I installed the firmware like any other time and when it finished an i went back on it wiped out my accounts and made some new account I lost them all.All my PS2 saves and PS3 saves are gone and I have to redownload all my arcade games.

When dealing with information you dont want lost and a harddrive, you should have it backed up, which is painfully easy to do with the PS3.

To get the wall papers can you just use the XMB Web Browser and download them to the PS3 or do you have to set up a media server?

I tried setting up a media server through windows media player 11 but they didn't even have the option in the program to set it up. It was missing completely while in the tutorial videos and other tutorials i read on GAF it was right there in plain sight. Any ideas?

I downloaded Nero 7 last night and I heard you can set up a media server using that so we'll see..

You can use the PS3 web browser to download them to the PS3 and then set them as wallpaper from the photo section.

I'd say that you should let Sony know about it. The backup feature is nice and all, but something like this shouldn't happen at all, and letting them know might help in preventing it from happening ever again to anyone else.

Yeah, I found that disappointing. I wanted to sort my most used stuff to the top, with flOw at the very top because it's the nicest default overlay and I like that it doesn't block out the background wave. I was able to get flOw at the top because it was the first thing I downloaded, but I wanted GTHD and SSHD right below it. Hope this gets improved in 2.0.

Backing up your saves should be a given, I have a 32mb memory stick I move everything too once a week.

Btw, I have just tried The Getaway in a PAL PS3 @1080p + smoothing and looks A LOT better than running in my PS2 through component. But what impressed me the most was that the slowdowns (cars + crash + smoke) were gone I have tried other games were framerate is not fixed, like SOTC, but in The Getaway IT IS. I guess it's related to how the game engine was programmed...

Being honest, recently I have tried a lot of ps2 games in my PS3 and all of them work flawlessly and look better than playing from PS2. I think emulation is working pretty well right now, aside from that SCIII problems you mentioned.

I've also noticed slowdown problems with some PS2 games on my PAL PS3. I wanted to replay the first Ratchet & Clank game on the PS3 but it was unbearably slow compared to the game running on a PS2. It's a good thing I kept the old box, I'm now playing it on the original again. I checked the online compatibility guide and it says R&C was fully compatible. I guess they only check for compatibility problems, not whether the game is running at original speed.

Yes it does. It's also been discussed just to clarify your first sentence. I think there was a whole thread about it too, but it faded quickly.

It has to had been implemented in the 1.82 update. I think it's awesome. During the last update, I spent a good 30 minutes looking for the USB cable.

As a rule of thumb, always back up your PS3 HDD data before every update... so about once a month.

Since it's a good idea to back up every month anyway, you might as well just time it with the FW updates.

I just back up all my game saves to a USB drive.

If it's music or photos then I also have it on my PC or portable mp3 player. If it's a trailer or a game or a game update, I can just re-download it.

So, the only thing I'd loose would be my message box, I believe.

I also have all my old PS/PS2 game saves on memory cards from the past 10 years, so I have those saved in three places.

Have you tried to "restore system" (Or however is called in english) option inside the settings menu? You can fully reset your PS3. Then log in with your account and you should have no problem at all.

Sounds to me like you've shared a few games, as that's the only time I've seen the copyright protection pop up.

And what is your deal with avoiding tech support? Simply call them, it's still under warranty. Why are you so hesitant to let them fix your problems? Seriously, you're only causing frustration for yourself, so you have no one to blame but yourself at this point for your "anger".

This sort of flexibility is a great feature. I have a couple of 360s, one of which died. I can't back anything up onto anything other than a 64MB proprietary memory card. So being able to back up my PS3 HDD onto an external HDD is a big feature which can't be understated.
