but anyone saying the crew of Alien is somehow more competent than their Prometheus counterparts are deluded by nostalgia.

Why would you name the ship that's going to be flying to the sun 'Icarus'? Why not the SS Gonna Fail?

Prometheus is also an unfortunate name, he did not have a happy ending.

Which disappointed me a little, I was expecting some biological nightmare in where the crew, or some members of the crew, ended up with their organs being harvested for eternity or some other horrible scenario that was in line with the myth. Given the cesarean tease in the trailers, I was truly expecting Shaw was going to be giving birth after birth of some nasty creatures or something along those lines. What we got had little to do with the actual Prometheus myth, except being punished by stealing from gods, but thats the basic of many myths, Prometheus has a darker and more disturbing specific angle.

Best Buy has a lot of blurays on sale now. I got T2, Independence Day, Predator and Aliens for 8 bucks each. I wanted to get Master and Commander and a few more Aliens but I figured I had enough for one day.

Just saw it.

What the christ did I just watch. An Alien movie without a fuckin single alien? Why was the chick husband infected? Why did David do it? Why is there so many characters?

Nice job removing any mystery with the space jockey too.

Also, I want a rock that can hold a 1 bilion ton spaceship please.

Basically, great art design, great landscape shots and the rest was terrible.

Also Stringer Bell as a space ship pilot. I'm okay with this.

It wasn't an Alien film and it did have an Alien in it. Does that make sense?

Actually, David walking around the ship by himself while the others are sleeping is more likely a no to Cameron. Cameron has explained that it was a scene he wanted for Bishop, but didn't have time to film. It's on the Aliens commentary.

Bishop walking around the Sulaco as just another part of droning mechanical life whilst waiting for the others to wake up.

Except that you're taking about the characters of Alien.

Shame it wasn't shot, can't wait for Cameron's PROMETHEUSES.

Which reminds me it was kind of weird that Ash is seen in hypersleep with the rest of the human crew in Alien.

Those were massive 2001 references.

My friend said the same but I'm not sure I'm seeing it.
They were showed only briefly, but I think they looked quite different, outside the color of course, but that's almost the default color for space suits.
They reminded me of an atmospheric diving suit more than anything.

But again, they were showed quite briefly, so I might just got the wrong impression.
I've been trying to find a good picture of them online without much success so far.

Edit: I do think that the interior of the ship are heavily influenced by 2001, so there might be something to your theory.

Edit2: found this image -

I see it now and I understand why I didn't get it at first viewing.
Nice.

Another thing that keeps bothering me

So Prometheus had Weyland, founder and owner of the company, on board. Supposedly the trip cost tons, so I am sure it wasn't a hidden secret trip. People, at least at his company, know about it. Not only that but his daughter is on board too. They both die. Yet before Nostromo nothing of this incident is known, investigated, or discovered?

Of course they could address all this if they do Prometheus 2, but considering how Alien begins with no knowledge of previous events, it just seems impossible.

Send in the clones.
