PS5 : The Future Of Gaming. NeoGAF Viewing Thread. June 11th 1PM PDT/ 9PM BST

How tf was this a disappointment to people? 20 new games? LOL

People are crazy.

Nah man, this is a console reveal, people expect to see different stuff...

What we got was the same generic E3 like presentation we always get, some 15 indies and 5 games that look like could perfectly run on PS4 fat.

The only cool and "unexpected" thing there was Demon Souls remake... the rest is just the same meh we've been seeing for years now.

I would give it a 6.5/10. Too short, some good footage, some meh footage and nothing spectacular.
Don't care about SSD and it's soon to judge; however, you can't deny that PS5 is woke. :messenger_sunglasses:

how was this shit ? The game showing was incredible I saw 2 vr games - I think the fps die something looked like a vr game and of course astrobot.

Ratchet and Clank showed the ssd tech off perfectly, each time jumping between completely different worlds / environments and they instantly load - how can you not see this would not have been possible with the ps4 ??

We saw just a glimpse of spiderman - but it looked really good.

Horizon zero dawn 2 underwater looked amazing - the world looked impressive as anything.

Alright.. now for the 4K streams/downloads. Ratchet and Clank looks amazing. So far, it seemed to be the only game that specifically talked about utilizing the SSD speed

I was so hyped for next gen. Now.... not so much.

Ball is back in Microsoft's court to try righting the wrong with their last event. But so far everything besides the spec reveal for xsx has been all fluff.

Most of the games shown were multi platform or cross gen ,very underwhelming. I didn't see anything that look better than Hellblade 2 or Bright Memory Infinite.

i'm guessing there's a point of diminishing returns for photo realistic graphics and the leaps in hardware specs and graphical fidelity start becoming less of a leap and become more incremental. I was hoping for more hyper realistic graphics and the latest unreal engine being used in a real product but today's not that day.

I'll be fine with less loading, better shadows/lighting, better AI, and even less aliasing.

I am not disappointed about the games. I am disappointed in a system that was supposed to magically have all games look like the UE5 demo. Sound crazy? Well that's the narrative lots of people here were pushing.

I think people need to have their eyes examined I saw it on my tv / ps4 on twitch looked impressive - rewatched the demos on youtube:

> R&C impressive as anything

> HzD2 Take a look at this and tell me that isnt impressive I was watching the crabs at the beginning and was blown away - thats almost pixar level - its incredible.

I thought it was a solid showing... definitely got the "gameplay" aspect right. That said, I don't think what I saw felt incredibly "next gen". A few standouts for sure... but even then have to wonder how many games we saw were exclusive. Saw that one game flash "designed exclusively for playstation 5" which I felt was very curious wording... Overall a solid B.

PS5 looks very futuristic and sexy when it's sitting down, it looks like a fucking router when it's on a stand, I have no idea why Sony showed it like that.

Lots of people here have limited taste in games
I can see myself buying all of these games:

GT7
Ratchet and Clank
Project Athia
Stray
Returnal
Sackboy: A big adventure
Kena
Oddworld: Soulstorm
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Jett: The far shore
Godfall
Solar Ash
Hitman 3
Astro's playroom
Little Devil Inside
Demons Souls Remake
Pragmata
Horizon II: Forbidden West

This show did lack a fighting game. I was not expecting this amount of games for the show since I thought the show would only show like less than 10 games with a focus on gameplay and showing how pretty the games would be.

Agree with this. There was maybe 1 or 2 they showed that I wouldn't be interested in. Everything else was looking good.

Top showed for me:
GT7
Hitman 3
Demon's Souls Remake
Ratchet & Clank

People with way too much time in their hands and possess unrealistic expectations.

This happens every year: Hype, Disappointment, Acceptance of Reality.
it's sad, cause this was a blowout, Ratchet, Spiderman, GT, Horizon, free GTA, Free Astrobot, Project Athia, Kena, RE8, Demon's Souls....what do you WANT people.

I can't understand.

A test of love. If you can't love you at my best you don't deserve me at my worst...

Edit: Other way round lol.

Oh I'm impressed. My point is that Sony hyped the device to do things no other console can do. What they showed is something that can be done.

Except none of it is gameplay. TLOU2 also has amazing looking cinematics.

Would have been nice to see even a snippet of gameplay.

Just like with the PS4, I think I am going to wait for a year or two. I bought a PS4 for regular price at Wal-Mart about 6 months after launch, but I didn't really start playing it until MGSV was released.

I wasn't particularly hyped and don't have a dog in the fight. I'll buy it eventually but didn't plan on getting it on launch. Rebuilding PC this fall and honestly, waiting a year post release of any console seems to be a brilliant approach.

Good to see Horizon and Demon's Souls. Other games were underwhelming for my tastes. RE8, yes, but that won't be an exclusive. The only thing that seemed "special" to me was Ratchet, with the quick loading.

Good showing but I'm not particularly wowed.

Not bad overall but to be honest I wasn't too impressed with the games they showed. I thought they were gonna go all in on the ps5 power but they really didn't. Looking forward to the Spiderman Miles game though!

Ratchet and Clank , Horizon, Kena, and Little Devil Inside was top show for me. Looked even better the second time around in 4k.

Not a bad showing by Sony. The console is a little silly looking (what is the purpose of the plastic tabs that stick out from it, besides trying to make it look "gamer"?) and I'm disappointed they didn't reveal the price. Here's hoping that the "digital edition" console is $100 cheaper.

They said they were committed to helping people transition between generations - but what does that mean exactly? I wish they would plainly spell out their plans for backwards compatibility on the system as I still have several questions.

My favorite game they showed was the new Ratchet and Clank although it looked pretty B tier. I enjoyed the last game well enough. A few other great games shown, but a lot of them will be on Xbox / PC which I'm planning to use predominantly.

With most stuff shown not even coming out until 2021, I think I'll probably stick to my original plan or waiting 6-8 months before buying one.

Ok Ratchet and Horizon now with "4K" on Youtube do look quite impressive.

I think another piece of info I am missing is performance. If a majority of these games are going to be 60fps (which I doubt) I'd be more impressed.

Final thoughts:

1, Always have separate shows. One for First Party and Hardware reveals and another for 3rd Party partners.

2, I might be biased but I really love how the XBOX shows have a voiceover saying "WORLD PREMIERE" or "XBOX EXCLUSIVE". The transitions were a little boring and all over the place this show.

just my 2 cents haha

Interesting, watching that Astro's Playroom says it comes pre-loaded on the PS5, I guess its their showcase for the controller's features.

All those new game thread titles need to be edited to show if they're also for PC and/or other systems like much of it was. Gematsu has edited its news titles to reflect that so maybe a mod can use that as a guide, though I dunno if it's fixed for all of them.

so what do you think the first party release schedule will be like? only Spiderman is confirmed for this holiday from what i can remember. no release dates for anything else. you think it will just be that?

i think perhaps they'll want one of the family freindly games to be ready, can't see Insomniac having two games at launch. So maybe Soiderman, Sackboy and Returnal? that would be a decent mix. Then perhaps Ratchet and Demon Souls first half of 2021 anf GT7 and Horizon Forbidden West holiday 2021?

R&C 50 seconds in is all gameplay - if you look at the hzd2 video it has game play interspersed with video footage.

Man its impossible to please some people..

It was literally an hour and a bit of just games to cater to all audiences...

I think they thought its helps make the shape of a V.

I hate it.

To be honest... I think for me maybe it was a lack of new AAA IP from Sony that stood out to me. Sequels in some fashion or another was the underlying tone of all the bigger games shown especially 1st party.

I was talking about Horizon 2. Should have made that more clear.

It's actually easy to understand, you just have to know who the posters are saying the event was underwhelming. So don't worry about it. The show was blowout, easily miles better than what their favorite console showed, it's not even a competition. :messenger_winking:

It's a recurring theme for PS studios tho, they usually release a sequel first and then think about a new IP around mid gen. It's easier to build on ideas that already exist and launch in the launch window than to start from the beginning. I don't think it's bad or underwhelming though - there's still plenty of third party or "launching on ps5 first" kind of titles to play as well.
