PS3 Firmware 1.90 (XMB Backgrounds, order game listing, chg vid settings in-game)

Just don't blame Sony when your sixaxis spazzes during the install process and makes your PS3 cry.

Well since they're allowing you to update w/o a cable I'm guessing whatever problems the sixaxis was having are fixed now... I don't know, I haven't played anything on my PS3 in a long time so I don't know anything about these sixaxis problems people are having. When I first got the PS3 I never had anything go wrong while playing Resistance or Ridge Racer 7. I rarely played for very long sessions though so maybe that's it...

Whoa whoa whoa, they've made changes to DLNA? joiafghskdfghdkfjg I've deleted all the content that had problems streaming. Ugh.

Yeah my works better now, I could only play 1 song at a time because it would not go to the next track, it was stuck on a constant loop for the first 3 seconds of any song I finished listening to.

PS3 Firmware updates are so much fun.

"We'll tell you 30% of what we've done. Find out the rest by yourselfs!"

It's like Easter egg hunt :D !

*shakes head*

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised to see this come about when HOME debuts and Sony finally allows usXMB in-game. The idea just fits in perfectly with those.

I have to ask something: is it normal that a segment of the upper part of the PS3 browser (where the page name appears) gets cut off?

No. Your TV is probably overscanning. 1080p?

There's an option in the view settings in the browser to bring it in a bit.

just upgraded to 1.90 and SoulCalibur III still runs like crap with tons of slowdown, are they ever going to fix the emulator for this? :'(

That's a shame to hear. These software models are coming to the US soon enough as well...

About the BC: Silent Hill3 is now compatible,it runs perfectly and looks great now!
Tekken Tag is now compatible but the frame rate is horrible. It seems like except for Tekken 4 and Tekken 5 all the others Namco fighting games have performance problems.
Onimusha1&2 still not compatible.

Nope, a 720p Bravia. Bleh this sucks =/

Did they do anything for FF12 (you're italian right? so you should have the italian version of FF12)? Like fixing the orrible deintarlacing problems that shows up with FMVs when playing it at any resolution with the PS3 through HDMI? This doesn't happen for me when playing it with the PS2 on the same tv, so at least for this it shouldn't be the fault of my lame hdtv =/

Doesn't look like it, I had a sixaxis spaz after the update.

Interlacing problems with FF12 FMV are still there :(

I drop my SIXAXIS on a regular basis and now every so often it will spaz out during a game. It'll just stop working for about 4 or 5 seconds and then suddenly start working again.

I especially love it when this happens as I'm approaching a turn on GTHD and I'm about to beat my record -_-

Didn't notice. I've gotten used to hooking up the cable before the download even start :lol
that's what i did too :lol
Great update!
edit: ICO look a little better now, thanks to the full range option.

Me too :lol

For my BG, I used a KZ2 screenshot that TONX sent me a couple days ago on PSN. HAWT!

The sorting option would have been fine if the "format" option could have split up games and demos or you could decide what order to organize the categories. At the very least, they should have done that. :(

The fact that you don't have to plug in the sixaxis anymore to complete a FW update, wouldn't that have been a change made in the last update, since this one wasn't actually installed at that moment?

What exactly does the sort option for games do? My list stays the same as it's always been when I hit sort by format. Anyways backgrounds are sweet.

You probably don't have any downloaded PS1 games.

Yeah, the ability to sort by type is a start at least. Having Jumping Flash at the bottom of the screen, out of sight, is a welcome option. :\

A proper way to group media into folders is the next must-have for me, especially since I have dozens of videos.

Did PS1/PSP downloadables always install themselves or is this a new thing? I just bought Castlevania: SOTN and when the download finished it installed itself.

It always used to install itself if you didn't use background downloading. So, did you use BG download this time?

Jeeze, mainichi issho lets you do everything doesn it?

In game XMB access (kinda), custom soundtracks, and now screenshots?

Hope more devs take a cue from this.
And it was all done by updates, so games like Motorstorm should still have a chance.

Nope the one time I didn't use it. :D Guess that explains it!

Sorry for the quote train, avoiding multiple posts. :)

IIRC, Home is supposed to display videos of your gameplay in the trophy room. The moment you beat a difficult boss, or unlock an entitlement, something like that. I haven't forgotten, so I'll be looking for this feature.

They also had 2 HDMI out and 3 Ethernet ports at some point.
I miss those days. I still remember reading that Game Informer, would have owned.

:lol all lies
really, wtf is the point of 3 ethernet ports? 2 hdmi i could at least understand in concept.
Playing a lan game on two televisions, with all six controllers pointing to one console and disc. What could have been...

Wollan said:
Same here, no cable. So that's gone.
Haha, really? I purposfully turned the update into a charge session, thinking I had to connect the cable. Oh well, 2.00 I'll experience this "joy." :P

Lain said:

The only time that doesn't happen to me is during Full Pixel Mode over 1080p. Otherwise it always cuts off, which is a pain.

did anyone else notice u did not need to connect the ps3 controller to the system to update.

I didn't even think about it... But that would have been an 1.80 fix, right?

Also, the "triangle options" pop-up is a much needed subtle improvement.

Great update.

So they added it to PS2 titles now (and therefore, it works on everything)?

Sweet ... I was getting sick of adjusting my brightness.

Yeah ... we just didn't realize it until we had a new firmware to download.

Must of been 1.82, because I believe I had to use the cord when installing that one.

But if you're a SC fan you might want to try Soul Calibur 2, because the frame rate has been fixed on that.

To get the wall papers can you just use the XMB Web Browser and download them to the PS3 or do you have to set up a media server?

I tried setting up a media server through windows media player 11 but they didn't even have the option in the program to set it up. It was missing completely while in the tutorial videos and other tutorials i read on GAF it was right there in plain sight. Any ideas?

I downloaded Nero 7 last night and I heard you can set up a media server using that so we'll see..

Zero slowdown here. Don't know what you're talking about...

yeah but my gf fav character is Tira, oh well I'll just keep my PSTwo plugged and wait for 2.0 or whatever, I guess SCIII pushes PS2 so hard and uses every hardware trick available so it's really difficult to emulate in PS3 software/hardware combo.

I take for granted your PS3 is NTSC
