Prominent youtuber KSI censors video from Videogamer.com critquing him

Now that I've read the posts from KSI defenders here I'm going to go to a gaming event, whip my doodle out and start rubbing it against women. If they get upset I'll just get up in their faces and scream "BANTER, BITCH" then drop my pants and moonwalk out of the room. I'll be a lad-hero.

You're comparing inappropriate conduct with criminal conduct)....

I can see your point. There is nothing funny about what he did. Nevertheless, he wasn't all physical about it.

Tbh I feel like americans dont particularly get british humour. They seem to get offended by anything we do. Most of our comedy is shock comedy. The most successful comedy movie here last year was the intbetweeners and that show would be banned if it was shown in the US.

The truth is we have very different sensitivity levels across the pound. Me and my friends most male and female make these jokes to each other 90% of the time. 23 year old here btw. My parents are alot worse aswell and they are posh.lool

Shock comedy is... extremely far from something new in the US. And nothing gets banned here really =/

I've seen a few KSI videos. His whole persona is clearly a bit of a put on. So that should probably be taken into account.

Is that better or worse?

Ultimately, he was still going around sexually harassing convention attendees. Whether that's who he is or he's 'acting' as hyper-sexist character, the result is the same.

Are you a LAD?

Are you a LAD?

haha nothing to do with that. But there is the banter culture where everything and everyone is kind of made fun of. Since the Uk especially London are soo ridiculously multi-cultural everyone is mixed from a young age and so there's a general laugh at yourselves attitude in British cities nowadays

I'm British, and you don't need to be British to understand that the guy's being a complete sexist dick to people who don't deserve it.

It's not British humour, he's just an arsehole with an audience.

exactly because the american audience wouldnt get it and the show probably wouldnt be allowed to air anyway because of the content. Watch one episode of "the inbetweeners" the uk version and you will understand what i mean.
Not really, there are plenty of raunchy and off-color shows on HBO and the like (we love south park here), but advertisers have most networks by the balls. It's just a different scenario compared to how the BBC operates. We aren't soft offense-generating machines, I promise.

Also, I've watched every episode of the inbetweeners, and aside from novel terms for pussy (clunge amused me), there really isn't much not to get. :P

im sorry but he doesnt only make jokes to girls. he makes jokes about race, console wars, sex generally, TV, sports etc.

They have focused on a few videos but the guy has made hundreds.

The truth is that if you are in the uk below the age of probably 40 you are hearing far worse jokes everyday unless you live in dorset or the middle of no where. Its as they say "banter". Right or wrong the point is he isnt sexiest he is just part of a society that makes fun of itself all the time. I live in london and everyone pretty much makes fun of each other whether its sex, religion, weight, height, social class etc etc. People have learn to just laugh at themselves.

fair enough but its clear that american sensory is very different to the UK and far harsher.

Tbh the inbetweeners isnt the cleverest show but it does show what life is like for someone that age in the UK. Anyway its not just the words its the way its presented which seperates the Uk version of the inbetweeners and the american version which just got cancelled.

I can't tell if this is a joke post or you're just not very clever

I have no idea what any of that has to do with this particular situation. Its not about people being offended, its about people being harassed, publicly at their workplace. Its just not acceptable. Now it this was just randoms on the street who agreed to be on tv, maybe you'd have something (I still wouldn't like since I don't like that kind of comedy. Its just not funny to me. But that's a totally different discussion) but it wasn't. These women couldn't just walk away. They had to sit there and hear this dude make jokes that their expense.

What the freaking hell at that Eurogamer Expo video, I just can't, omg, unbelievable

Bless Matt and Videogamer for bringing this up (specially in this very professional matter), let's get this smug out of the spot light

Also, I don't want to talk about Microsoft so much, but damn, again, they just think everything Europe cares about is Fifa, so first they include a free copy to please out all the concerns and then put a big YouTuber at the London launch event, oh man

The fuck. Someone on EG posted a Googlecache link to one KSI's tweets from July that he's apparently deleted in the last hour or so.

Classy.
That was 150 days ago. He was just young and goofing around. He's really grown since then. It's a shame this was dragged up again. He wants to move on. He's a true star.

KSI rep said:
Sexism is not something he condones or wants to be associated with. He wishes to apologise for any offence the video of 15 months ago may have caused in the short time it was on his YouTube channel

There is no denying his rapidly growing influence and how important it is to use that in a positive way. This is what he will continue to strive towards and continue to move away from any unfortunate content from the very early days in his career, when just a young lad out to entertain mates and early viewers. That is not the more aware and responsible JJ/KSI which is now developing into a true star.

It's a shame this past indiscretion his been brought up as we had addressed it and KSI wants to move on from it. I don't feel it's right to judge someone based on an indiscretion which was pro actively removed and apologised for shortly after. Especially at such a young age.

There are loads of UK comedies that have had to be completely remade for the US audience because the originals are too vulgar for you guys. The Office, the inbetweeners, peep show, fawlty towers etc etc.

I've seen two of those UK shows and neither of them are too vulgar for US audiences. The office and the inbetweeners.

It is very presumptuous and a bit arrogant to say that the shows were changed because of vulgarity in which they barely have any in the first place. I'd imagine there are 10x more shows with vulgarities in the US than the UK. One of the first that comes to mind is South Park. So dunno why you feel you are authoritative in what US audiences like.

The shit he is saying directly to the girls in some of these clips is pretty repulsive. And not in the same way as that awkward "xbox rape joke" fiasco where pretty much everyone involved agreed it was a stupid thing to say. No-- KSI is just being directly and unapologetically horrible to women (and not even in an edgy/raunchy/funny way, unless going up to women and telling them they have small tits is considered funny). I hope the level of outrage over this is in line with that. I'm all for sexual humor in the right situation and company, but not at the expense of humiliating people on video.

I feel a very real anger right now. The (what is essentially) fraud by KSI, Youtube not fixing this, KSI being a horrible human being in general, people defending KSI and VideoGamerTV being one of my favourite gaming journalism channels right now... it just pisses me off.

Best of luck to anyone from VideoGamerTV if they're reading.

Everything I hear about Youtube is that they heavily favor the complainant in these things. I don't generally hear about these things getting overturned. I'm not expert on it though.
To be fair to Youtube, I believe in order to be protected by the Safe Harbour laws, they have to respond to all legitimate complaints. With all of the complaints they receive, they have to automate this. I don't know how well their counterclaim procedures work though.

He just doesn't seem appropriate for these brands. In 150 days, has he completely changed his views? So the dude didn't delete the tweet back then but now does since all this Eurogamer history came back up. He doesn't seem to have foresight on the consequences of his speech. Has he made an apology for that tweet, too? Why is he getting his manager to talk for him, can't be sincere and apologise himself? Or then he'd make a video about it.

What's this tweet about (19th Oct), why is he linking to a "24 Signs She's A Slut" blog?

This person just doesn't seem appropriate for Microsoft's brand, no matter how you cut it. He seems to be doing fine just getting more "lad" sponsoring. Most likely his manager or whatever team he might now have tried to censor the video, which just made this all the more worse.

Remember that random russian woman who was taking down all the persona music videos? If only filing a counterclaim would actually do something.

all these videos have been taken down and are still down. I have a ton bookmark for music listening purposes and they are still closed/deleted despite the issue being dealt with.

The lengths to which some people on this thread have gone to justify outright sexual harassment are genuinely horrifying.

"It's okay because it's comedy, and everything's okay if it's supposed to be comedy!"

"It's okay because someone else on youtube did something kind of similar!"

"It's okay because companies, like, make violent video games and stuff."

"It's okay because it's, like, British, or something."

Shit on a cracker, I can't even believe it.

Wait, are we talking about the UK versions of shows being censored in the US or are you talking about the fact that we remade those shows and toned them down because they were on broadcast television stations which are subject to the FCC regulations?

Apparently, the popularity of that person and his manager are what keep his business relations with video game companies active. That they would continue to do business with him shows their ability to forgive. If the public outcry is vocal enough, those reasons will likely not be enough to continue doing so.

If you think that kind of behaviour is appropriate in public then you insult this country. That man is a terrible person for going up to strangers and harassing them. Just because he has a mic and camera doesn't male it alright.

And it doesn't matter if people tell worse jokes with friends or comedians joke about their audience because they consent to it by knowing the person or paying to be there.

Going up to a woman in a public place and asking her where her tits are or why isn't she fingering herself is not banter or 'just a joke' but simply being a disgusting person.

KSI is a douchebag, don't get me wrong, but TotalBiscuit has a habit of hating on Gaming Youtubers who have more subs than he does that he perceives that they don't deserve. He has the same attitude towards PewDiePie.

I guess you could call it professional jealousy.

I'm really disgusted by this whole thing.
What he does on his youtube channel is entirely up to him, assuming he isn't hurting anyone else.

However when his antics effect other people, such as at a gaming show, well thats screwed up. Sure some of the women were probably cool with it, but some had to of felt pressured into it. When you're hired to do a gig as a booth babe or any variation, you don't want to make a ruccus. Putting the people on the spot like that is shady.

Additionally, while Razor is dismissing this as 'he did our videos and then did this on his own time', I really don't give a shit. Razor sponsors him and therefore he represents them whenever he's in a public gaming related avenue. Same goes for EA and Microsoft. I'm glad Microsoft has atleast cut ties with him. Hopefully Razor and EA follow suit (and who knows, perhaps they'll have to if this gets main stream attention and people start contacting Razor and EA).

Flagging content to simply try and stifle being called out is down right shitty. He's had no problems letting other people use his works when they're endorsing him, but when someone uses a small amount of footage that casts him in a negative light (that he himself filmed) he goes and files a YouTube Copyright claim... which should of never been acted on but was due to the automated process YT uses. Personally I hope that YT reviews the claim and overturns it. Additionally, I think falsely flagged content should have a repercussion for the accuser. Oh, I don't know. Perhaps revoking their Youtube partner status for 365 days.

Finally, his PR guy's argument is offensive. People don't radically 'grow up' over the course of 150 days. While he may or may not have removed the video in question, he most certainly did continue to post tweets that re-enforced the antics which he had apparently 'out-grew'. These tweets? They were made in mid October.

For those in this thread who stated they act this way with their female friends, you've totally forgotten or failed to grasp the point of why this is an issue. You can act however you want in front of people you know. Don't go doing it when you represent companies and don't do it to strangers.

Americans are overly prudish over sexual content in general, but this is about a guy using sexual comments to be an asshole to people on camera in an environment where it is markedly uncool and inappropriate. If a guy wants to go up to his friend and tell her she has small tits (while not broadcasting it all over the internet) and have her be ok with that, that's up to them. This isn't that though. Like the guy in this video pointed out, it's not even so much about gender as it is about just being an asshole.

Good for Matt.

As someone born in the UK I can't abide this mutation of the word 'banter' either. Simply put it is used as a get out for cuntish behaviour.

Everything I hear about Youtube is that they heavily favor the complainant in these things. I don't generally hear about these things getting overturned. I'm not expert on it though.

Hm, that would be an incomplete DMCA implementation then. The idea of the DMCA is that the uploader can file a counterclaim and the hoster is then out of the picture, if the complainer wants to pursue this further he has to file a lawsuit.

what are you going on about. Have you never pranked anyone? Its nothing to do with harassment these people in the videos have the opportunity to not be on camera and to show them on the videos KSI has to get them to sign a release form for the right for them to be in the video before hand.

As I said previously one of my friends is also a big youtuber and he does pranks like this. For example this teletubies one that was done with KSI which actually got taken down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tieqFtJybIQ

Anyway Matt Lees does these videos every so often for view bate. Remember his Suda 51 video?
Its nothing to do with condoning sexual harassment because he doesnt only make fun of women. He makes videos on everyone and everything (including himself and his own race, family etc). He became popular because he used to take the mick out of a famous footballer Emile Heskey.

I cant believe some of you are acting like ou've never made public jokes before.

Its nothing to do with condoning sexual harassment because he doesnt only make fun of women.
So because he makes fun of other things it means he's not condoning sexual harrassment? WTF are you on? Joke poster confirmed. The guy is a cock.
