PS3 Firmware 1.90 (XMB Backgrounds, order game listing, chg vid settings in-game)

Seeing that picture makes me think that the XMB should have a 'take screenshot of framebuffer' function for games. Maybe films too... but restrict it so that obviously people can't just take all the frames down then spool them together into a HD quality movie.

yeah i've always wanted console games to let us take screenshots -- pretty much every PC game does.

mainichi issho on japanese PSN lets you.. but this is the max resolution of screenshots

hey is it possible to have folders within, say, the picture category? PSP can do it... i want to make a wallpaper folder etc.

not possible. You can only group them by year or month. sucks I know.

You can't make folders, but it is possible to sort photos into folders by month or year (Press Square when over a photo in the XMB).

Jeeze, mainichi issho lets you do everything doesn it?

In game XMB access (kinda), custom soundtracks, and now screenshots?

Hope more devs take a cue from this.

So how do you sort the PSN games the way you want them? I only see Sort by Creation Date (up and down) and Format.
That feature is broken, wait till next update when I hope you can create folders.

Too bad.

So PS1 and PS2 games support full RGB now? How do they look?

Aside from RBG and wallpapers, what other nifty things did this update bring us?

The browser is definitely improved. Not only is it faster, but it only asks to load SWFs on a page a single time, regardless of how many there are. Plus it seems cleaner and more zoomed in, along the lines of the Opera Wii browser. I checked and I have all the default zoom/character size levels.
The only MIXED blessing is the Line Break seems to be on all the time, regardless of holding down the Alt key or not. No big deal, I can just tap start on this Sixaxis, but worth noting. (Before I'd hit enter and forget that Line Break wasn't the default action.)
Typing from PS3. of course.

LittleBigPlanet 1920x1080 - it should hopefully fit just left of the dropdown bits on the XMB. If it doesn't, try flipping it in the X-axis (I'm away from my PS3 and can't remember whether it's on the left or right) or I can move stuff about.

Edit - just seen this is basically a subliminal copy of the one in the PS3 Wallpapers thread. Spooky. Just ignore.

how did you get this game to work? Is there a guide or something, I have it, but it just doesn't start for me.

By the way, my current background is this purple swirl from Orisinal.com. I'm on 480i, but when saving it, it fits my screen VERY well.

From the url, it looks like it's the right update (us server folder, and today's date). If you still don't want to try it, the official playstation website should be updated by tomorrow to show 1.90 instead of 1.82.

*checks the last few pages of this thread and sees wallpaper discussion*

hmm... I guess the firmware is out.

*updates... tests MGS3 while HDMI is set to full range... checks the brightness calibration in the options menu*

....

:O :O :O

YES! YES!!!

I hope this applies to all BC games... It'd be so cruel to tease us like this. I'm just being paranoid here. Anyway I'm looking forward to starting a new Snake Eater play through and then going through so many other awesome PS2 games. :D

Didn't Sony promise this? Recording game footage, taking screens, sharing with friends...maybe they meant a particular title like LBP...but I do remember them saying something like that hinting that this was an inherent feature of the PS3.

sorry if this a redundant question.....but aside from customizable pics, are we now able to change the color of the original "swirl" theme, ala the PSP?

...once again, sorry if this has already been answered

Nope, not yet.

Cool, 1.90 fixes the DLNA sort order problem that was scrambling album ordering when using TwonkyMedia server... thank god. The PS3 is now a perfectly serviceable media client.

Very, very nice.

They also had 2 HDMI out and 3 Ethernet ports at some point.

:lol all lies

really, wtf is the point of 3 ethernet ports? 2 hdmi i could at least understand in concept.

Or alternatively they've only exposed the feature to developers recently which means that no game released so far could have had it as a feature (like custom soundtracks which was being talked about as "already being available to developers" by the SCEI engineers around the time of 1.80) and it'll probably be done on a per-game basis in the not-so-distant future.

It wouldn't surprise me if the first game to do "media export" is Singstar and that's not out until the end of August in Europe.

To act like a router I suppose? Or, so that the PS3 could be used as a cluster or something. If I ever needed to do heavy computations, multiple PS3s could probably do a better job than a PC at the equivalent price.
