Okay, confirmed by Collider Frosty in an interview with Guy Pearce and Charlize, the original cut is 2h27 minutes, so yep Ridley cut quite a bit, cant wait for the director's cut. I wonder if maybe he cut the whole thing to make it PG13 (he did say he had two versions ready just in case: PG13 and R), but the MPAA gave it an R anyway.

So yep, Pearce says (dont know if he jokes or not) that most of his stuff was cut, Theron had a scene after she burns Holloway where Janek is comforting her.

I think that Ridley wanted to widen the audience for the movie and Fox probably had something to do with it too (after all, they made him cut 17 min from KOH).

Btw, check out this link, there are some pictures of some of the art and make up of Prometheus, among which a super cool design for Fifield, creepy, that they didnt end up using (might have been distracting I think) and a different design for the Proto-Alien:

That is very good news.

This would have been so much creepier than the xenomorph we actually got.

It's only video game magazines that we can't post scans of, right?

The Vickers android ambiguity is just Lindelof's shitty 'If we leave the possibility open by hinting at the possibility (through the oh-so-subtle mentioning of issue), then it makes for a more involved audience engagement in the story!' mentality.

She isn't an android. Lindelof needs to stay the fuck in television. The shit he pulls doesn't fly in a self-contained two hour narrative.

So the 'squid'... it's a giant evil sperm, yes?
That's what I thought of it as.

Man, that scene was insane. Self-performed machine alien sperm-monster surgery abortion which then turns into a sloppy monstrosity with vagina dentata that orally rapes and inseminates its next host.

A few (small) problems for me now that I've had more time to think about it - the pilot banter before the big moment at the end felt really cheesy, almost Randy Quaid in ID4 levels of cheesy but they didn't quite go there, thank god. Definitely felt like a lot of stuff had been cut out of the film, can't wait to see a director's cut of it. This was flawed and completely over the top, I expected a bit of a disaster but really loved it. I haven't stopped thinking about it, which is a really good sign for me.

That "xeno jockey" concept art reminds me of this micro machine I had as a kid

In the assembly cut the creature looks like that when it comes outta the ox too...

I much prefer that, yeah. It's more obviously not a traditional xenomorph and would have fewer people leaving the cinema going, "Why didn't they just set the movie on LV-426 and we could be done by now?"

Question:

Why did Vickers have a personal surgery unit in her living quarters if it was only configured to be used on male patients?

Just some random venting i need to get out of my system:

The hokey make-up on Guy Pearce distracted the shit out of me. Why not cast an an old actor? So dumb.

I eyerolled so hard at the 2 nobodies sharing their cheesy feel-good line before they suicided. Total "wtf?! is this shit?" moment.

I hated the way Vickers was killed. It would have been nice to have Vickers and Shaw play off each other in a future film and not make her character seem so worthless. Although, if she's a robot, maybe she had her consciousness downloaded into a new body cylon-style!

The cg aliens sucked. I can't believe they didn't go with practical effects.

Barring the final xenomorph reveal, i felt it ended on a relatively strong note with the interactions between Shaw and David and it left me looking forward to a sequel... as long as Lindelof isn't involved.

I assumed it was probably for Weyland.

They didn't cast an old actor because they shot scenes of "young" Weyland that didn't make it into the movie.

Ah, didn't know that. I still think it was a poor decision anyway. Aging make-up rarely comes across well. They could have easily had another actor play old Weyland and it wouldn't have been half as cheesy.

Yeah, agreee, but I guess it was easier/cheaper just to age him.

I don't see how it can be anything but a comical shot, but cheesy?

I thought it was completely out of place. It was the only shot that almost made me groan. But I was alone in the cinema so controlled it.

It's especially cheesy since there's no remorse from Shaw for him killing off her lover, inadvertently pregnating her and being all conservative about abortions, bringing the old man with them, and generally being some psychobot. Now she's got some 70s sci-fi robot companion for many space adventures, finished off with a "I love you too, Liz" smile. It was just weird.

She doesn't know David infected Holloway, and it's hard for her to fault him for his programming (being loyal to Weyland).
I don't understand how people look at David as being evil and betraying them. He does some bad things, but also some good, like rescuing Shaw/Holloway in the storm. Wanting Shaw to go to sleep was pretty sensible too, but obviously she panicked and found a way to survive.

Doesn't she give him a massive evil look at one point? I'm pretty sure I didn't imagine that. She knew he knew something about Tom Hardy that he wasn't telling, for sure.

I can't really remember. But can somebody explain why Shaw pretended to be asleep and beat the others crew members out of her way as opposed to asking for their assistance with the med-pod?

I'd like for someone to come up with a good fanwank as well. I found that part unbelievably stupid.

I didn't see that ending outcome coming. I have seen ALL trailers and tv-spots and I felt 100% sure everyone would be wiped out. Shaw and David (super interesting duo) pairing up for a ambitious sequel is going to be awesome. Ridley was right: The story is the surprising part about this film.

There were millions of details in this movie, definitely need to watch it a second time.

Great film.

Because the Scottish woman was unbelievably irritating and kept reading out the messages on screens aloud. She had to be stopped and, even while impregnated with a hellspawn, Shaw knew her priorities.

I've seen the movie 3 times and can't recall this "massive evil look". But towards the end when they enter the pyramid she clearly states "we still don't know what infected Holloway".

Not quite sure what you're referring to that he's hiding about Tom Hardy. I'm pretty sure she's not aware he's hiding something though.

The way I see it, she's panicked. She's got some freaky shit inside her that's getting close to clawing it's way out. The other crew members (the scottish one and some random security guy I think) are going to put her in cryo, which to her probably feels like certain death. Would you take your chances and try to talk them into helping you do a crazy surgery, or would you run for it? Her decision makes sense to me. /Fanwank, I guess?

That's when the look occurs. She says they still don't know what infected Holloway, David insists that it certainly can't be the air inside the pyramid, and she gives him this knowing, awestruck look.

Err she heard what they were saying.

What were they saying? "Dr. Shaw, come on - time for beddy bies" is all I recall.

It's a stretch to say she put 1+1+1+1 together just like that though and realized David must have secretly stolen some black goo and put it in Holloway's drink.

Really? Fuck, I couldn't tell what was CG from what was practical...

And it was in her quarters because 1) foreshadowing oooooh, and 2) Shaw needed to know about it for the end of the movie.
They couldn't, y'know, hide it like they did Weyland, never mind how much more sense it would have made.

TVTropes never fails.
The more of your posts I read, the more I realise and agree with how awful the script is for the movie. The cinematography, sets and atmosphere were stunning - which is what appeals to me most , I think - but nothing else stands up to scrutiny, at all. Plot holes all over the place. I'll blame my tiredness at the time for this extremely slow realisation :p I think the quality of the visuals masked the rest.

Why were those previously freaked out guys in the pyramid suddenly cool about seeing a fucking alien worm thing without any appropriate reaction - even after his arm is snapped?! Why didn't Scottish follow her after she escaped the medical area? Why did those guys at the end just fly to their deaths with smiles on their faces and joking with eachother? Just seemed set up to jump from situation to situation without any rhyme or reason. Total mess, disguised by beautiful visuals.

Anyone else feel bad for the engineer who got monster raped? That huge sinister thing forced a trunk down his throat and unloaded a damn bathtub. With all the squirming and 'relaxation' animations following up. Jeez.

I wonder if Elba's character questioning Vickers being an android was a cheap attempt to revive the Decker replicant debate.

No, I think he was clearly just taunting her, no different than "I hear you're flexible." She obviously isn't if they shared a bed and no surprises came out of it.

And when she points out that it could be the air, David helpfully replies "nope, wasn't the air".
"How do you know that?" -> "...".

Well it clearly wasn't the air, as everyone else including shaw would be infected and dead by that point. Sort of ridiculous that she didn't press the issue though.

And speaking of Shaw, why didn't the two people in suits follow her? It was just like "oh well, she got away". And then vickers never goes back into her suite and see blood everywhere and a tentacle monster in the med room?
