PS4 comes with pre-loaded game ('PlayRoom' Impressive!)

I'll never buy a camera so this will just be needlessly taking up HDD space.

I wish Sony would get rid of Singstar from my XMB as well. Never gonna play it and it just irritates me every time I see the icon for it.

We'll probably never know. This would also explain why we didn't see many reveals at E3. Some games may have had to been retooled once PS Eye was dropped. Hopefully a PS Eye bundle is an option after launch. I'd probably go with that.
So you're feeling bad for no one in particular and don't have any evidence to support any of this. Got it.

And what's the excuse then for not showing more Kinect-friendly games on the Kinect-mandatory XBO?

You're dreaming if you think he has an answer for this, sorry.

It is unforgivable that Sony doesn't include the PS4 Eye with every PS4 sold. I know, I know: €399 price tag. Just throw away the headset, include the PS4 Eye (they can use the built-in microphones as a 'headset').

If they delivered the PS4 Eye with the system, developers would have a good reason to do stuff with it. For example, let's take FIFA 14. The developers could have said "We're going to make use of the camera: if the player gets angry after he/she makes a foul, we'll give him a yellow card".
But now? Why would they even consider doing this, as 95/100 PS4 owners won't even own the camera.
To me, it are these kind of small details which would have made next-gen gaming, well, next-gen.

Also, now I fear OS features will be limited. What about 'swiping' through menus, voice recognition, etc. Sure, it will offer a little bit, but it will never get much better, as the installed base will be small.

Another example how game developers could have used the camera: let's take Call of Duty. They could have said: you know what, we are going to make it possible to enable "night vision (in-game)" by just tapping your head twice with your hand.
But now? No reason to make this, as the installed base will be low.
Oh, and if you don't want to 'tap your head' for something like this, it obviously also would have been possible by using the controller.

Again, it are the small details. A yellow card if you get angry at the virtual referee? Sure. Enabling night vision by tapping your head with your hand? Sure.
It's not something gamers would have been forced to use, but it sure as well would give an advantage over PC games. It would have been a feature that makes console games unique.

Sony has been making lots of good decisions, but not to include the PS4 Eye? That's a terrible decision.
I bet that if Microsoft's price was $399 with Kinect, Sony's price also would have been $399 with PS4 Eye.

ANECDOTAL AMAZON SALES OBSERVATION BELOW:

The 4s camera has been in the top 100 for 23 days, during the post E3 rush it was top 20 and ahead off all xbox one software for at least a few days and is still just a few spots behind Forza 5.

I know this doesn't mean much of anything, but it does mean there will at least be a decent number of these things in the wild. It looks like it sold OK based on its constant proximity to forza.

Everytime I see those mini robots I think about how the PS4EYE and the DS4 would make for great Raving Rabbids games

It makes absolutely no sense to pre load this on every new console. This game is built around the camera and the ps4 doesn't come with a camera right out of the box.
That is why you're not in marketing. Cameras will be bought just for this being preloaded.

All this video shown is that the PS4 was going to include the eye, and then they saw what microsoft did at E3 and changed it entirely and lowered the price.

That's kinda awesome really, they are giving the consumer a choice.
I wanted the camera anyways and that the Playroom will be pre-installed is an added bonus.

It should keep my son busy for a while, the camera looks nice IMO (better than the previous 2 iterations).
Smart marketing from Sony's side.

So the game that is pre-loaded is not PlanetSide 2? For shame.

Also, the Raving Rabbids in a controller was way funnier than this.

At least its free on all PS4's though!

Planetside 2 may not be ready on launch day. If it is, I wouldn't be surprised to see it or DCUO pre-installed.

This has to be an example of one area Sony definitely need to improve.. Including a PS-EYE demo without a PS-EYE is a little bit questionable, but they just can't do anything remotely useful with it, so it ends up being a half-assed tickbox in the marketing department.

To back up what I am saying, looking at the demo, which looks cool initially, you suddenly realise it's really not very well thought out..

He's apparently interacting with the robot, yet he's fully turned 90 degrees to the screen, so how can he possibly see what's going on the TV?

PS-EYE: 3/10 Sony.. you need to either ditch it, or embrace it..
PS4: 9/10 almost flawless..

man, Planetside 2 ready on every PS4 will be great. SOE need to work hard to make this happen (even non complete and non full featured version will do )

I have zero interest on literally every single example you used. In fact, they all sound horrible.

You realize this happens on every motion game right? You don't actually have to look because you are seeing yourself on the TV. That's an video ad, nothing more.

Yeah, um, it's called an advert.

Maybe it's to get people to buy the camera?

sure does.

Not really, the guy responsible for creating it said it was just an experiment that they didn't realize would be popular at E3 and when he was asked if they will consider releasing it on PSN for PS4, he said yes. I can't find the video now.

I don't want any more cameras looking at my living room. Not really because I'm a NSA conspiracy nut, but rather because it kinda creeps me out. I intend on never buying the PS4 camera no matter how much Sony wants me to.

Yeah, um, it's called an advert.

It's still half-assed.. AR only looks cool in adverts, and that's the point.. of all the things to push to get people interested in PS-EYE, this ain't it..

They plastered 'Actual PS4 Footage' making it seem like this is what you'll get.. it's not a concept video..

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.

Again, you're supposed to be looking at the TV where you see yourself, like any other camera based motion game since 2003. The looking outside the TV is acting. Nothing more.

Don't waste your time. Check his post history and you can easily see what he's doing here.

wow lol, you weren't kidding.

Not sure what your point is or what you're trying to argue. This is probably free and is an additive piece of software, you don't have to use it nor is it forced on you. People who want to buy PSEye will buy PSEye, Sony is not going to jam it down your throat like the OTHER console.

For some reason I had it in my head that Planetside 2 was gonna be a launch title. It's a total shoo-in for eventually being preinstalled though, game's a pretty huge download so I think it'd be welcome.

Sony should just load up the console with all the F2P games also for the hell of it.

Would be nice to play Warframe right out of the box. =D

Also for those saying it should've came with the camera by default for developers, I can kinda see that. I also would say if developers actually made games for these things that were good then maybe people would adopt them. Kinect didn't come with the 360 initially. Developers still made games for it. But they didn't seem very fun.

But that's actually what you get. There are videos from E3 demonstrating it live. It doesn't matter if you look around your room like an idiot. A better example of false advertising this way would be Microsoft's Kinect debut of Milo. The character looked around the screen to make it look like he was looking at the person in the room. This was purely a fake advertisement trick that would only look impressive in a fixed environment where a fixed camera was filming the user and screen. If you were looking at milo from the user's pov and walking around like in that advertisement, it would have looked like Milo was looking away from you.

That IS what you are getting.

It's the fact all they've included as a 'show case' for PS-EYE is a concept that's been flawed since 2003.. that's half-assed..

The other side of that is it appears to be a weak area for Sony who seem to be struggling to think of anything truly interesting to do with the PS-EYE, they've included the lights on the controller, but don't include it in the box, and then bundle a crap 'demo'.. it just stinks of putting the PS-EYE out to pasture from day one..

It's as "flawed" as all the other devices (Wiimote/Kinect/wtv), which is to say, it isn't. You're categorizing it as another type of device/interaction, which this isn't the point of.

The light in the controller has multiple purposes that don't include the camera at all.

It's as flawed as all the other devices...
I was talking about the software, not the hardware.. You might not like motion controls, but I have kids, and occasionally do some family motion gaming with them, the Wii and Kinect have plenty of entertaining stuff..

Technically yes, but what use cases for that that aren't also a bit half-assed?

PS4 is a revelation, but this is definitely something that doesn't jive with me in comparison to other solutions that seem to offer something credible even if for family gaming..

You know what, I'm not even sure those 2 people in the advert know each other! They're living in sin!

Great piece of software that requires a camera that doesn't come with the console.. ? Dafuk. Should have made it a free DLC with the camera.

lol, it's the same fucking shit man.

Oh brother... What exactly wouldn't be an example of something that isn't half assed?

The most basic function of the led is to indicate what player you are. Blue = Player 1, Green = Player 2, Yellow= Player 3, Red = Player 4. Sounds like PS4 isn't for you and your family, time for an Xbox One and fully realized motion games such as.... err... that one kinect game that worked out really well.

So I watched that video in the link, and I have no idea what the fuck is going on. There's a constant "Actual PS4 Footage" message on the screen. But then you have people interacting with a bunch of virtual robots flying/running around their living room. How is that PS4 footage?
