Such a terrible screenplay. Picking it apart isn't even fun, it's just depressing.

Yea, after realizing that David's intention was to create life of his own, to be a father, all the shit where he didn't remark on Shaw surviving made sense. It was all his idea, really. Weyland just wanted to meet the creators. David wanted to BE a creator, regardless of the costs.

This is a very cool idea, but it goes absolutely nowhere in the movie. He basically shrugs when he sees Shaw with her stomach stapled, and then he does nothing related to this for the rest of the movie.

i hate that disgusting self abortion/goo shit..would rather they delve into the mythology than that gut wrenching crap

yeuch /pusha t

You are part of the problem.

Ah, alright.

I love that they gave David the ability to think enough for himself to behave the way he did in this movie. I can't quite explain why I think this was a good decision, but it just felt superior to Ash in my opinion. I would never shit on the original though.

Ash is superior because he didn't have any robotic tendencies, he seemed human right up to his climax. David was amazing because of his robotic nature.

Original Engineer sketch found!

Was this directed to me? David followed orders, I thought that was clear. He had to do what Weyland said. Now if Ridley had ever shown that David was conflicted and starting to make his own decisions, I would agree. But all of his actions could be seen as him following orders. I think.
Him infecting Hollway and keeping Shaw's pregnancy to himself was pretty clearly him going outside his orders. That right there throws a lot of his actions into question. I don't think Weyland had any presumption or knowledge of what the goo would do to shipmates , the whole mission was exclusively about Weyland getting to know immortality and perhaps even the meaning of life in his final days.

This is so true.

I like how he let Holloway hang himself with his own words. The scene is beautiful as it's framed as Holloway talking David into David infecting him.

Haha, yeah.

I wonder what David will do now that he can make up his own decisions (considering Peter's dead along with Vickers and there's no one to give him orders, assuming that he didn't really have his own agenda and was simply following Peter's orders along with satisfying his own curiosity).

I just remembered something: remember how the geologist was pissed off and made a big deal about how he was going back to the ship (beckoning others to come with him)?

Soooooo....whatever happened with that? Sounded like a good idea, since he got fucked up shortly thereafter.

movie implied they got lost. he was distracted by stalactites.

Not much, seeing as he is a paperweight now.

Yeah I don't understand how he gotten lost like that. I also really don't understand the whole helmet thing. Once the dude got sick they should have just kept them on assuming that is what made him sick. Then again the helmet thing was just odd to take them on and off leaving them on the ground.

It would have been cool if he tripped some sort of security system and he and the biologist got trapped in the temple. It would have explained why they couldn't wait by the cave entrance for the storm to clear, because they were trapped in an area that hadn't been mapped.

Not much, seeing as he is a paperweight now.

Maybe Shaw will staple him back together, hahaha.

Was it him going against orders, or doing something on the side? I thought David gave Holloway the goo because he thought all of the Engineers were dead, thinking it would produce more Engineers or something.

Even if that's not the case, it coudl still be how I said, and since Weyland didn't explicitly say, DO NOT GIVE HALLOWAY THE GOO", it was fair game?

The cutting room floor is where that plot hole is at. No doubt, Scott thought it was fun to make it a surprise that the geologist & other dude never made it back, but found it inconvenient to include the explanation in the film.

He's a geologist who after mapping the damn place manages to get lost.

I like how nobody realized those two guys were missing until they were all the way back at the ship.

They didn't notice all of the vehicles were still at the ruins? I know they were worried about the dust storm, but still...

The auto medlab thingy was introduced with the subtlety of a sledgehammer.

I agree, couldn't he have called the ship and asked where the fuck they were? Maybe a lot of time didn't pass and they didn't think anything of it, or didn't realize they were lost?

Why is everyone fixated on the helmets coming off? Was there a moment in the movie where the helmets coming off caused a problem for them?

OH and also, when everyone was coming back to the ship, there was 4 people correct? 2 people on each little dune buggy. But then there was this little van in front of them. Who the hell was in that?

They noticed but they assumed they walked it or some shit. Thinking about this movie just pisses me off. All that hype.

I mean yea, it could be exclusively a side mission or an entirely new direction for him guided by all the knowledge he gained in his 2 year isolation. Either way, no way Weyland could've known about the goo, or even David really until he infected them.

Why is everyone fixated on the helmets coming off? Was there a moment in the movie where the helmets coming off caused a problem for them?

They're exploring an unknown monument of an alien planet... they have no idea what kind of pathogens could be airborne. It's just really unprofessional and very characteristic of how careless and stupid the crew was as a whole.

I was confused by that myself since they have those globe things mapping out the area and the ship could track their life signs. Didn't know why Elba didn't tell them they would going the wrong way.

Maybe he never woke up?

Why did the ship never leave is what I'm asking. The guy was sitting in the pilot's chair. We find no one in that chair, but there is a sleeping dude. What happened that prevented the ship from leaving, and why did the dudes just keep on sleeping, or why did the pilot go to sleep if the ship didn't leave? Heck, there are other ships, why not get one of those?

My running theory is that the black goo makes you go insane and eventually kills you, possibly reviving you if you're already dead. The only way Xenomorphs come into this is if you reproduce if infected. The possibilities of this are very small due to the extremely quick incubation period. This would explain why the worms then mutated into the snakes as worms are hermaphrodites. So the worms reproduced once they were in the black goo and out came the xenosnake. Holloway banged Shaw and out came the proper facehugger and later a baby xenomorph.

I mean, that has to be it. We will never know, but MEH. Its good enough for now. Now, there is the stuff in the canisters, right? I remember it being like green/radiator fluid.. He snapped off the top? Were the canisters melting???? Couldn't figure that out..

That scene was great. I loved Dave. His performance was so above everyone elses in the film. Movie had so much going on, it really was the story that pulled it down..

Hahaha, I loved that. It's the one thing they did that didn't completely fuck them up.

Another thing that greatly disturbed me was how blase Elba was when he informed the two guys that there was some living creature in there with them. I mean it was funny (watching them freak out)....but it was also very serious.

Might be a glitch. Whatever. GOODBYE

There really is no excuse for the mapped guys getting lost / not guided by Elba back on the ship other than there is some shit in deleted scenes explaining what happened. I don't think anybody in the production would really miss that given how it's something every audience member, whether they liked the film or not, picks up on immediately. Has to be some thing Ridley found necessary to cut from the film.

Yeah Elba gave a shit less. He was just like what ever you guys die you die. I am just the pilot anyway.

I laughed my head off. There wasn't much he could do anyway as he was off to bang the wonderful ass of Theron.

He was the captain actually.

He was trying to keep them calm. Did you not notice how distressed Elba was?

If you're referencing the first movie, and the guy in the chair. That was on a different planet. Meaning that the engineers suck at flying, and handling the black ooze.

Its a very good question on why the ship NEVER left, as the first thing the engineer did when he wake up, was take off.

did they actually have a map? i know fifield released the pup probes but he it seemed like only janek had access to the map. i can buy that they got lost and then forgotten about in the hurry and confusion to get back before the storm.

Yeah a captain who wasn't really the captain. Another thing I find funny is how Theron's character comes out to be the daughter of Weyland. They try to make it a big plot point for that little moment. Then again they just added it because of the whole creator thing.

for some reason when she called him father i debated whether or not that meant he was her dad or that she was an android, since david calls him father as well.

It seemed simple enough to get out as our heroes hurrying back, spent less than a couple of minutes getting out of the caves. Fifield again was in radio contact with Prometheus and somebody should have quickly mentioned something.

It's shitty overacting. Don't even waste time speculating about it.

also i like that when janek's copilots were like 'no we're staying with you for this' when they crash the ship he's like 'whatever, suit yourselves' because it totally parallels the audience's total lack of interest in those 2 characters

It was haphazard, and again more sloppy writing. You're on an alien planet, you don't touch things, and you sure as shit don't take off your helmet to breathe god knows what bacteria you have no clue about. Which was evident when Noomi suspected they were all infected due to something airborn.

It was such a cavalier trillion dollar mission into the unknown.

Hey, I know how easy it is to just keep hitting SNOOZE. Who here can honestly say they've never overslept by a couple thousand years?

I guess...but they did have those scanners testing the CO2 and it was confirmed safe by David. I don't see what the point is of nitpicking at it when it didn't do them any harm.

I'm talking about Elba's map which had a visual link to every member on the ship.

Maybe the static storm interrupted this and it was never stated that radio communication was down? I could have swore they were talking to them as the storm rolled in. Either way, the ship had a direct link when Fifield said he was bailing out, how they never tried to turn him back in the right direction from that moment is weird.

An android would have known to run perpendicular to the damn path of a massive tumbling ship.

Her death scene was so unsatisfying

"Oh no, no no"

yeah that was kind of a wasted opportunity to really satisfy a bloodthirsty audience

that whole scene i was like 'jesus christ turn right or something'

Well... yeah. Peter Waylen is a hundred year old trillionaire crazy motherfucker searching for immortality and the creator of mankind. Dude obviously does not give a shit. He's days away from dying, I don't think he cared about the lives of anyone else on board.

Somewhere in the movie, Elba asked the (lost) guys where they were and they replied back with some numbered coordinates. So whatever they had at their disposal allowed them to know where exactly they were.
