I guess this is as good a place to ask as any- is there such a thing as a PS3 or PS4 or PC to PS2 controller adapter? I have a TES+ for PS3/PS4/PC that I would love to use for a couple of my PS2 games.

Just played 007 quantum of solace and it's neat. I knew eurocom did it, but had no idea it scored higher reviews than the Treyarch version.

Fun and only like 3 hours too.
Thinking of Bond games, the PS360 title Bloodstone from Bizarre Creations is also pretty fun and hugely overlooked.

Two separate controllers failing to register all button presses, two separate (slim!) consoles showing issues reading discs.

These are dark times. : (

I've been carefully selecting titles I've been wanting to replay and I just recently picked up a handful of games. When The Bouncer first came out, I didn't buy it because of the reviews that were coming out. I remember thinking it was a game I had to play, so I rent it and beat it in a single day. I bought it loose, so this is my first time owning the game. I've always meant to buy it, but I got it loose for real cheap.

I ordered Hungry Ghost too. I hope it's good. I know mediocrity means something different because you don't always enjoy everything that's out there. I've owned my Japanese PS2 since 2007 and I had a NTSC launch console. It's been since 2006 or 2007 because there were amazing games during those years.

Yeah, one of these days I'll get around to building a custom stick...

EDIT: Just did some more reading on this. Sounds awesome. Maybe I'll try and pick up a cheap 360 stick and swap out the PCB. Thanks for the suggestion.

Glad I could help. I gutted a madcatz te and through one in years ago. I have the dreamcast and psx cords as well as usb and it works great.

I've personally used it on

Pc
360
Ps1
Ps2
Ps3
Ps4( as a ps4 stick w/timeout and as a legacy controller in sfv)
Dreamcast

Needless to say I'm pretty happy with my purchase. Its solder free as well if that matters to you.

I've been playing Urban Reign a lot lately and I'm enjoying the hell out of it! It feels like a condensed, but much more fun version of Spikeout.
Yes, it is better than that mediocrity that is Spikeout, and thankfully supports 480p unlike most PS2 games.

Was internetless for a few hours today so played some 007 everything or nothing decent bond game although shows its age now

And finally, latest entry in my PS2 collection:

Was waiting for a good deal on this for ages, so
since I didn't find one in the end, I bit the bullet and bought it anyway, before it goes up even higher. :/

So I bought a PS2 Slim a few months ago, and I've really enjoyed it.

I'm not looking to take the plunge into getting some Japanese games.

What are the best options in terms of being able to play them?

I don't like the idea of disc swapping. Ideally, I'd like to ship my console to someone reputable, have it refurbished, install a a chip and ship it back to me.

I don't have any soldering skills, so I'll need to have someone else do this for me.

What are my options? Is there a better way to play Japanese games on my American console?

I think the easiest/most future-proof way would be to just get a used Japanese PS2 in addition to your US one. Installing a modchip is a pretty tough job and it might be potentially damaging for your disk drive in the long run (it tends to put a lot of extra stain on the laser as far as I know, maybe that depends on the chip model).

You could also go the Free McBoot route, but your PS2 might not support it (unless it's an earlier Slim model).

I left a book on top of my slim lid and now it won't register that the lid is closed unless there is something on top. Is my slim dying? Should I buy a new one?

its not dying. lol if you can open it up, I'm sure just taking apart the latching mechanism will lead you solve the problem. Or... Just put another book on it.

i just fixed mine yesterday of the same problem.

i looked it up and there's 2 sensors in the ps2 slim that indicate the lid is closed. one of the tabs on the lid in the rear that pushes down on the sensor in the rear always eventually fails due to being worn out. (why a book helps push it down)

i watched a quick youtube vid and just put tape over the sensor. took be about 2 mins to take apart and add tape then put it back together. it now runs good as new.

I'm aware it's probably not the best option for you, considering what you wrote (also, I have no idea if it's something that is easy to find in the US), but I'll always suggest the good old fat PS2 modded with the Messiah 2 Pro chip, as the best possible all-in-one solution. It can play PAL50/60 European games, as well as NTSC-J/UC, just fine (I only had one single Japanese game that didn't work properly, but that was a known issue of the chip, when installed on PAL machines). Plus it comes with its own PSone start-up, which supports all kinds of original PlayStation games (multi-disc ones included), once again from every region. Last feature, the chip itself can be put in sleep mode, so you can run your system as it's 100% unmodded.

I like collecting for ps2, as they're all I find in the wild these days. No more snes or Genesis finds, but stumble on great ps2 titles for a dollar or two at goodwill still.

I find a ton of PS2-games as well. But its all Fifa, Buzz or Singstar. That system really sold to the casualz.

Hey all! Glad to be back on the PS2 train again. Grabbed an new emerald PS2 Dualshock this week online. Someone was selling it for $30. I'll post my game collection shortly for some feedback. I need to update my Backloggery unless pictures are preferred.
